“Gone downhill very badly”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2012 via mobile

This is our 3rd time to Protaras and 2nd time at constantinos. Hotel is now very poor. 3 star would be a fair rating. Mr tsokkos is not spending any money on this hotel and it shows. Even staff saying to us how the standards have dropped. Food is now very limited with not much choice and no seafood like previous years. The pool area is a mess. Most of the lights in the pool don't work and are actually hanging of under water with cables and stuff hanging. We told staff this but they don't care and a young boy cut his foot open very badly even after many people had said about this problem, then shock horror no one could find a first aid kit and no staff basically new what to do!! There was a large pool of blood on the side of the pool and this was not cleaned for about an hour!! Even then it was just swept into the pool!! Disgusting. Sunbed situation is stupid as towels put out in the middle of the night and the locals come in during the day and take over the pool free of charge!! Definitely not going back and will go to the far superior hotels on the beach which like the sunrise or capo bay.

Myself and my partner stayed here from 18th July - 25th July 2012, half board, inland view room (we could see the sea on the right of us) booked through Thomas Cook.
Upon arrival (22:45) we were welcomed and given our room key (room 118) plus a voucher for lunch the next day, as we had missed dinner. This wasn’t expected and we were grateful. When we got to our room I was initially happy and delighted with the décor etc. until I noticed a few scrapes and imperfections on the walls & curtains. The furniture was stiff and in need of some grease! Nothing was enough to disgust me. They supply you with slippers and toiletries which I suppose helps get the 5* rating. I stay in mostly 5* business hotels so wasn’t sure what to expect from a holiday hotel. Unfortunately the 5* rating doesn’t reflect a free safe!! They charge €2.50 per day for use of that feature plus €2 per day for the fridge (if you want it stocked). I was pleased overall and had no real complaints throughout the holiday. On one occasion we had a big bug in our room, but to be honest it was actually really funny trying to get it out and we had a real giggle about it. Off course I wanted to call reception to come and sort it but my partner agreed to do it himself.  The staff there seemed friendly and happy to help. One guy helped us with our bags and chatted to us every day when we saw him which was a nice familiarity.

The pool area was very nice and during the week beds were readily available even when we came down late around 2pm. Weekends are not as good as available beds seem nonexistent. It took us about an hour to wait for a bed to free up. Now I know there were quite a few locals but I believed they were either staying at the hotel or at the nearby apartments, all part of Tsokkos. Greeks and Cypriots holiday too!!

The beach in front of the hotel was beautiful, clear water and plenty of room for your own towels and umbrellas. The showers and taps were in good working order too. I didn’t actually rent a bed for the day so unsure how much they charged. They also have a few booths along that parade for boat trips and activities.

The food at this hotel was very good. I must admit it is the best food I have had from a holiday hotel in Europe. The lunch seemed better than dinner because there seemed to be a lot more choice. We had dinner on two occasions and it was adequate and tasty, but I preferred the lunches. We tend to stay at the pool and have lunch and then venture out in the evening for dinner. As a half board booking you get breakfast and dinner, however should you wish to swap dinner for lunch all you need to do is get a voucher from reception and hand it to your wait staff. In our welcome paper work it didn’t state this, but said something along the lines of ‘be sure to tell your waiter’ so we were a little embarrassed when we sat to eat lunch on our second day and expected to produce a voucher. I then had to go to reception and get one mid way through my meal!
The pool bar offered a range of snacks and drinks and the drinks were of a reasonable price. I was flabbergasted when I was asked to pay €8 for two small ice creams!!! But we did and learnt our lesson!

The entertainment here was good. There was a team of 5 and they weren’t the usual pester pester reps. They asked once and didn’t ask again! They announced the games over the speaker a few times and left it at that. They did the usual aqua aerobics, water polo, table tennis and darts throughout the day as well as the evening entertainment which ended at 22:30 every night! The hotel next door (Odessa) had their entertainment till the early hours. So if you want a lively evening I would pop over there or hit the bars on the main strip which was a 3 minute walk up a small ramp. Some nice traditional restaurants there too as well as a Pizza Hut, McDonald’s and Costa. And of course the place was filled with little supermarkets and themed bars. The places we tended to visit most often were Costa and Rossos Bakery.

Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel to others wanting a relaxing peaceful time with the option to go out and party. I can officially say it’s one of the best holiday hotel I have stayed in so far. The Miramare Beach Hotel, Corfu (stayed June 2011) was the best due to its bungalow and beach 5 steps from our room!

