“Great hotel”
Reviewed 25 October 2013

Myself, husband & our 3 and ½ year old son stayed for a week at the Brilliant in October 2013.

We had room 232 which had a slightly larger bedroom because it was on the curve of the building & got the sun on the balcony in the late afternoon. The apartment was nice, cleaned well & sufficient towel & bedding changes. The aircon was good & no extra cost. The charge for the safe is €15 per week & it’s a €20 deposit for the TV remote (we didn’t bother as there weren’t any good English channels anyway). As other people have said an oven would have been nice but other than that there was enough to allow you to prepare breakfast & lunch. One thing to note is that there isn’t a lock on the bedroom window so be very careful if you have small children! We did make a note of this on the hotel’s survey form.

The kids club was brilliant! Our son is used to Nursery & Pre-School and settled straight in. The 2 girls, Holly & Eve, were fantastic!! I liked the fact that it was run to English standards – I wanted to stay the first time our son went, just to check he was ok, but he didn’t want me to. It would have been ok for me to do this though, Holly & Eve said they were happy for me to stay. Anyone who asks our son what his favourite part of the holiday was he always says “kids club”! He went on 4 days, just 1 session per day – they hold 2 sessions per day & have 2 days off. There are also extra sessions on some evenings (a couple you need to pay for) which were a good idea and the older kids loved them. He went to the infamous Chocolate Party which looked great fun if not very messy!

The pool areas were tidy & clean & it was a shame that the pools were a bit too cold to have a proper swim in – although it didn’t seem to bother older children. The kids pool was pretty big & shallow so just right for the little ones & it had a couple of water features that came on every now & again (I think you may have needed to ask for them as they came on randomly). We found it easy to get sun beds so no need to get up early & there were quite a few untaken all day.

All the staff were really friendly & a couple of them were English.

The 2 Thomson reps were lovely too & the Welcome meeting was very informative.

We only had lunch once at the pool bar & it was nice. We used to buy our food from Lidl & have breakfast & lunch in the apartment – sadly the balcony was too small for the 3 of us to sit together.

We didn’t watch any of the evening entertainment so can’t comment but our room was quiet, overlooking the tennis courts. However on 1 night they had a singer & she was very loud – you could clearly hear the songs whilst we were in the apartment but one night out of seven isn’t bad. We could still get to sleep which was the main thing.

The resort of Protaras was really nice. Some lovely restaurants + Pizza Hut & McDonalds which were handy for us as we have a very fussy eater! The restaurants had free wifi which was handy for checking e-mails etc.

The beach was well kept & Fig Tree Bay was lovely – the sea looked like the Caribbean. Also have to add that the toilet facilities at Fig Tree Bay (in the car park at the top) were fantastic – the cleanest I have ever seen!!

We recommend this holiday to families especially as the facilities were great. There were couples without children & hopefully they had a nice time – they mainly seemed to sunbathe on the grassy area at the back of the pool where they could get away from the children around the pool and have peace – in fact we used to sit there too towards the end of the holiday 

We will definitely go back – I am already checking out prices for May! It ticked all the boxes for us & most importantly our son thinks it’s brilliant!!

Overall this hotel was great. Rooms very modern and fully equipped kitchen was great. Aircon and towells changed so overall really good.

The pool area is spotless. A little park as well for the children to play.

Entertainment was on the negative side, there was only 2 acts during our weeks stay, one of which lasted 10mins.

Location is ideal, just off the main strip to Potaras and right next door to Lidl.

Also recomend Mr Cod restaurant (British fish and chips) on the main road of the hotel, about 200 yards right as you come out of the hotel entrance.

A must for families is the waterpark in Ayia Napa - be warned its pricey! but well worth it.

Would come back and recommend to families.

Im sure you will enjoy it as much as we did!

We stayed at the Brilliant again this year for two weeks.
As usual we found it to be clean and comfortable. Our room was cleaned about six times a week and we had no complaint about the standard.
The reception staff was very good – two names to mention were Lenia and Tracey but all were helpful and polite.
We used the restaurant a few times and the food was ok – the drink prices were reasonable.
There was entertainment a few nights but we did not watch it.
Overall the Brilliant was a place we could recommend.

We can not praise this hotel enough.Everything from the staff, the room and great and huge if not a tad cold swimming pool.
We had a 1 bedded apartment[ROOM 101] And was perfect. The room had a great kitchenette area, microwave fridge, hob.Everything you really need. Our apartment looked out to the pool and also to the sea.Our bedroom had a massive bed and enough room for our clothing.
There is a Lidl, which is reasonably priced,on the other side of the road.
The staff are so friendly and polite, the reception people are great and so helpful.
The hotel is a 5 min walk to the strip where a lot of the restaurants, bars & shops are and where fig tree bay is.
The Adama, Giorgios, and olympus are great restaurants and Ripples and cheers are lovely friendly bars.Waves is also good, apart from 1 very arrogant waiter,i believe his name is Oscar,he isn' cypriot,we believe from Eastern europe, and though it was ok to criticise people from London and say we are all racist ,rude and trouble makers.Put it this way,we did not go back there after that !
Anyway,if you want a great hotel and resort,TheBrilliant hotel s a must.

