“Our Vrissiana Wedding 20th August 2014”
Reviewed 31 August 2014

We can't thank the Vrissiana enough for the most perfect wedding day ever! The venue/setting is beautiful, all of the staff were wonderful, polite and extremely professional. Although they have many weddings pass through each year, they have an amazing way of making you feel very special as though your wedding is the only one ever to happen. We were a small party of 20 and all of our guests have said how wonderful the wedding experience was. The food was amazing and the drinks package was such a good deal, they put the UK to shame!

We are all so impressed we're now talking about booking the Vrissiana for our anniversary next year.

All of the children loved Richard and Aris, the most friendly waiters you could ask for!

Finally, a HUGE thank you and recommendation to Angela Bence. She is amazing and didn't let us down in any way. Here help, advise and experience is second to none. Jackie, Ang's assistant on our wedding day was outstanding too. Many thanks to you both x

.............if you want peace and quiet.

The hotel makes no secret of the fact that it is situated right in the centre of the strip in Protaras, so if what you want on holiday is a hotel close to a large number of noisy bars and restaurants, this is the place for you. If you want quiet relaxation, go elsewhere. The noise from the clubs and bars goes on until around 2.00a.m., with each bar trying to outdo the other for how much noise they can make. At around 5.00 a.m. you start to hear the noise of bin lorries, delivery trucks, lawnmowers (!) in neighbouring hotels, etc. So bring your earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

That being said, the hotel is comfortable and the staff are friendly enough. The rooms are clean and comfortable and spacious enough with a fridge and tea/coffee-making facilities. There is daily cleaning service when towels were replaced. I think the bed linen was also changed at least once during our week’s stay. The air-conditioning was not great, with many of the public areas not being cool at all and the bedrooms cooled after it had been on a while. The food in the buffet restaurant was good with plenty of choice and several times a week there was a ‘theme night’ with, for example, Italian or oriental food.

The hotel entertainment, which took place in the 5-star sister hotel next door was O.K., but not perhaps the quality you might expect from 4/5-star hotels: a couple of tribute act nights, a children’s magic show, a parrot show, etc.

We stayed all-inclusive which meant that most of our drinks were covered, as long as you stuck to non-brand spirits and local beer, etc. Some things were not included such as bottled water (although the pool bar would refill water bottles for you) and fresh fruit juice. The ‘inclusive’ children’s ice-cream was limited to a choice from three tubs of ‘scooped’ ice-cream served in a cup. Branded ice lollies, cones, etc were prominently displayed, but not included. (Try explaining that to a 4-year-old). The ‘inclusive’ daytime ‘snacks’ looked particularly unappetising and I didn’t try them (warming trays of pizza slices, chips, (and, bizarrely) sandwiches kept warm all afternoon by the pool.

The pool was a good size and you could also access the pool of the sister hotel next door. It was sometimes a little ‘lively’ with water polo games and aqua-aerobics and other such activities on offer. There are plenty of sunbeds and parasols. However, there does not seem to be a policy regarding ‘booking’ sunbeds with towels. The six poolside cabanas and many of the sunbeds were always ‘booked’ with towels from before 8 a.m. Sometimes, they then lay empty for much of the morning. Occasionally, people tried to ‘book’ them the night before, but then they risked having their towels soaked by the staff cleaning the area in the morning. The pool is particularly busy at the weekend when many locals seem to use it.

We made the mistake of one night opting for a restaurant owned by the parent company situated up on the strip. This was a half-Italian, half-Greek affair which offered a 15 Euro ‘mezze’-style meal for 5 Euros if you were all-inclusive at the hotel. We opted for this one evening and informed Reception who, we thought, would reserve a table for us. When we arrived (6 adults, 2 children and a toddler) they didn’t seem to be expecting us and had to push tables together. The food arrived promptly and was plentiful and reasonable quality for the price. However, everything stopped there. They had also booked in a large party of around 24 people and after they arrived, our service stopped completely. There were only 3 members of staff to deal with all the tables, one being a girl who frantically tried to keep up with drinks orders at the bar. We could not get another drink and an hour and a half after we started, I had to tell the waiter we had finished our main course and wanted cleared up. After waiting some more, we eventually gave up and paid and left, without having got our dessert, coffee or ‘inclusive’ brandy. They should not accept bookings if they do not have the staff to cope. I complained to reception on return and she noted our complaint.

