“A lively hotel with plenty to do in the middle of Protaras”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

Following on from our first week in the Silver Sands Beach Hotel, Protaras, the management offered us an upgrade to the Odessa, which was 4 star and an All Inclusive package.

At first we were reluctant, as Silver Sandsis a great hotel.

However, we had a quick look around, asked to see the room and decided - why not!

The transfer from Silver Sands to Odessa was straight forward and within an hour we were in our new room.

Reception area is great, wide space with plenty of seats and air conditioned with the Royal Marine Bar in the corner. Reception Team very friendly.

Room - very modern and spacious, with a great view over the sea and pool area.
Ensuite modern and spacious Very well maintained throughout the week.

Pool / Beach - great pool area and sun loungers everywhere - the only negataive versus Silver Salnds Beach hotel is that with Silver Sands, you can literally fall out of bed and you are on the beach. With Odessa Beach, the hotel is not located on the beach, you have to walk for a few minutes to get there. Also there is building work being undertaken at the beach end of the grounds - this is screened off. Finally, due to the shape and position of hotel the pool area gets shaded quite early which is very refreshing after a day in the hot sun - however, some people just walked around the garden to the next hotel, which is part of the same group and used their pool in the evening.

Food - we were all inclusive and you couldn't complain.
Fantastic choice of hot & cold for breakfast, tea coffee etc
Omlettes and waffles.

From 10 to 12 each morning was a buffet snack bar - for those who missed breakfast or just wanted a wee snack.

From 12 to 2.30 was lunch, with a great choice of soups, protein, vegetables and salads with vegetarian options.

From 3 to 5 was the buffet snack bar again - with pizza, pittas, chips, chicken wings etc

Icecream FOC all day

From 6.45 to 9.30 was dinner - they request no shorts or vest tops - although some just ignored this. You were escorted to your seat, big white leather chairs in the restuarant - the only meal served in this room. Choice was excellent for both adults and kids, and service was superb.

Pool Bar - apart from running out of some all in drinks on a couple of occassions, the bar was great and Josef was a great guy in the bar.

Entertainment - very varied and great activities throughout the day into the night.
We were having bingo and a quiz one night and some of the residents complained about the noise from the bar - this just made the noise louder!

Towels are free - however we had issues getting towels at start and had to buy 2 to get us going - once I raised this it was sorted.

At night, we could just sit on balcony late on and listen to the buzz of Protara nite life or close the door, turn up air con and watch tele!

Overall - great hotel if you are looking for a lively spot to stay, with great All Inclusive Package.

Personally I preferred the ambiance of the Silver Sands Beach Hotel, which was quieter but had the night life minutes away if required. However Odessa was a super hotel too, and many thanks to them.

Only one point of concern to raise - I don't know if I am the only one who is tired of putting up with these 4-6 family sized groups who holiday together and have a territorial claim over pool, bar, beds etc. It is great to see every holiday together and having fun, but what about some consideration for the rest of us. One morning I watched a lady come down at 6am and claim approx 15 beds with towels. One alcove in the pool became a pool bar with one group of 12 guys and girls there drinking from breakfast to supper. One group of guys decided to play football and volleyball in the pool as if they were in Wembley - and soon commanded over 1/3 of the pool for themselves - ( I just ignored it and kept swimming and let them know what I thought when the ball hit me and my wife several times). If management could address this, that would change the whole atmosphere arounf this hotel.

Room Tip: All inclusive is good option at this hotel - some room over the bar / entertainment areas could be n...

This was my 10th visit to the "Odessa Beach Hotel" over the years and it is the only hotel I would choose to stay at ! When you first arrive you are greated by friendly saff at Reception and are soon given the key/card to your room. The bedrooms are clean and bright and the bathroom is also clean with plenty of hot water and towels are changed frequently. The staff in the Resturants are very friendly and over the years you meet up with some of the same staff who always remember you from your past stay at the hotel and you then know you are amongst friends! There are plenty of sunbeds and umbrella also towels provided by the hotel for use around the swimming pool!

