Santa's Hotel Tunturi
Ranked #3 of 6 Hotels in Saariselka

A childhood dream to see the real Santa and it was just perfect. 2 grandparents, 4 grandchildren - aged from 4 - 9 years including 2 from Australia - and 4 parents shared the experience of Lapland in early December. The trip was booked through Esprit and we stayed in the Gielas wing of the Tunturi hotel in Saariselka. The room was warm & comfortable and included a sauna and a drying cabinet for outdoor gear. I was most impressed with Esprit's organisation of the 3 night package which was efficient, friendly and worked like a well-oiled machine. Plenty of snow activities which were never over-crowded and no queuing and the husky sledding was awesome. The skidoo ride through the forest to find Santa, including naughty elves, was pure magic. Saariselka is quiet, remote & completely un-commercialised with an excellent toboggan run nearby. I would have no hesitation in recommending Esprit and the Tunturi for that once-in-a-lifetime journey into Santa's homeland.

Stayed here on a First Choice holiday. Had a room with own sauna & kitchenette. It was well worth the slight extra cost. Went half board as expected Lapland to be very expensive. The food was very good. They had a lot of choice considering they are at the end of the earth. The hotel was clean, very warm and cozy. The staff were really nice. It's not a place for night life, the old biddies waltzing every night in the bar may not agree with me. We were there as a couple on essentially a child's holiday to see Santa. I have to say it is 1 of the best holidays I have been on & I have been 2 all 6 continents. The elves made the trip, Santas village was incredible, there is do much to do, some of it expensive some of it not so. The sledging is free & the best fun. We did see the Northern "Clouds" it was to thick to see them clearly but the changing clouds to green & orange were still amazing. The only downside id it is very dark at this time if year, apparently the best time to go is March, snowy & sunny. I will definitely check it out again

Room Tip: Pay extra for your own sauna

Stayed there in December on a Santa Holiday with Esprit. Had an apartment with private sauna, kitchen etc. Couldn't fault it. Meals in main block were nice, especially the breakfasts and the starters for the dinners. I don't hesitate to recommend the hotel and Esprit were fantastic if you are thinking of a Santa break.

Room Tip: Pay extra for an apartment, it's worth it.

We stayed in an upgraded room type in the Tunturi hotel (it wasn't the Gielas but still in a deperate block from the main building). The room initially appeared to be in the basement but was actually ground floor as the building was on a slope. This was fantastic as we could just walk out right onto the cross country ski trail. The view was of snow covered pine trees for as far as the eye could see. It was truly idyllic and so peaceful. We spent two of our evenings lying out in the snow with rum and coke looking up at the stars!

The room was spacious, clean and warm. It was basic but had what we needed. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of extra pillows and warm duvets. The bathroom was a wet room so water went all over but it was so warm that everything dried very quickly and there was a squidgy wiper which worked a treat. The private sauna was very relaxing after a day spent outside in the cold and the water pressure on the shower was lovely. The kitchen area was also fine (2 of everything). Only things I missed was a toaster and kettle. I couldn't figure out how the work the water heater thing so I just used a pan of water on the hob for hot drinks. I made toast under the grill in the oven - no problem.

We didn't have any meals at the hotel but the breakfasts were perfectly adequate. There was a choice of cofee, teas and juices. Ham, salami and cheese. Breads (with toasters). Cereals (including bran flakes, cornflakes, rice crispies). Fruit and youghurt. Porridge. Cold boiled eggs (warm if you got there as soon as they were put out) Scrambled eggs and something I couldn't recognise. Also there was watermelon, tomato and cucumber (?!)

Hotel was well located on the edge of Saariselka. Saariselka is mainly build along one main road and to walk to the other side it took 10-15 mins. It was very close to the toboggan run and cross country ski trails and was very close to several activity booking places too. About 10 mins to the supermarket.

The hotel was really pleasant, clean and new with a private sauna and balcony. Lovely and definitely worth the premium from the regular Tunturi Hotel.

Food isn't brilliant but then that's common for everywhere in Lapland.

Good location right in the middle of everything, plenty to recommend it.

We arrived quite late both nights in this hotel. We informed the reception and they gave us our room key of our bedroom apartment which was 100m away from the main hotel complex. The apartment had a separate twin room and was quite warm, the bathroom was ok and clean.
The second day, after a full breakfast we reached North Cape and we came back to Tunturi to sleep..all together 1000 km in one day!

My husband, 5 year old son and I stayed on the 4th Dec 2011 for 2 nights. What a wonderful hotel and location and so pleased that we chose it over the Holiday Club Hotel.
The hotel it's self seems really new compared to the others around. The rooms were a lovely size complete with tea/coffee making facilities, a superb sauna, comfy beds and a balcony, toilet, bath and shower. The rooms had snow suit dryers which we also used to warm up our snow suits in the morning before we went out.
The staff were very helpful and the breakfasts were superb with lots of choice to suit everyone. There are many toboggans which you can use through all of the resort and sledge/ski slope near by. Our main evening meal was served upstairs at a building less than a minutes walk away...
The food served at the evening meal was quite traditional (though I think thats part of the holiday experience) bar snacks and more english looking food can be purchased from the the bar area on the ground floor.

We actually booked the whole of our trip through Espril - london gatwick to Ivalo finland, our transfer time was about 30 minutes. We tried out reindeer and husky rides and had the best time of our lives. We've spent many years holidaying to hot destinations, this holiday has converted us and we can't wait to go back to Tunturi again.
