The shields ferry is a excellent way to cross the river either traveling from North Shields or from South Shields

Take a trip across the Tyne in either direction, enjoy the pubs and come home. Its not the SS Northumbria, but quieter.

You only realise just how good it is when its not running. It is for pedestrians only and takes only 5 mins. Without it pedestrians would have to tak a train journey which takes over an hour. This is not an attraction, it is a working ferry service.
