Myself, husband & our 3 and ½ year old son stayed for a week at the Brilliant in October 2013.
We had room 232 which had a slightly larger bedroom because it was on the curve of the building & got the sun on the balcony in the late afternoon. The apartment was nice, cleaned well & sufficient towel & bedding changes. The aircon was good & no extra cost. The charge for the safe is €15 per week & it’s a €20 deposit for the TV remote (we didn’t bother as there weren’t any good English channels anyway). As other people have said an oven would have been nice but other than that there was enough to allow you to prepare breakfast & lunch. One thing to note is that there isn’t a lock on the bedroom window so be very careful if you have small children! We did make a note of this on the hotel’s survey form.
The kids club was brilliant! Our son is used to Nursery & Pre-School and settled straight in. The 2 girls, Holly & Eve, were fantastic!! I liked the fact that it was run to English standards – I wanted to stay the first time our son went, just to check he was ok, but he didn’t want me to. It would have been ok for me to do this though, Holly & Eve said they were happy for me to stay. Anyone who asks our son what his favourite part of the holiday was he always says “kids club”! He went on 4 days, just 1 session per day – they hold 2 sessions per day & have 2 days off. There are also extra sessions on some evenings (a couple you need to pay for) which were a good idea and the older kids loved them. He went to the infamous Chocolate Party which looked great fun if not very messy!
The pool areas were tidy & clean & it was a shame that the pools were a bit too cold to have a proper swim in – although it didn’t seem to bother older children. The kids pool was pretty big & shallow so just right for the little ones & it had a couple of water features that came on every now & again (I think you may have needed to ask for them as they came on randomly). We found it easy to get sun beds so no need to get up early & there were quite a few untaken all day.
All the staff were really friendly & a couple of them were English.
The 2 Thomson reps were lovely too & the Welcome meeting was very informative.
We only had lunch once at the pool bar & it was nice. We used to buy our food from Lidl & have breakfast & lunch in the apartment – sadly the balcony was too small for the 3 of us to sit together.
We didn’t watch any of the evening entertainment so can’t comment but our room was quiet, overlooking the tennis courts. However on 1 night they had a singer & she was very loud – you could clearly hear the songs whilst we were in the apartment but one night out of seven isn’t bad. We could still get to sleep which was the main thing.
The resort of Protaras was really nice. Some lovely restaurants + Pizza Hut & McDonalds which were handy for us as we have a very fussy eater! The restaurants had free wifi which was handy for checking e-mails etc.
The beach was well kept & Fig Tree Bay was lovely – the sea looked like the Caribbean. Also have to add that the toilet facilities at Fig Tree Bay (in the car park at the top) were fantastic – the cleanest I have ever seen!!
We recommend this holiday to families especially as the facilities were great. There were couples without children & hopefully they had a nice time – they mainly seemed to sunbathe on the grassy area at the back of the pool where they could get away from the children around the pool and have peace – in fact we used to sit there too towards the end of the holiday
We will definitely go back – I am already checking out prices for May! It ticked all the boxes for us & most importantly our son thinks it’s brilliant!!
