“The quieter end of Protaras”
Reviewed 26 July 2011

We were a family of three that took a double room with extra bed - half board. The room had a partial sea view from its balcony facing southeast. The decor is simple and comfortable. Nights were peaceful and we slept very well with the air conditioning on. The buffet breakfast was comprehensive. Staff at the reception and outdoor bar were helpful and friendly. There is a good pool area and lawn with sun beds adjacent to the pool and bar. Perhaps the hotel's greatest asset is its proximity to the local beach and sea. The beach and water is fantastic and lies at the quiet end of Protaras. There are a host of local restaurants and tavernas within walking distance with something for every taste. Good value for money and a lovely location.

hi im andy from england ,i stayed at the pernera beach hotel at easter 2011 ,wow what a fantastic hotel brilliant atmosphere and absolutley brilliant food we stayed half board and the selection of food was fantastic and we never went hungary.
BUT by far and away the best thing about the holiday was the fabulous entertainment by one stop entertainer MIKE and his team of entertainers this is no word of a lie i didnt stop laughing from start to finish the shows they put on for us on a night were brilliant from singing and dancing to fire eating (fantastic) to quizes and bingo bongo and disco s for the children .i have never seen an entertainment team so friendly and work so hard they were brilliant .
then by day around the pool mike and the entertainment team had plenty of activities and compertitions to keep us occupied from archery to darts to beach volleyball but they were not pushy if you didnt want to join in they left you to sunbathe.
the holiday for me was made for us by mikey and his team we stayed around the hotel most of the time because of this .
i will definately go back to this hotel very soon FANTASTIC HOLIDAY FANTASTIC ENTERTAINMENT AND FOOD AND VERY FRIENDLY STAFF THROUGHOUT
thankyou mikey for making our holiday.

Over the last ten years we have stayed 5-6 times in this hotel.Sorry to say this is the last time that we shall be staying. Since our last visit 4-5 years ago i have noticed that not much attention is been payed to the hotel, the breakfasts are cold the food hasn't changed over the last 10 years. However we can not fall the cleanliness of the rooms and the maids and staff are great at their job. Also much attention should be given to the animation team because the atmosphere around the pool on afternoon needs to be more lively, you should consider the needs of all general public and not target a specific age.

We also have noticed how much bar prices vary compared to the hotel shop, we felt that the bar was extremely over priced. For example a small bottle of water in the shop was 40cents and the bar charged 1euro and 45cents for the same bottle of water.

However we have had some wonderful times over the years but we feel the hotel needs updating and get in with modern times.

Thank you for hospitatlity
Yours sincerly
M.Bower

This was our fourth stay at the Pernera Beach Hotel and we had a fabulous time. We met a few couples of British holidaymakers there and all got on very well. This year there did seem to be a lot more Russians and we did find them very rude and a bit aggressive. They never seem to smile or make any attempt to be friendly and this could prove to be a bit off putting for future holiday makers. We were not the only ones to notice this because people from other hotels made the same comment.

The only downside (2), there were a lot more children this year (foreigners) and whilst we don't object to children, having had our own, we found them very unruly by running around the pool (despite notices and an accident waiting to happen) and shouting at the top of their voices whilst their parents didn't take the slightest bit of notice. Luckily they left after a couple of days and peace reigned. The second one was smoking in the restaurant. We used to eat outside in the evening because it was too hot to eat inside, and the people on the table next to us lit up after their meal and one young man lit a cheroot. The smell was awful and really put us off. They were on a long table and the smoke drifted all around. A few people looked a bit put out but we had nearly finished our meal so we were able to leave quickly. It was the first time it had happened and I was surprised it was allowed. We made sure we didn't sit near them again. I did mention it in the comments before we left.

Anyway, apart from that we had a really good time, and found the food very good with a lovely selection (the beef melted in your mouth). We enjoyed the breakfasts and the 'snacks' lunchtime (very big and enough for 2 people) and will return again in a year or two.

Room Tip: We were given a free upgrade and had a lovely room, huge bed and bathroom and lovely balcony.

Stayed at the hotel from July 13th to the 15th of this year and stayed in a room with an 'in-land view'. Paid roughly $100 a night for a 3rd floor room, which had a view of a large construction site of about 30 villias. However the balcony was of a decent size and the rooms had large windows. The AC did its job pretty well apart from a brief moment where it drained a cup's worth of water on the floor. Notified the front desk, went for dinner and it was fixed by the time we returned.

There is a lovely beach front near by, populated by many species of fish and fire worms (Do NOT touch the worms!) and plants. In fact if you swim out far enough there is a pillar placed under the water in which many fish like to hang around by. Very recommended for snorkelers.

Food was of a decent price and the quality was quite good, not stellar but perfect for a hotel. Breakfast was of the typical British standard (Eggs, baked beans, over cooked bacon, cut fruit and so forth) and was included with our room. Dinner was of a better quality, varied and enjoyable (ran about 20 euros a meal plus a drink). House rose and white wines are recommended with the meal. The serving staff were beyond fantastic and friendly.

Room Tip: Cheapest is inland view, ask for one not so close to the elevator for quiet.

We love this hotel, it is in a quiet cul-de-sac at the end of a road. It is the kind of place that if you wish to be in the hustle and bustle of the resort you can be, but at the end of the evening you will be glad to know it is very very quiet, oh and you can sleep.

I would highly recommend paying the etc to upgrade to sea-view, the views are exceptional, otherwise it maybe a view of the car park !

The swimming pool isn't over sized but plenty of swimming space and loungers. We never had a problem at all getting a bed for the day. If you want the beach, it is virtually on the sea, so therefore 2 mins and you are there. Parasols and loungers are priced at 2.50 euro per item. There is a grassed area near the pool and sea with free umbrellas and sun loungers.
The bedrooms are spacious but the TVs are really really old, some have flat screens but we never and hardly any english channels on them at all.
There is a large balcony with chairs and a table to relax.
Everywhere is spacious throughout this hotel and is good for people with walking difficulties, although Cyprus in general is not good with uneven paths and unfinished roads.

There are lots of activities in the hotel with a daily programme of evens and shows at night which are fairly good.

Breakfasts are good value as other guests have said and equally nice are the dinners with a lot of choice. Although saying this, i found last years better, maybe the choice, i am not sure.

Laundry service here, and you do have to pay for safety deposit boxes about 24 euro per fortnight.

Staff are very friendly, we had no problems at all. We always had a laugh with reception staff, very curtious and attentive.

Surrounding area has a good array of food restaurants, and tour shops, i recommend Platoon for your trips, a lot cheaper than your reps and more knowledgeable. You will find this by coming out of the hotel, reach the fork in the road and it is opposite. Good bars are the Ranch near the hotel for good atmosphere, KoKos where it is 2-1 on shorts. Free wifi at the Windmills bar (when its working) and the fresh house bar and restaurant at the top of the street 5 mins from the windmills.

The fresh house is exactly that, very good prices for all budgets, exceptionally clean and tidy. Panikos and Maria welcome everyone, they are the cleanest restaurant by miles in my opinion. Very friendly, if your choice is not on the menu, Panikos will do it for you. All the family can enjoy the ambiance, including watching TV or playing pool. It is not a noisy place to eat, but tables and brollies are outside to watch the world go by and relax.

Pernera is a lot quieter than protaras, but has a family feel to it, if you want noise at night, but to retire to your room and sleep, then this hotel and area will be right for you.