We have just returned from really marvelous holidays which we have spent in Odessa, Protaras. Not so many hotels which excite a desire to come back again and again. We may mark Odessa like such a wonderful hotel! The staff is very nice, extremely attentive and friendly, beautiful beach, excellent food with lots of delicious dishes and fruits! All of these things made us feel very welcome. There were interesting programs in the evening time, even rather professional performances. Grand resort!

Stayed here 8th to 22nd July 2012 We had a lovely time. All staff were friendly and helpful. Im a vegetarian and had no problem with food. Ample sunbeds and towels provided by the hotel. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. There was construction work between the hotel and beach but this did not disrupt our holiday. Great location We would be more than happy to stay at this hotel again.

Like most comments about this hotel I agree a ideal choice for value and position building work not an issue but will be different once completed effect sea views. Me the wife and 9 yr old child stayed 2 weeks and ate in hotel 10 nights half board food was ok although must say the service by all but one spiky haired waiter was v poor in no manners no smiles made it feel like we had to please them when they should be the ones making the service right. Bar staff with the exception of the young man Joseph exactly the same shocking they made u stand around and wait whilst chatting away then poured you a pint of larger half full glass which they then expected me to pay for as I was half board. The towel change woman again wants to realise what customer service is all about never smiled said thank you again like most staff with just a few exception as I mention v poor ( bell boy very good) reception shocking upon checking in at 1 in morning guy on reception was on phone. For 10 mins never even looked at the 20 guests wanting to check No kids club due to entertaintment team changes but when we did stay in for the night entertainment Jess Dane & Hannah made it fun although must say the lots of guest never used the enter taint hotel at night. Stayed on 4th floor sea view room payed extra wish I hadn't cause most rooms have a sea view anyway free of charge.
Overall good value hotel for money food ok drinks awful would defo not get monies worth from fully inclusive board option but overall the worst thing was the service and how they never smiled and made you feel welcomed especially in dinner hall wish I had got the guys name who seemed to be supervising the dinning hall and bar as he was the worst of all.
Oh and cleaning of room got clean towels most days but only changed covers on bed on day 12 of holday.
Would I go back probably not only because of the service stayed at silver sands b& b last year wish I had done this year and melini across road from silver sands very good all round value.

