My husband, 18-year-old daughter and I have just returned from a week at the Sunrise Beach Hotel 29/6 – 6/7/14. We arrived at approx. 0200 hrs. having travelled all day. There was no ‘welcome’ drink awaiting us on arrival, which was surprising having read previous reviews.

We booked our holiday through Thomson and paid extra for the privilege of a full sea view room, so imagine our disappointment when we were informed upon check in, that our room would not be ready until the next day. We were told the correct room would be allocated at 1200 noon the following day. As did not want to ‘kick up a fuss’ we took the keys to the allocated room.

The room was at the rear of the hotel, noisy, hot (air con not working) with no sea view, to say we were a little disappointed at this stage, was an understatement.

However when we went to collect keys from reception we were told room would not be ready until at least 13.00, with clothes creasing in the suitcase we were advised to hang clothes in wardrobe and porter would move to correct room when it was ready. Later back in reception to collect new keys an argument commenced between porter and reception regarding taking clothes to our new room. All in all not a great start to holiday!

Our new room was far better than the original with an amazing panoramic view of beach – the only problem being we had no bed for teenage daughter and so we had to wait for a makeshift bed to arrive and not a proper bed as described by Thomson.

Almost a half-day wasted trying to sort out room, not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel!

The hotel itself has positive points, great location as near all amenities shops/bars. Staff friendly be it at the pool/bars/restaurants – would especially like to thank Neo who kept things running smoothly in the restaurant areas, a true gentleman always pleasant and friendly.

Negative – the hotel is looking a bit tired in areas, the first room we were allocated was in need of a refurb as looking rather dated, lift area had masking tape on marble – again not what you would expect from a 5 star hotel, lift action very slow and always full. Last year we stayed in a four star hotel in Mallorca and the rooms were much more stylish/modern.

I personally like pouring my own wine, as I am not a big drinker and so like to know what I am drinking and yet despite our protest each evening, the waiters insisted on pouring wine for us. The same applied to dirty dishes; these were removed even before you finished the last mouthful of food – which made a relaxing experience, not so relaxing.

Allocation of sunbeds – pros/cons …. At least you know you have a bed without the usual early morning rush, daughter didn’t like the fact we were sat in the same place day in and day out … it got boring!
Also there is very little space in-between sunbeds and it felt cramped and intrusive on occasions.

I would recommend a trip on the Dolphin Submarine boat – only ∈10 each and well worth the money – had a great time swimming in the blue lagoon.

Also went into Ayia Napa on the bus ∈4.50 each way for all of us, certainly worth a look!

All in all had an enjoyable time, but fair to say the room mix up spoilt what should have been an excellent holiday.

The couple booking in before us also had a similar issue with rooms – it later transpired there had been double bookings for this week, which lead to confusion/upset.

Nice hotel, but in my opinion not a 5 star.

Room Tip: Suggest pay extra for sea view room .... and you might get one in the end!!

This was my first time to Cyprus and to this hotel but it definitely won't be my last! From the minute we walked through the Reception doors we were greeted in the most friendliest of manor and the staff could not have done more for us!

Located on the beach you will not be short of activities throughout your stay from glass bottom boat trips to paragliding over the beautiful sea there is something for everyone! The water world water park is only a bus ride away and is a perfect family day out!

The hotel is exceptional! Perfect location, the food was outstanding, the rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable with air con which is a saviour in this heat!

The staff are fantastic in the hotel! They make you feel welcome and really put a smile on your face! Shout out to Justine In the othello bar who you could just sit and chat to for ages! So friendly and welcoming her service was outstanding! Also Sophia who served us drinks many evenings! Always smiling and so so friendly!

Massive credit to John our Thompson's rep who is by far the best rep I've ever encountered on a holiday abroad! Friendly! Funny! And went above and beyond his role to make out holiday the best we've had! He went out of his way to help my now fiancé organise our proposal and for that I am truly grateful! Nothing was too much trouble for him! He is a credit to Thompson's and this hotel!

Overall this is a fantastic holiday and hotel and I cannot wait to return!

I can't fault this hotel. Stayed in 2009, 2010 and just returned from another great weeks stay. All the staff are so attentive, polite and friendly. Big thanks to Adamos & Yiannis on the beach bar, Pavlos who looks after the sunbeds and the lovely lady in the gift shop who took time to teach us some Greek. John our Thomson rep was very visible and always on hand to help (and join in the aquafit!). Angelo and the rest of the 'fun in the sun' team do brilliantly with the daytime activities and even if you don't usually get off the sunbed have a go at the water volleyball - great way to mix with all the guests and such a laugh (and fairly competitive!).
If you want the posh sunbeds stay at the Pearl next door but if you want 5 star with some fun too pick here. Good mix of relaxing but not too quiet. The extra touches like the frozen towels and fresh fruit brought to your sunbed were lovely as well as the dedicated sunbed so no problem if you want a lie in. The place is immaculate, the food is plentiful and tasty and you have to try the Kyklos Greek restaurant for the best local dishes. Location couldn't be better - right on the pure white sand beach with lots of watersports and boat trips. The main street full of bars and restaurants is right of the doorstep too. From karaoke bars to theme pubs to posh cocktail bars and coffee bars it has something for everyone. You would need to stay a month to try all the great restaurants from Cypriot, Italian, Mexican, Seafood, Indian, Texmex to a greek mac at Maccy Ds (try one!). There is plenty of nightlife if you want to party to the early hours but equally once the balcony door is shut you can have an quiet night while the party continues without being disturbed. Perfect for families, couples or 30 something friends. Can't wait to return!

Room Tip: seaview are the best but a room overlooking the Pearl (west side) gets the sun on the balcony in the...

This was our first time in Cyprus and proved to be a wonderful trip. Hotel was excellent, in a good location and the staff were friendly and helpful and facilities were first class. One or two gripes, wifi reception was poor and you had to be in the lobby to get a decent signal. Also there was a lack of coat hangars in the room and storage space generally was not very generous. The air conditioning was pretty useless and noisy and the noise from the night club across the road was annoying when you were trying to get to sleep. Our room, 307, was above the wedding area and the discos from those events was also proved to be a bit trying.
Food was good especially the 'eat around' options, The Lemongrass restaurant was the best of these by far. The breakfast buffet was nice although it's a shame they didn't do omlettes.
Thomson rep John was friendly and efficient and the flights were all on time.
Protaras is a great resort with just about everything you could want from a holiday. Recommended!

Room Tip: Pick a sea view room, preferably at the front and not the side as we had.

Stayed at the Sunrise from 18th June for 2 weeks. This was our 3rd visit to Sunrise. This time for our first wedding anniversary. Greeted by John the Thomson rep, who was great, always about and very helpful. After a glass of chilled orange jouce we were shown to our room.

At first we were dissappointed as we were given a twin rather than a double, but after a quick chat with John this was sorted for us the next morning.
Amazing how many people remember you from previous visits, Stravos at the pool bar, Maria on reception and Angelo the entertainer.

We came here for our Honeymoon last year and part of the reason we came back is because Angelo made it so much fun for us. He is a true star.

I had emailed the hotel in advance requesting a cake for our anniversary. This was exactly how I wanted it and Maria went out of her way to ensure the delivery of it was a surprise for my husband. Even more amazing was the upgrade she gave us for the second week..panaromic sea view suite. If you can afford it then I would definately recommend it! The view over the sea was breathtaking.

Will be back again!

Room Tip: Sea view rooms have an amazing view
