“great hotel, great location, good value for money”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

we stayed as a family at the hotel from 14th september - 21st september. we emailed the hotel prior to our stay to request a cot as travelling with a young child. the hotel offered us one of their superior rooms away facing the pool and this was great. The hotel decor is a little dated and the rooms are basic but for the money paid are perfectly adequate. The maids changed towels and made bedding daily and you will always see staff around the hotel cleaning so the hotel has no cleanliness issues. We stayed half board, we would definatley recommend you go the bbq night which during our stay was held on thursday. The greek dancers entertain you while you dine and you can join them in dancing afterwards, brilliant night. You can also opt to choose to eat at lunch rather than evening meal if you are half board and we would highly recommend you do this. At lunch you are offered a 3 course set menu with a choice of 3 dishes on both starter and main, you are able to choose one and this is then prepared for you fresh. At the evening you have a buffet which is ok but food isnt as good quality as lunch and with so many resturants reasonably priced we found it nicer to eat out in the evening. The location of the hotel is at the top of the main street and this is perfect for bars, restaurants and the beach. The staff were all friendly and helpful during our stay. The only thing for those staying with children is that there is no entertainment for them during the day from staff. There is a small play area on the grass with young childrens toys and the childrens pool is ideal for babies. This is not a major issue with how lively the resort is and the beach is only a 5 - 10 minute walk away. We would stay here again if we returned to protaras, great value for money, great resort for families, no complaints.

Room Tip: email the hotel prior to your stay and they will do thier best to satisfy your request. we travelled...

We stayed in the Hotel from 4th September until 18th September. The location of the hotel is great. Right at the top end of the strip near McDonalds. Not far to walk to the beach and very handy to catch the local bus. The Hotel is a little dated and needs refurbishing.
When we arrived we were given Room 101. OMG not big enough to swing a cat in. There were 3 single beds in, all squeezed together. There was very little wardrobe space, the balcony was like a matchbox and the bathroom not much bigger.
When we complained, (which I have never done before, wherever I have stayed) I was pleasantly surprised by the staff. Very helpful indeed. We were given another room to look at, straight away. Not much bigger, but only had 2 beds in it and the balcony was bigger as well.
We agreed to the swap straight away. Thankyou for that.
All in all not a bad Hotel, but if we do go back I would definitely upgrade to a superior room.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask NOT to go in room 101

even though i stayed in the hotel and was kind of satisfied, except that the sheets on the bed where not clean. i was happy with the stay. a friend of mine is staying in the hotel for a week with half board stay. when last night she went to the water dispenser to have some water, the employee took the glass and told her that that water was allowed to be drunk only with breakfast. so that she buys water! this is really disappointing

Room Tip: ask for clean sheets

read the reviews on here and was a little anxious.arrived to a nice fight outside mcdonalds from the locals but was more slap n tickle!!we booked a family room basic but clean.maid came every day,i cannot fault the staff and a special mention to gernie martin and diane who made a special effort with us to enjoy our time here.we even had a free drink from the hotel manager on Cyprus bbq night(entertainment quite amusing).the kids loved that it was overlooking the dancing fountains which u do have to pay for but they watched over the hotel wall.i will definatly be staying here again should I ever go back to protaras(but not in august..far too hot)but we did have 2 family weddings!!thankyou to all the staff at kapetanios bay hotel we really enjoyed ourselves.the food was amazing foe a 3star hotel

Room Tip: family rooms but do insist on a kettle as it wasn't provided but said it was or if your a couple...

Stayed here for a week in July 2013 and had a great time. Protarus has got something to offer most people, and this hotel is in a great position for it. You're sat at the top of the strip, about 15 minutes walk from the nearest beach and with bus stops right outside.

In terms of quality it was exactly what we expected, having opted for one of the cheaper hotels (presumably as all other reviewers have). The room was big, with an extra single bed, decent bathroom and small but big enough balcony. Cleaners were around every day. So you can easily ignore all the 0/1 ratings on here - it's not going to be a disaster.

There is some truth in the friendliness/service though. We hired a fridge for €2/day which was well worth it, but only knew about it because of comments on this site. You won't get offered ANYTHING from reception, even money spinners like safes, restaurant bookings, excursions etc. So do your research! We never got asked if everything was ok, enjoyed the holiday etc. but I don't find that too offensive.

Breakfast isn't great and is served a bit early if you're planning on taking the bus to Napa the night before, but as most bars on the strip will do fry-ups for €3 this isn't the end of the world.

As with most things you get what you pay for, and I wouldn't put anyone off staying here, especially if like us you intend to be out most of the time!

Room Tip: If you want a view then ask for one, or stay somewhere along the beach front. Are McDonalds and bars...

We stayed at the hotel from 9th-16th July 2013. It was really an amazing time, a very nice holiday!
The location of hotel is great, is in the center of Protaras, everything is near (restaurants, bars, apotheke, gift shops, Mcdonalds, bus station etc. are to find in 5 min)
We had a pool side room, so not so really noisey. The room is ok, with TV (never watched...on holiday no TV :),very clean,(cleaning everyday) bathroom is not so big, but good enough for using. Balcony was also small, but enough for the morning cigarette. Most of time we spend out of the hotel.
Adapter is needed, but on the reception is possible to get one for 2 Eur deposit.
We had half board, for breakfast the guests can eat eggs, bacon, sausage, cereals, marmelade, butter, honey, some salads...drink as grapefruit juice, orange juice or water and 6-8 tipes of cafe. Dinner: different kind of meats: pork, beef, chicken, fish, lamb. Pasta, salad....and so on. Lot of good food, we where satisfied. Only one thing could be better: more fruit. Was only some orange and grapefruit, somethimes melon. Nothing else. The drinks like water, beer, wine must be payd.
Dessert: cakes, puding and I think some russian desserts, didnt knew what these was. (the 90% of the guest comes from Russia, also the personal and waitresses.)
It was interesting all the time in the hotel and in shops, restaurant everibody started to speek russian to us. I think in the one week I said min. hundred time: "sorry, I dont speak russian".
No problem, everyone speak english, german not so really (would be better for us, our second language)
The hotel pool is great, clean, and all time free places. Not necessary to be hurry in the morning to reserve places. Sunbed and umbrella are for free.
The beach is cca. 10 Min. walk from the hotel. A very nice street leads to the sea. There are a lot of shops to buy everything. Water is cheaper as in the hotel, in Cyprus the water is never enough! (is a lil shop direct at the hotel entrance, this has also good prices)
The beach "fig tree bay" is beautiful! Clean water, nice sand and all tipe of water sports. Parasailing is something to "must try", its great!
Umbrella and 2 sunbed costs 7,5 Eur for all day.
Its worth to find out Agia Napa, the next city from Protaras and Cave Greco, the beautiful place, where lot of fantastic photos can be made. The tour can be taken by buggy, quads, (are for rent at all second corner) or with bus from the station direct front of the McDonalds.

Cyprus is a great place, am sure we'll return to the Island of Afrodite :)

Room Tip: Pool side rooms are better, not noisey.
