Santa's Hotel Tunturi

This was our second time to Lapland with Santa's Lapland. The first time we stayed in the Riekonlina and loved the hotel. This time we chose the Tunturi hotel - specifically the Gaelias wing.
The rooms in this wing are just gorgeous. Gorgeous building, lovely views, very large rooms which are brand new with your own private sauna. Perfect for a glass of wine in when your child has fallen asleep. Can not fault the rooms in this wing - and can not fault this wing at all.
After having dinner at the main the main Tunturi building however is not nice and I was glad we were not staying there. It was down trodden and pretty grim. We didn't like the Christmas meal here - it was too big and loud and like a Butlin's camp. The Christmas meal at Reikonlina was much better - small and intimate and felt more Christmassy.
The main Tunturi building is a 2 minute walk from they Gaelias and we didn't find this a problem. Breakfast was served in the Gaelias wing and was lovely - very calm and reserved and certainly more upmarket than the main Tunturi building.
If you are unsure where to book for your Lapland trip my choice would be the Gaelias wing and then the Reikonlina - stay away from the main Tunturi building.

We stayed in one of the older buildings (Näätä) during our winter holiday. The room was basic and gave a "back to the 80's" feeling with all that pine furniture but that also made it feel more like a cottage than a hotel room. The location of the Näätä building was excellent, right next to the skiing tracks and other routes. It was only about 100 metres from the main building and breakfast room. Also the hotel itself has a great location being close to both the village centre and the fell with the toboggan run.

We had one big problem and that was the shower. There was not enough warm water even for a quick shower, no matter if we tried in the morning, afternoon or evening. Another issue was when our bus didn't show up and we got absolutely no help from the reception - I would have expected at least information about alternate services, such as taxi or another bus. This is why we will choose another hotel for our next visit.

Room Tip: If you want to save some money, the older rooms are of good value - just check they have fixed the h...

Hotel area is large, rooms are many different houses. My basic room was Ahma house. It was basic and little oldish, but very clean. Some better rooms have own sauna, but there is also couple common saunas. Ski tracks start front of the hotel and ski bus stop also the hotel. But you can easily walk skilifts, it's only 1km. Breakfast is basic level scandinavian style buffee. I think that the hotel is quite good price quality.

My standard room looks exactly like the Hotel picture on TA. Quite big, sofa, table, armchair, fridge, water kettle for coffee/tea/hot chocolate. Bathroom has enclosed shower and slightly bad smell. The room is cleaned only every other day.Ski storage, clothes dryer and Sauna is available downstairs. Restaurants and breakfast in main building. Maybe 5 min walk. This hotel has a dance band playing every night during the season, and additional artists during high season.Cross country skiing and hiking tracks start here. Airport and ski buses stop outside the main entrance.

We stayed in Gielas and had a lovely room, big bathroom with sauna, drier. We were on the package, breakfast was good, the AI dinner was adequate. Location was very good (walking distance everywhere). Ample of activities in Saariselka, ski slopes very good, toboggan run long and enjoyable (wear goggles). We can recommend joiku-kotsamo safaris (excellent trip to joikun kota & fells on snowmobiles, Lappish lunch) and Husky & Co for the Husky Safaris. Lapland Safaris are popular and offer good choice of excursions, however, groups can be large with mixed skill level at driving snowmobiles, so be prepared for slow trips and waiting. We had 2 trips and the Heart of Nature with Janne and Kimmo was great. But the hunt for the Aurora can be hit or miss. Finnish Lapland is great fun!

We have just visited Saariselkä 5th time and Santa's 2nd time and will return next year! I would recommend superior room at Gielas (100 meters from main building). The rooms are spacious and silent and the beds are comfortable and wide. There's both sauna and tub at tidy bath room. This time we stayed there for 3 nights the buffet dinner was included in addition to great breakfast. First dinner was disappointment with tasteless fish but other two night's dinners were very fine. The location of hotel is handy for cross country skiing. 50 meters to ski rental and 100 meters to ski tracks. The last but not the least; the staff were all very polite, thank you!

The room is a bit old, especially the toilet which needs some upgraded. No slippers is provided. No tissue. I feel like i am staying in a hostel. Surronding environment is nice. Staff not friendly. Not familiar with the bus schedule and told us the wrong time which keep us waiting until we asked again after waiting for like half an hour without any apology. The breakfast buffet provided the basic food, dont expect much.
