Arrived at the hotel 06:30 greeted and offered breakfast,as the room would not be available untill noon. I found this awkward as we had booked a 7 night holiday, though would only recieve 6 nights. We was given a tempary room, so able to get some sleep. This was not a good start.I did not enjoy having to complain, though the staff said it was the tour operators error. O well pass the buck. The rest of the holiday was good, the staff very friendly as all Cypriots we have met.The room clean though basic with single beds.A 4 star, in my opinion 3 star hotel. Would upgrade on our next visit.Beautiful gardens to relax in and enjoy the views.
Happy Holidays

Room Tip: Arrive after noon but before 5pm.

Thank you for your stay with us and your review. We appreciate your positive comments about our staff and the cleanness of the hotel.
Allow us to address your concerns regarding the check-in: Firstly, we are sincerely sorry that you felt this experience marred your stay with us and we will look into the issue with the Tour Operator to ascertain what was promised.
In this instance, we were able to extend a service to you in regards to finding you temporary accommodation to sleep following your journey, which we are pleased we were able to do, but we need to state that it is common practise for check-in to be around midday in hotels on the island, and around the world as this gives us the opportunity to prepare the room for the next guest by midday.
Regarding the star rating of the hotel we would like to state that in order for a hotel to gain their star rating, they are required to meet certain criteria of which we do, therefore our classification is correct and awarded by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO).
Once again, thank you for your review and we hope that one day we may have the priviledge of welcoming you back to Crystal Springs.

Being number 5 out of 64 hotels on trip advisor is a great start and having read the reviews I was confident we had chose a great start to our holiday to Cyprus.

WRONG!

On arrival we were told we had been "upgraded" to a Junior suite. Fantastic! When they said Junior they must have meant as in little people as the room was tiny. The Balcony was roughly three feet wide and had a view directly overlooking the smoking area, meaning there was no privacy and there was a constant smell of smoke. The bed was rock hard and my 9 year old daughters extra bed was nothing more than a chair with a couple of cushions. When we asked to move rooms the receptionist was shocked we wanted to moved and commented "why you want to move? Our other rooms are much worse!" So having been completely deflated by the room and no chance of moving, we decided to stick it out. It has great reviews so it all cant be bad. The public areas must be fantastic and make up for the disappointing rooms.

WRONG!

The restaurant alternated themed buffet nights. To be honest the food was that poor I couldn't really tell what was what. The BBQ could have been Italian and the Cypriot themed food could have been Carvery. Everything tasted the same and it was the same old hashed up bland food every night.

Apart from the "jumping the lilo whilst being completely sozzled competition" the pool area was nothing special, so off for a trip down to the sea to witness the "Crystal Springs".

The Crystal Springs bay is more like Blackpool beach. Litter everywhere and the sand is more like a mixture of sand and mud. The sea was filthy and the sea bed was littered with huge spiky rocks so it was impossible for anyone to enjoy a relaxing wade. The only saving grace was that it is possible to swim approximately one mile out to sea.

So time to explore the local area on foot. We walked out of the hotel onto a dusty a dirty track straight onto a main road. Protaras town centre is a few miles to the south, but don't bother walking it as the pavement disappears 500m from the hotel.

The evening entertainment consisted of third rate amateurs masquerading as entertainers. The highlight of the holiday for us was when two stray German Shepard dogs came into the bar area (probably to see what the racket was) only for the the Michael Jackson impersonator to chase them Benny Hill style across the hotel gardens only for the dogs to return minus the impersonator! Fantastic entertainment. Bravo!

If I could take any positives from our "experience" at the Crusty Springs it would be the fact that it has a nice gift shop (although I'm not sure if they are related) and the bathroom was nice, when it worked. On our second night we had NO running water in our room. Not only that the whole hotel had no water meaning lots of irate guests as none of the toilets worked and some of the restaurant and bar facilities were restricted which meant they couldn't water down our cheap all inclusive plastic cup served alcoholic drinks. It was particularly interesting when the hotel management came out and reprimanded the Hungarian "entertainment" girl for not entertaining in full view of all the guests. Very professional.