Room Tip: Rooms 101,201,301,24.134.234,334 are all great view 1 bedded rooms. And huge.

Brilliant apartments are in a good location for the main strip, rooms are very big and clean and are a good base. Beyond that we found that the apartments were just "OK". I have seen all the other reviews here and feel that I must have been in a different place. We met some lovely people while there and all were of a similar opinion. We only ate at the apartments twice, once at the BBQ night - this was really poor quality and really badly organised. The evening entertainment was very poor but largley due to the lack of atmosphere in the bar area, which was very brightly lit. I reallu felt for the singers, they faced a difficult job entertaining a very small uninterested crowd. We only saw the entertainment a couple of times each week but others told of similar experiences. The other time we ate at the apartments was at lunch time and just had sandwiches which were fine. I specifically asked not to be put on the main road or facing Lidl - as advised by previous holiday goers - when we arrived we were .... on the main raod facing Lidl, may be the Thomson reservation employee mis-heard! Every morning, unless you were up at 6.30/7.00 there were no subeds. People were quite agressive over "their" space at the pool. If you happened to beat a regular to a particular spot they let you know about it! All in all we did have a good time but I felt that the apartments and the resort were only mediocre and quite "Brits abroad" no disrespect to anyone else who had a great time here. I am pleased you did but I think that it is good to read slightly negaitve reviews as well so that you can make an informed choice. It was a quite an inexpensive holiday so I would say it was good value for money but don't expect too much. May be go out of season if possible. I couldn't tell you if Fig Tree bay was as lovely, as other say on here, because when we went it was sooo packed you couldn't even see the sand, wecould only just about make it to the waters edge through the overcrowed, beach where people were laying in between the sunbeds and right down to where the waves met the beach - there really was no room at all. Did find some lovely restaurants and ate at a few kebab places where the locals were, this food was lovely but mostly it was all just OK and not Brilliant!!!!

Room Tip: I would ask for a ground floor, pool view apartment, this may help to get a sunbed and they terrace...

Thirty of us have just returned from our first trip to Cyprus for our wedding and these hotel apartments can not be faulted!!
Absolutely superb! The most comfortable beds in the world and they are huge!!
Swimming pool is nice and big and whilst we were there the hotel was fully booked up yet we always had sunbeds!
Entertainment during the day and shows at night, set back one road from the main strip/promenade which you can easily short cut through a little road also Lidl and supermarket is next door. Reception staff were great, Breakfast standard english plus cereal etc. Really great holiday for us all will definitely be returning :) x

Room Tip: Room one to twenty four were all nice ground floor rooms with terraces around the pool.

Very clean, large apartments, huge bedroom with massive comfy bed. Kids bunks were a little small in the lounge area but we managed well.

Had room 23A ground floor best room in the whole place walked right out onto pool area and could eat/drink on our terrace with goods bought much more cheaply from Lidls (right across the road).

Pool area amazing, large and not over crowed even in mid August. Kids club girls fantastic, my 11 year old son had a lot of fun wtih them.

Thomson reps very helpful and regularly in Reception.

Did the Black Pearl pirate ship trip, highly recommended fun for all ages.

Also did the Big Red Bus trip to Famagusta and Varosha the ghost town, very interesting and informative but take lots of sunblock, gets very hot on the top deck.

Beaches lovely but crowded have to get down early to get a good sunbed. We managed to find a quiet corner of Fig Tree Bay a few times. Also get the bus to "The Secret Beach" can't remember it's name but its a few short stops on the bus, steep climb down steps but they have banana shaped sunbeds that also go in the water, genius idea! Further out Nissi Beach well worth a visit, beautiful clear blue sea and white sand, lots of watersports and music bars on the beach (foam party on a Sunday!!!).

Protarus Strip at night very nearby to apartments, very lively, if a bit cheesy, lots of tribute acts, some good, some rubbish but entertaining nonetheless. Lots of fab restaurants, our fave was Happy Days. Loveboat bar also our fave haunt.

We did self catering as can buy lovely breakfast things in Lidls and even cooked a couple of nice meals in (could do with an oven though).

Thank you to all the lovely staff at the Brilliant and the Thomson Reps and Kids Club Reps.

Superb.
