we stayed here three nights as part of our inghams tour, the hotel has wonderful views lovely staff and fantastic food. This more than compensates for the tired décor, very quiet village and not a lot to do once you have been on the trips available but a great place to relax and unwind.

This hotel was much worse than we expected. The only positives were the view and the opportunity at breakfast to make a packed lunch. The hotel is extremely worn with dirty carpets and windows, broken glass, faulty electrics and plumbing, tired public rooms and mediocre food. The attitude of the staff and the Inghams rep indicated that they had heard all the complaints many times before. The hotel business seems to rely on the many coach parties using it as part of a tour. The facilities offered at the sister hotel Brakanes were equally poor = tiny pool and broken equipment.

We stayed here for three nights of part of inghams highlights of Norway tour.
The hotel was very quiet but we were treat like royalty. We had the best tables reserved for us in the restaurant and there was a good choice of food, a bonus was been able to pack up a lunch box each day from the breakfast Buffett.
The view from the balcony was one we will always remember.
As previously mentioned the bathrooms do need up dating but we would certainly recommend this hotel especially for the warm and friendly welcome

Spent 2 nights here, moved from another hotel due to building work. The location is quite central which was an advantage. The room was comfortable and clean, a bit short of storage and the bathroom could do with a face lift. Fantastic view of the fjord.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
When we arrived there was no restaurant available that night and we chose not to eat at the sister hotel but at the cafe on the sea front under the tourist information.
The hotel was very quiet on our first night and then a coach party arrived. They came late and left early.
A good buffet was available for breakfast

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the fjord

My husband and I booked a trip to the Ulvik Hotel for our honeymoon and had a wonderful stay. Our flight had been delayed on consequently we didnt arrive at the hotel until after the evening meal had finished, however the manager George had plated us up a fine supper and generously (especially since this is Norway) offered my husband and I a complimentary alcoholic drink to go with our meal.

All of the staff in the hotel were exceptionally helpful, particually the manager, and all spoke good English. The meals were typically Norwegian with lots of fish and hot meat dishes and a variety of vegetables, there was plenty to keep you going.

The hotel itself is dated but we werent bothered by this, everything worked as it was supposed to and when your balcony looks onto the Ulvik Fjord, who cares if your bathroom is from the 70's?

The area of Ulvik is absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend the tours of the local cider farms and visiting the tourist information for a free walking map of the area. It doesnt matter where you walk to, the views are breath taking from every view point. Play giant chess at the fjordside by the Brakanes, do the Norway in a Nutshell tour, visit the glacier at Finse and explore Ulvik - if you love the outdoors you wont be disappointed

Spent 2 nights here located on the stunning Hardangerfjord - the scenery is all there is (and all you should want) in the small hamlet of Ulvik.
Very friendly, English-speaking staff.
Old building, decent rooms, but the lift is noisy - time for a new one (or two).
Lovely buffet breakfast, and buffet dinner is typically Norway-expensive, but offers delicious local food.

Room Tip: Ask for one on the fjord side, as far from the lift as possible.

If you want to stay the night in Ulvik during your trip in the fjord, this hotel may be the great place to sleep one night.
Indeed, most of the rooms have a view on the fjord which is beautiful especially at night !!! Concerning the staff, everyone is always happy to help and helpful. We decided not to eat at the hotel restaurant for the evening but we had our breakfast there. It was as always in Norway a great european one, with all kind of food.

Now, the most important : the room. It is unfortunatly a little bit old hotel (as the elevator!) so the decoration is not really modern but it is a room with a TV, a double window with a balcony so it is really ok. The negative point concerns the bathroom... Indeed, the brown color renders it so dark and it is not a pleasure to take a bath. But, for 1 or 2 nights it is ok.

So : staff very friendly and happy to help, good food, good location, we only hope that the decoration will be modified!
