My girlfriend and i are in our 20's and spent 2 weeks at the Vangelis in May/June. We went for the self-catering option and we felt we made the right decision after seeing that the hotel bar and restaurant looked average. Even if it served spectacular food i can't understand how you would want to spend £100's extra to go all-inclusive when there is so much variety of bars and restaurants just a few steps out of the hotel.

That leads me on to the big plus point...the location...Vangelis is located right in the middle of Protaras and is perfect for going out for a lovely meal and a few drinks without worrying about getting back to your room. All the restaurants are quite samey but we found Olympus at the far end as you turn right out of Vangelis. we spent a few nights there and ended up having free drinks with the staff into the early hours. It also a nice stroll to the beach...Fig Tree Bay is the best one to go to.

As for the room, it was located at the back of the complex with an inland view which wasn't great but we didn't mind, seeing as we paid a budget price (more later...) and the sun flooded our room in the evenings, perfect for a post beach beer! We didn't have any problems with the noise from the strip but i suspect that was because we were located at the back, however the walls are paper thin and beware of the cleaners and their trolleys knocking on the door at 9am (not great after a few drinks the night before). As with the previous reviewer, the cleaners didn't really clean, they literally just made the bed (5 times a week) and changed our towells (every other day). The bed(s) is not very comfortable...it is two thin single beds pushed together however i wasnt surprised that was the case.

The entertainers were ok, they try there best and are enthusiastic.

I mentioned earlier that we paid a budget price...we paid just over £400 each for 2 weeks self catering with Purple Holidays. This is a company which delivers a holiday package in a very disjointed manner. Unlike Thomson etc...who provide a seamless care free holiday (flights, transfers, hotel, welcome meeting) Purple Holidays get the above from other companies ie flights - monarch, transfers - HolidayTaxis.com? hotel - Cosmos (welcome meeting was arranged for the morning after we got there but no one told us! just wouldn't happen with your larger companies). They also made us CONFIRM our transfers and flights home! something you don't want to worry about whilst on holiday. The lesson we learnt is that although these budget companies seem...budget...i would rather pay a bit more and get a good stress free service.

Overall, hotel was ok and cant complain considering what we paid and we loved Protaras, lively but not too lively.

I stayed at Vangelis Apartments for two weeks self catering in May 2007. My boyfriend and I found the apartment very clean, spacious and cleaned regularly. The staff were friendly and helpful. We didnt have any food there but what we saw looked nice - themed buffet nights every night.
The pool area was very big and kept clean. My only complaint was that although we had a balcony we didnt have a sea view, just a view over the pool area - which is something I really miss.
All in all was a good holiday and had no grumbles about the hotel.

just returned from a weeks stay at the vangelis aparthotel and from the start of the week i felt i had been mislaid by the reviews and olympic holidays as this was not a 4* hotel.I found it to be shabby and dated and very noisy. Even on complaining about the noise we were not offered a change of room we travelled with a15 month child and the noise from the arcades and the kareoke bars had the walls in our apartment bouncing until 1.30am every single night i came home more tired and stressed than i went away. we only ate in the hotel onceand found the food to be below standard for the cost. the rooms were serviced in a fashion but we had to ask for toilet rolls and take our own rubbish away to a street bin. The entertainment staff at the hotel did a good job of entertaintaining the guests and i found them all to be very pleasant and helpful not so the hotel staff. the hotel pool complex is excellent and kept very clean.

We stayed at the Vangelis during our half term holidays in October (25th to 1st nov), the hotel was half empty when we arrived and as the week wore on it became steadily worse until the restaurant chairs were stacked up on our last day as we were obviously the last ones!. The hotel its self was ok, the rooms are large but basic and the food area was very small, with the food average. We were bed and breakfast which was fine but we met a couple who were all inclusive and we felt really sorry for them as we could not stomach one week of the same food. The day time entertainment team did the best they could but the night time was pretty poor, we went out every night so we got a break from it. The best thing about this hotel was the location, you are directly in the middle of the main strip in protaras, so ou the hotel to every thing you need.
I doubt we would go back to this one but for anyone on a budget it would be fine.

rooms are basic with dated furniture and the most uncomfortable beds i have ever slept on. The whole place needs a serious revamp as old and shabby. Drinks at bar expensive. However other guests did say it was a popular place and was 4 star standard compared to other places in Protaras! I would rate it 3 star tops and that is generous.

The staff are very friendly and the thomas cook entertainment staff were brilliant and made the stay more enjoyable.

Protaras itself is nice and the Vangelis is very centrally located for all of the bars and restuarants. Didnt have a bad meal out all week, so i think all places are good, were told to avoid the chinese's though?.

Did stay last week of season so very quiet and many bars started to shut by the e/o week, but imagine it would be pretty busy in its peak months. Beaches are good and can recommend XS watersports for their Parasailing, the kids loved it.

Would recommend Protaras, but look around for better accomadation first, or accept the dated Vangelis.

great hotel, very clean. me and my wife stayed there for 14 nights. we loved every minute of it. the pool was the best pool in any hotel i have ever stayed in. everyone was very friendly. lots of activities to do. good location. right by the great restaurants and nice pubs. 5 minute walk from the beach(fig tree bay) the only bad thing was the food in the hotel. we went self catering so only eat twice in the hotel and the food was poor both times. but will deffo go back.

On arriving at the Vangelis our first reaction into the lobby was shock as its supposed to be a 4* hotel! All the sofas in reception were dirty and covered in stains so when entering our room our horror continued. The furniture is so basic and dated, dust all over the shelves in wardrobe,tv did'nt work,my 14 year old daughters bed was a small hard camp bed in lounge. Just looking round at everything made her burst into tears so went down to reception at 1.30am and complained but he said all rooms would be the same and to see our first choice rep Kerry next day.We met up with Kerry who was so helpful but all nearby hotels at a better standard were full she only had Capo Bay which we had a large charge but was so worth every penny! We r an ordinary working class family but be warned this aparthotel is not a 4*star hotel and we did read the reviews before we went which were mostly good(can' see how!)so if you are at all fussy stay clear of this place. Also we only had one evening meal here which was cold and we could hear other guests complaining as well.Protaras is a beautful place though and we ended up having a great holiday.
