Just got back from 11 nights with my wife and two children (11 &14). I must admit to being very worried about my visit to the Anastasia apartments due to the very mixed bag of reviews. Thankfully we had a good time.
We stayed in the apartments which were quite spacious for 4 people. There was a decent fridge and was very clean and well presented albeit quite basic. The beds in the main bedroom were reasonably comfortable but I have to admit that the sofa beds were terrible. The rooms were cleaned every day and the towels were changed. We requested a room looking over the water park which we got and it was nice and quite at night. There was a few occasions when the reception decided to play loud music late at night and early in the morning but after speaking to them the happily turned it off. The air con in the room was really good much to the happiness of my wife(something to do with being able to put on makeup).
The staff were very polite and I have to give a special mention to the staff who worked in the dining areas who worked tirelessly. The water park was good fun but access to it could be a little easier in that it is connected to the main hotel and apartments but you have to walk down the side of the hotel to get to it(minor irritation). The main swimming pool is quite small and when aqua aerobics & volleyball are going on it doesn’t leave much room. We didn’t have any problems with sun loungers but I suppose the earlier you get up, the better the position you got.
Entertainment – not a lot to say about this. The area where the entertainment takes place each evening is so small that unless you are prepared to get a seat at 7pm and stay there all night you have no hope. We didn’t fancy sitting around all night so took a stroll on the sea front which has a path which leads down to the town center. It is about a 15min walk which we didn’t mind.
The food... breakfast is OK, quite a lot to choose from fruit, egg, sausage, pan cakes etc. (Bacon is not the type of bacon you would expect in the UK). Mid morning snacks – very basic and very limited choice. If you like chips & pizza your OK. If you want something else, you are out of luck. Lunch is again very limited in choice (from a main perspective). Chips, Pizza, chicken nuggets, pasta (for the love of God – I don’t want pizza & chips on holiday!!) There was the odd Cypriot dish which I have to admit was nice. The village salad was really nice and the dips where also nice. Dinner – again, very limited in choice but some of what they did have was ok. There were themed nights Italian, Cyprus etc with guess what..... Chips/Chicken Nuggets/Pasta/Fish Fingers..... After 5 days we couldn’t handle evening meals anymore so we decided to go out and eat at the local restaurants and have some traditional Cypriot food – great move. Food was really good and very reasonably priced. I know this goes against the idea of going all inclusive but I wasn’t going to allow my digestive system to be assaulted any further.
Drinks where OK, didn’t drink any alcohol so can’t comment .
This whole Russian rudeness thing I didn’t see. The Russians that where there seemed perfectly polite to me. The chain smoking, beer guzzerling Brits on the other hand... have some respect for yourselves. I cannot understand how drinking beer at 10am and smoking in front of your kids is a good idea? Clearly this is not everyone, but there was quite a lot if people in this category.
Overall the Anastasia apartments are OK, food is a big part of our family holiday and we felt that food was poor compared to other similar hotels I have stayed in.