Anyway, the water problem was cured the next day and it was only then I noticed all other properties in the area had water storage tanks on the roof (apart from Crusty Springs). Take note hotel management - it's called having a contingency plan and keeping your guests happy.

Would I stay here again. Never. If you want a good four star in Protaras then I would highly recommend the Sunrise Beach Hotel. Compared to that place I would give the Crystal Spring a one star and even that would be quite generous.

I would also welcome a reply from the hotel management to address my concerns. Your website declares "Best hotel in Protaras". Put your money where your mouth is and explain away.

We are truly sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your stay with us last year and thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns.
The room you were allocated overlooks the bar’s open-air veranda and as such, you are right that there are some smokers that use it, although it is not a designated smokers area and we will make sure – as from today – that smoking near the room in question will be prohibited unless it is within reasonable distance.
In regards to your issue with the beds, all of our mattresses are orthopaedic and are only a couple of years old, but everyone has their own personal preference so we apologise if you found the bed harder than the one you are used to. The bed that your daughter used is a standard single sofa-bed and it is standard practise in all – or at least most - hotels to have sofa-beds as an extra bed.
We were especially surprised to hear that you did not like the food or entertainment, as these are two areas in which we receive very positive comments in general. We have a different theme night every night and our food is freshly prepared for this theme. Our nightly entertainment consists of live music, magicians and the hotel animation team and is enjoyed by guests, as judged by the feedback we receive, but again, this is a matter of personal taste and we are sorry that it was not to your liking.
Regarding the beach, it does not belong to us and is daily cleaned both by the Paralimni Municipality as well as our own staff, and it is no coincidence that Cyprus has an official rating of 100% for its bathing sites (all the island’s beaches, including Crystal Springs' are listed as excellent: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22575544).
Finally, you are correct that there was an issue with the water for one day during your stay. I can assure you that this was a one-off occurrence and that we apologised to all guests at the time.
We constantly strive to provide our guests with a comfortable, pleasant and enjoyable stay and apologise that you felt the hotel did not fulfil this.
Once again, thank you for your review and we hope that one day we may have the priviledge of welcoming you back to Crystal Springs.

From walking into the hotel, we felt that we were going to have a special holiday. This little gem of a hotel is situated in the most picturesque area of Protaras. The private cove in front of the hotel has the most tranquil and clear waters of the Mediterannean. One hour into our stay we were down at the beach and the most relaxing feeling overcame us. The staff tended to all our needs in the most welcoming yet subtle manner. Our children were entertained continuously with activies and shows throughout our stay while we enjoyed the champagne, cocktails and sumptuous food. It's the private cove though that will bring back the fondest memories, with its majestic, tuquoise waters and its intimate privacy.

We deliberately chose this hotel because it was out of the town centre and had been given good reviews. We were not disappointed. The staff are superb always friendly and helpful. Our room which was large and kept very clean looked over the pools, the garden and the sea beyond. The garden was a picture with so many flowers on bloom and you could sit in the shade if you wanted to under trees. The pools are very well maintained and there is a poolside bar as well. The food was of a good quality.Whether it was because we are getting on in years neither of us enjoyed the background music or the entertainment that was provided each evening.

Room Tip: Choose a room on the higher floors with good views over the garden to the sea.

We stayed at the hotel from May 1st to May 7th. We are a family of 5 and stayed in one of the family suites. The room was absolutely beautiful and all the facilities were great. All the family suites are conveniently located at the bottom floor which gave us easy access to the pool. We stayed there as half board so we only visited the buffet lounge in the morning and nights but the food was just lovely with a variety of choices and even live cooking of omelettes and pancakes in the mornings. The location of the hotel is perfect and when you sat by the pool you were overlooking the beach as it was literally a 10 second walk from the hotel. All of the staff were amazing and couldn't help enough. We asked the lady at public relations department for a bus timetable and some other information and she was more than happy to help. The cleaning was very impressive, and the rooms were cleaned every day. The maid visited in the daytime to make the beds, clean the bathroom, refresh things like shampoo and conditioner and change the towels, and she would then visit again around 5pm after we had showers to clean the bathroom and change the towels again! We also had a free plate of fresh fruit & champagne on arrival which was great of the hotel to do. We will definitely go back again.