We stayed at this hotel 8th July – 22nd July – 12 adults and 1 child.
As always, this review is based on my (actually 9 of our 13 strong party) opinion and is only written to help those of you are even contemplating booking this hotel for your annual holiday that you have worked hard and saved up for over the last 12 months. In my opinion I would spend my money elsewhere if I were you!!
This was not my first All Inclusive holiday I have been to many others such as Lanzarote, Egypt and Jamaica. However, this was our 8th time to Cyprus 7th time to Protaras so you can tell that we love the place, however, would never go back to the Odessa again for the following reasons:-
Food & Drink
Breakfast – very poor quality food – watery orange/fruit flavoured cordial and stale bread YUM!
Lunch – very poor quality food most of which is left overs from the evening before re-heated (if you are lucky, most things are lukewarm and the chips were only half cooked most days)
Dinner – evening meals were okay but very bland and repetitive, not a spice of herb in sight. You can always find something to eat and that is okay if you want to “just make do”.
Drinks – All fizzy drinks were flat most of the time. They were constantly running out of ice (especially in the bar in the lobby as they had to keep going downstairs to fill up a bucket with ice) The temperature was in the 90s most of the time we were there and flat fizzy drinks with no ice is NOT good!! A few members of our party drank vodka and found this to be okay during the first week however, in the second week the vodka was nasty and one our party discovered a member of staff pouring a bottle with a different label into a vodka bottle.
Cleanliness
The rooms were cleaned every day and we received clean towels so I can`t complain about that. However, the linen on the beds was not changed whilst we were there. The general cleanliness of the main areas of the hotel were poor though and everywhere just seemed a bit grubby. The hotel toilets on the ground floor (which are the only toilets inside the hotel) were not very clean and smelled of cat pee all the time. The pool toilets were cleaner, however, electricity was not working for a couple of days so you had to pee in the dark!! Also one evening whilst in the dining room a large number of people wished to be seated on the table next to us, the staff pulled the table out away from the wall to accommodate them, only to reveal mouldy food on the floor and mould on the carpet and walls. We were absolutely astounded when the staff did not even attempt to move this and simply sat the people at the table. A member of our party did report this to the Rep who said “she would look into it”. We were not seated again in that area of the restaurant as most of our party ate outside the hotel after that.
Pool & Surrounding Area
The pool area was generally okay, although there were times when we noticed that the pool had not been cleaned as you could see grease floating on the surface at 8 a.m. When we first arrived, most of the sun beds were broken and very worn, however some of these were replaced during our stay as were the umbrellas which were very old and tired looking.
Staff and Service
We found most of the staff in the hotel to be pleasant enough, although none of them seemed very happy and apparently had all been on strike the two weeks previous to our stay.
In conclusion, this hotel in my opinion is bearly a 3 star and certainly not a 4 star. We were told by a lady taxi driver on a trip to Ayia Napa that the 5 years ago the Odessa was the best hotel in Protaras, however, it is now considered poor quality as are all Tsokkos hotels so beware!! Please bear in mind that for another couple of hundred pounds you could go to the carribean where they know how to do All Inclusive.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Odessa for a week and have just returned, we had a lovely holiday and thouroughly enjoyed our stay at the Odessa.

The hotel is in a great location 150 yrds from the main stirp with the bars, clubs, shops and restaurants. The beach is 1min walk from the hotel (you can walk straight from the pool area) it is a lovely beach with restaraunts/cafe's along the sea front, plently of water sports and boat trips to enjoy.

We went to the water park in Aiya Napa which was 33 euros, it was ok and we had a really good day there but having previously been to other water parks in our opinion it wasn't as good.

The room we were in was facing the strip, I have read other people's comments complaining about the noise level coming from the bars/clubs, considering we were 150yrds from them we did not hear anything and slept so well (beds were VERY comfy!). The rooms were very clean and bathrooms spotless. Air conditioning was really good and room was like a fridge, which was nice as it was 40 most days.

We liked the food, it varied each night with a different selction to choose from. However much people say they disliked the entertainment, we really enjoyed it, I don't know what some people think hotel entertainment is going to be like but it's a bit of fun and the staff work hard to entertain guests throughout the day. (well one member of the entertainment team worked hard....)

Jess was in charge of the entertainment team and she made us feel so welcome, she got us involved in the pool activities each day and we had loads of fun, she was so enthusiastic and we could see she worked very hard, she is such a lovely girl and we hope to stay in touch with her. It's a shame she wasn't supported by Hannah, Dane and Tom in the way she should be, they gave us the impression that they 'couldn't be bothered' and we found Hannah extremley rude, it was obvious that she did not like Jess and we over heard her talking about her to guests at the hotel, which was hugely unprofessional.

The building work which people are talking about is nothing to panic about, the builders only worked for 1 or 2 hours a day, some days not atal. The noise level was nothing mayjor and this did not ruin or affect our holiday in any way.

If you are all inclusive then just be aware you will need to buy bottled water as the water they will give you is from the tap, the first 2 days we were there we were drinking lots of it, we soon realised when one of us felt ill. (Shop is 1min away on the strip & you can get 6 1.5 letre bottles for 3 eouros.

There is a hair dryer in each room (i know this is something i always want to make sure they have) and the rooms have english plugs so no need for adpapter plugs!

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would happily go back there to stay again.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a pool/sea veiw room if you want a nice veiw. However the rooms which were facing the...