We booked a room on the fourth floor at the so-called ‘quieter’ end of the hotel, away from the strip and paid extra for a sea view. You should note that, although the view was nice, nearly every room is side-on to the coast and should really be described as a side-sea view room. Also, be aware that the hotel is popular for weddings which are held at the pool end of the hotel. So, even if you have chosen this position to get away from the strip, you still have the noise of wedding celebrations. At least these stop around midnight.

Wi-fi is available at a charge. (Apparently some brochures advertise free wi-fi in the lobby, but this is not the case.) There is also a charge to use the safe. Ironing facilities are available in a wee room off Reception.

Room Tip: Request a room on a high floor away from the strip. However, you will probably only get this if you...

The positives-
• Clean tidy modern rooms brightly decorated in white and blue colours

• Service was fast

• Cocktails were amazing and they had a happy hour on most nights between 9-11 pm in the bar.

• Food was very nice just needed more choices for children.

• Beautiful pool area with comfy beds ( very clean)

• Couldn't ask for a better location. The hotel is right on the middle of the strip.
• There is an amazing fresh juice bar situated on the hotel site behind the pool.

• Helpful staff ( English speaking )

The negatives -

• All sea view rooms are on the side of the building so it's not a frontal view of the sea which you'd expect to get if you booked a sea view.

• €30 euros for wifi for 7 days, €17 to use the safe.

• There is no ironing facilities in the room. If you want to iron clothes there is a room behind reception where you can use the iron there.

• Needed more food choices for children as most days it was chicken nuggets and chips. Adults food was great !

• On the last day we got charged for our meal even though we were on a half board basis. We had missed our dinner and breakfast the day before but they still insisted on charging us. (Disgraceful! , this was the only negative comment that really bothered us, as we had missed about 4 meals which we were entitled to. €39 euros for me and my son to eat before going onto the airport!

I would recommend anyone traveling to this hotel to pay the extra 100-200 to go all inclusive in your package as the drinks are quite expensive.

We stayed there last weekend the whole family on a half board basis and had a most wonderful and relaxed time. Location is excellent right on one of the best beaches of the island right in the center of Protaras and not at all noisy as some comments we read. Staff is friendly especially at the reception - my vote goes to Savoulla! The rooms are clean, spacious and recently renovated. Beds are extremely comfortable and compare well to 5* hotels abroad. We consider it value for money and we are definitely going back . Advice: Do not miss the aquarobic class for the ladies and parrot show, the kids loved it.

We stayed in Vrissiana for a week in August and we had a wonderful time, both the location of the hotel and the facilities it offered made us relax. The food was excellent and the staff were always very helpful. The hotel was very tidy and the rooms very clean, there was a cleaning service every day. It is a very good choice for those who want to be right at the beach and the center of everything in Protaras.!!!!

Fantastic hotel superbly situated right on the beach and the main strip. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and the service is excellent. The pool is quiet and relaxed. There is no problem getting sun beds. The food is plentiful with something for all tastes. My husband spoke to the main hotel manager as people had left towels on sun beds at 8pm for the next day. The manager had them removed straight away. Their attentiveness was second to non as soon as you sat down on the outside veranda then the fans would be switched on above you. Service was fast and delivered with a smile. There is a noisy bar at the top of the street, but once the patio doors are shut you cant here it. We slept like logs. We were not ready to come home after 14 days and would recommend this hotel. The only down side is that the air conditioning is not over effective, and if that was addressed then this hotel is faultless in our opinion. Highly reccomended thank you for an excellent holiday :-)

Room Tip: Chose a side sea view towards the front of the hotel. Dont pay for full sea view, as the rooms get t...
