Of course a ferry from ijmuiden to new castle (and back) is not your best rated hotel. Cabins to sleep are small but ok. Depends on your willingness to pay premium. Our bunker was really hot on the way over. Airco did not work.
Wouldn't worry about the shops, casino or entertainment. Catching up at the bar is fine between friends.

Seven seas restaurant is surpringly good for such a mass restaurant serving 700-800 people in just hours. All sorts of small specialties and fresh fruits by the dozen. I was pleasantly surprised.

Trip over and back was fine. You need to take your time a bit. Onboarding and offloading is slow. Really takes 1500 until 1000 the next day.

Personell in general is friendly.

Decided to take the ferry from Dunkirk to Dover per some good advice from friends. Getting in the ferry at Dunkirk was easy since we got there very early but was not packed at time of boarding. The waiting lounge reminded me of a Greyhound bus terminal. Was expected. On the ferry, it was not very full. Had the food on board and it was average and pretty overpriced for what we got. On the return trip, we caught a lot of teenagers and kids and that was crazy. Getting through port security was easy as well and got to where we needed to go. Initially on their website, tickets were going to be nearly 250 euro but I found a deal on another site for only 50 euro at the same moment. Booked and worked out well. I would have been extremely upset it I would have gone for booking through their site.

Whole trip ran like clockwork, food was brilliant (I pay up front before I left it was much better value) Cabin was clean and comfy.
Would go again at the drop of a hat

the staff were friendly and willing to help, i found that it was quite expensive on board. the meals were of a good standard , however a bit expensive also, especially if you hadnt booked them previous to boarding. full of stag and hen nights which meant it was a bit noisey but apart from that it was a good trip and the bus service into amsterdam was well organised. would probabley go again but have a stay over in amsterdam..

We travelled from Newcastle to Amsterdam and was a lot to do there. A few places to get something to eat, a few pubs, casino, cinema etc. Good thing was that they have a wee play area for kids. Our son was really happy after long hours in the car. We also got souch a great breakfast. If you're on this ferry you just cant miss it! Lovely fresh food, so many to choose from, and all u can eat buffet. Also staff is polite and helpfull. There was cabin with quite comfortable bed, and bathroom with shower. Only bad thing was noise at night. We got lower deck's cabin. All night we could hear door's from other cabins, something like an alarm too. Really noisy. Without sleeping pills we probably couldnt sleep. So good advice: book higher cabin and enjoy :)
