“7th year at the Iliada”
Reviewed 27 October 2012

We stayed at the Iliada Beach Hotel for the first time seven years ago. Our stay for the two weeks considering all aspects of our holiday was excellent, so therefore we decided to return and have been returning for the past 7 years.
For a perfect holiday the hotel satisfied all our main ingredients these being, firstly the staff.
From first contact at reception, Augusta, Georgina and Elena could not have been be more friendly and welcolming giving the true meaning to the hospitality industry. This is followed on by the waiting staff who were always well presented, efficient, courtious and friendly with special thanks to Kenny, Costas, Savvas, Makis and Andreas. The cuisine was excellent and we commend Costas and his team for its preparation and presentation (not to forget Christina with her mouthwatering omlettes at breakfast).
The cleaning staff did a first class job as all areas of the hotel where kept very clean indeed both inside and out and would like to give a special mention of our room maid, Georgia who looked after us very well for the duration of our holiday.
The room we found was of a good size and well fitted out with good side sea view. We liked the provision of tea and coffee making facillities, ideal for us Brits.
Second ingredient for the hotel is its location. This must be the best section of beach (no rocks) in fig tree bay.
When we went in October towards the end of the season the hotel was looking a bit tired and ready for a 'make-over'. I hope this is undertaken before the start of next season.
Thirdly, the large car park. As we usually hire a car for the two week there is ample parking both above and below ground.
The sun bed area we like with its tree mix and fabulous sea view.
There is now a first class walkway between the hotel and the beach which we found ideal for a strole with sun shelters, seating, water fountains and toilets along its great length, but you will need plenty of energy to walk its full length.
As mentioned we went in October and the evening entertainment in the hotel had all but finished. We got two nights of a dancing troupe which were fantastic but other nights there was only karaoke or bingo but just across the road was Rockafellas so we spent most nights there.
We have already booked again for October 2013, our 8th visit.

Room Tip: Choose a high room to get the best view if you do not mind using a lift. Although it did not affect...

We have been regulars at The Iliada for many a year! This year we stayed at The Silver Sands next door! (Nice hotel but small rooms)...We upgraded to an all-inc package at The Iliada as we had friends there! Basically, the hotel needs some work done on it! Fixtures and fittings are in need of replacing! The rooms need some work done on them as well! We saw a lot of people arriving at The Hotel only to be told there was no room! The staff are not to blame for this! The girls at reception are subjected to abuse from new arrivals on a daily basis, i believe the owners are responsible for there policies of deliberately overbooking the hotel! I felt so sorry for the girls who do an honest days work for peanuts! I hope the owners take note of all the complaints. As for the staff, all the Slovak girls were fantastic as usual working non-stop to do everything possible to make sure you were well fed and watered! Makis was his usual self on the bar, and this years entertainment guy Aaron was a great lad as was his other half Lisa our Thomas Cook rep...The Iliada a few years was a struggling 4* hotel. These days if you went around finding fault, one would have a field day and it would barely make a 3*. The food was plenty but at times items seemed cold instead of hot! Of course there are good points about The Iliada....apart from the friendly staff and its ideal beachfront location....but to say i was a tad dissapointed this year is an understatement. The owners really need to sort this out! May i suggest some refurbishment work is a good start, and learn to respect your staff and pay them what they really deserve! Maybe then, they will work with a smile on there faces and you might start to get some positive feedback from Trip Adviser!!!

Room Tip: Can only suggest you book a side sea view room....but then again with all the overbooking issues...y...

arrived late sunday night sunday 7th october to be told hotel overbooked. This was our 4th year on the trot inthe Illiada we booked in february so not as if we booked late.Hotel upgraded us to all inclusive and asked us to sign a disclaimer which we refused we were moved upto Antigoni 3star at the back of the resort for two nights of our 7 night stay. When we moved back into Illiada everything fine it isnt the staffs fault seems to be Tsokkos hotels policy to overbook. We love Protaras and will go back next year but not in the Illiada or any other Tsokkos hotel.
youve been warned

Arrived at 3.30am and were immediately slapped on with all inclusive bands, bundled into a taxi and all 8 of us taken to the Antigoni, the hotel from Hell. Next day walked all the way back to the Iliada and were told that there were rooms available the next day, only 2 rooms with upgraded sea views, and 2 rooms with side sea view rooms. We were told that we could have the other sea view rooms on the Friday. We agreed to this. On the Friday on the move again to the sea view rooms, considering we arrived on Monday morning this was nearly a week living out of cases! However once we were all in it was fantastic. We also had a free fridge and safe for the fortnight and a late check out all gratis! The hotel is a bit dated, but very clean. The staff are all so friendly they really make you feel welcome. Special mentions to Costas, Ken and Makis. There is not a lot of choice of food, but you can always find something to eat and it was delicious. This was a very relaxing hotel not suitable for children. The all inclusive drinks were strong! I would go back to this hotel again if it wasn't always over booked! Thanks to Lisa our rep

It is a shame that the rest of protarus make a real effort to welcome tourists, the shops are great, anyone will give you assistance, and the local residents are very friendly and interested in tourists. However over booking will ruin this location as many people just will not return, we arrived at 1am monday morning, my sister and i are disabled we had my 2 year old grandson with us and we had to wait for a taxi and relocate to another hotel. the night porter is just that and not a receptionist or admin person, when we arrived he had his hand bandaged as someone had tried to take the overbooking issue out on him.
nearly everyone in the Antigoni which is where we were moved to was there because of overbooking, the food there is not at all as a high standard as the illiada and neither are the rooms. my grandson had to sleep on the floor as there was not a family room nor any where else for him to sleep.
we waited until weds to be relocated as they could not offer us adjoining rooms with my sister, even though we had confirmed this at time of booking.
there is no correlation with the holiday you book in your local travel agent at home to the holiday you get. we arrived at the illiada on weds to find an invite for a welcome meetingfrom our travel rep for the monday passed, so its obvious she hadnt made any effort to find out where we were.
what the hotels dont tell you and this is a perk is that tsokkos own 30 hotels in the region and if you get the full board sweetener with your wrist band you can then access any tsokkoa hotel and eat and drink there for free.
the illiadas air conditioning is poor, it doesnt really coo they will bring it to your hotel.l the air and we had to hire fans from holihire.if you need anything for your holiday, prams, fans, cots, microwaves, anything really

Arrived 7pm 10th Oct, (having got up at 3am to get to Leeds airport), to find it's overbooked. Stood my ground and they reduced our exile from 4 nights to only 1, and they threw in the usual freebies.Other guests from different travel companies had the same gripe, I felt sorry for the Reps.
They have a jewel of a hotel there, and they throw it away with overbooking, scruffy corridors, stained carpets. Four-star ? I don't think so. Brilliant location, nice staff, decent food but not spectacular.
Our first time in Cyprus, and we're already looking to go again next year but probably not to Iliades. Rumours have it that Thos Cook are dropping it from their brochure because they are shelling out so much in compensation for overbooking.

Had a nice time at Iliada. Go to Protaras twice a year and have done for last 13 years. Fancied a change of hotel. The staff and cleaners are amazing. Food nice. We were very disappointed in the location of our room. Side sea view was in fact tree view. Also it was overlooked by the reception area of hotel and so there was no privacy on balcony. We requested a room change on two occasions nut were refused even though others got changes and they were in better ones! That is only criticism.
