We spent an amazing week at Chalet Martin over Christmas. Merlin, his family and the other staff were so welcoming and took wonderful care of us the whole time. Ski hire was cheap, kitchen and other facilities were all excellent. Definitely recommend staying here!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Chalet Martin. We were very warmly welcomed by Merlin and we felt so at home immediately with the relaxed atmosphere and amazing views of the Swiss Mountains! Our baggage didn't arrive on our flight and we cannot thank Merlin enough for his help in locating our luggage and having it returned, and lending us a few things to help get us by in the mean time. His local knowledge is so helpful, we enjoyed some amazing hiking in one of the most beautiful places in the world, thanks to Merlin's recommendations. The genuine care and consideration for guests is truly appreciated and some of the best hospitality we received anywhere in Europe. It's a short but beautiful tram ride to the Chalet We only wished we could stay much longer, but we will be back!

Room Tip: There are dorm and double rooms. Just depends on your budget. All rooms were clean and warm, with great views.

Beautiful Views, Comfortable room, Merlin and Gemma are awesome hosts, everyone staying in the Chalet was welcoming and polite. Merlin and Gemma showed us a wonderfully scenic hike, told us about things to do nearby and made sure we were comfortable and happy. Can't wait to stay here again, really chill feel, plenty to do and great company to be enjoyed.

Swiss Alps Retreat, if traveling by car is bloody hard to find at first, but once finding a place and asking the staff where the hell you can park your car, then it's time to chill out.

This hostel is not bad. Its in a lovely little village high up in the mountains on the main road between Villars and Bex, just east of the lake of Geneva.

The staff are very friendly (not Swiss, they were American I think) and the building is a lovely little chalet with outstanding views of the mountains just east of Gyron.

You can use the kitchen facilites (as long as you follow the house rules), and the beds are very comfortable in traditional style swiss chalet rooms. The only problem is, downstairs you can play music, etc, until 11pm, and after that it's lights out. Not a problem for me having light;s out, but if you want an early night, forget it as the noise goes right through the floorboards and will keep you awake! Doh!

Just remember to take your shoes off!

Room Tip: Get a private room with a view from the front of the building overlooking the resort and mountains

ChaletMartin, Manager at Chalet Martin, responded to this reviewResponded 16 November 2013

Thanks for taking the time to review; we are great full for all feedback. I’m sorry you found us difficult to find, there are signs on the road directing pedestrians our way. Access to Chalet Martin is only by foot and this can sometimes be confusing ,however we are normally at the top of the hill waving down or directing people by phone as best we can (within office hours). Chalet Martin doesn't have parking of its own but the nearby Village of Gryon or Barboleuse have plenty of public parking spots.
With regard to noise we try to be considerate to everyone and encourage guests to be the same as we are an traditional Swiss Chalet sound travels, but sleep is something myself and particularly my wife take very seriously. Priority with always be given to those trying to get some shut eye.
Once again thank you for your feedback it has been helpful to us and hopefully to other guest who are thinking of staying at Chalet Martin.

Merlin and his family truly know how to accommodate their guests. Located in the small, but beautiful town of Gryon, this Chalet overlooks some of the best views Switzerland has to offer. A short tram ride takes you to any of the towns in the area, but there really is something special about staying here with Merlin. He is an avid outdoorsman, and knows the area extremely well. So whether you came here to hike, climb, bike, ski, walk, etc., he's got the best advice for you. He's also extremely inviting and giving-they invited me to go climbing here on my second day with them! Anyways, my time spent here in Gryon has been the best three days I have had in my entire Euro trip. Because of this, I cannot wait for an opportunity to come back and ski in the winter. This is a must stay for anyone planning on travelling to Switzerland.

Room Tip: The dorms are a great experience and give you excellent views of the Swiss Alps.