We picked Cyprus to get married and were told by Thomas Cook it was the best of the best, wedding package looked perfect!! Upon check in, 6 of our party were checked into dirty, used rooms. It was after 7pm at night so this was unacceptable. In the rooms, wardrobe doors were hanging off, wallpaper and curtains also hanging off and as bride and groom we were not upgraded as promised and had a room with single beds!! We never received 6 out of the 10 things we paid for in the wedding package, and we were charged twice for our wedding reception venue!! Food was average and wedding flowers barely lasted s couple of hours before wilting. All inclusive didn't include coffees, bottled water, many soft drinks, snack bar food, crisps, ice cream or lollys. Never ever again will we revisit or travel with Thomas cook.

Initially our holiday was booked at the small hotel next door but was told, with a few days to go, it would not be open for our holiday so were reallocated to the Constantinos. As the cab pulled up and we saw the hotel and standard of the reception we were both very surprised and pleased. We had room 330 and apart from a small bubble in the wallpaper the room was very clean, neat and tidy. Throughout our stay the staff could not have been any more friendly and helpful. Food was plentiful throughout the day and breakfast had a large choice ( OK the cornflakes were not Kellogs but hey ho) Evening meal was a little dissapointing on a few evenings with not much to choose by way of a roast but there were lots of other choices ( bad vote, never found any pudding that we liked the taste of any evening). I have stayed in many hotels on business and holidays and this was up with some of the best for holiday makers in the Med. Yes there was a reasonable dress code for the evening meal, why not, its a formal meal, not a quick curry down your local after a few beers in the pub... Sadly there were the usual few that think, being all inclusive, they could act like some VIP or celeb and try to lord it over the staff like they were lackies or slaves....no doubt some of those will leave negative feedback here. Bottom line, we enjoyed our stay, will be going back this year and be looking forward to it.

Room Tip: Had no problems with noisy building work BUT we were there just before the full season started. Hea...

We arrived at this hotel on Wednesday 27th June checked in without a problem.
The room was spacious but we had to "fight" with the drawers and the wardrobe sliding doors which were in need of replacing or serious mainteance.
A safe is provided at a cost and a mini fridge is also provided free (ask reception for a key)
Having unpacked we decided to have a look around at the facilities and bumped into a guy from Glasgow who asked us what we were doing for our evening meal, stange question but I replied that we were eating in the dining room.
"You will be lucky" he said "they are all on strike" !!
When we checked in nobody on reception informed us that the majority of staff had walked out.
We went to the dining room that evening and a skeleton staff had cobbled together a meal of sorts that quiet frankly was inedible.
The staff did their best but it just wasn't good enough (burn't chicken wings, gammon that seemed to have changed colour and salad just thrown together and cheese that was sweating)
The following day staff returned but it was obvious that there was a staff shortage, different items kept running out on the buffet breakfast no cups for tea or coffee no glasses for juice.
This continued for a couple of days but gradually things got better.
The quality of the food improved as did the service and by the second week things were what you would expect from a Cypriot 5 star hotel ( these hotels are very seldom 5 star as we know it in the UK)
Several reviews have mentioned surly staff and there is a minority who are just that.
One staff member coming down the stairs insisted in keeping to the hand rail and my partner who is unsteady on her feet had to move out of HIS way!! who said the guest comes first??
Now it isn't all doom and gloom because the location is absolutely fantastic, you are right on the beach and the shops bars and restaurants are just minutes away, the hotel is clean and tidy and the food quality during the second week was of a good quality.
It is the little things that let this place down the buffet needs to be kept topped up as do the glasses and cups, spoons etc; Minor things but when you are trying to enjoy brakfast or dinner you don't want to be hunting around for a cup, spoon or glass.
The sun lounger situation was ok and towels are provided (refundable deposit of 5 euro's each)
If you get there before 9 am you have a good choice (may have changed now we are into the peak season) but at weekends as mentioned by others, locals get there before dawn and grab the best places so if you want a place at the weekend you need to be there with your towels before 8am!!

We spent two weeks at this hotel 1st July 2012 to 15 July 2012.Overall the hotel was great no complaints with regard to the food and location. The staff were fantastic particularly Elizabeth and the staff working in the beach front bar. However, the soft drinks served as mixers were almost always flat. The staff rectified this but it was a shame it kept happening. The pillows were like bricks. The Thomson Rep tried her best to sort all problems out. The beach was great and the pool area although small but was kept spotless. Unfortunately, the locals invaded the hotel at weekends and monopolized the pool area and even removed resident's towels from sunbeds which proved a problem, they also took over the beach front bar area leaving towels on the seats whilst they went to the beach. Sadly we had to leave the hotel every night after dinner because there was no entertainment and no facility to sit outside in the evenings. We were on an all inclusive basis. We have holidayed in several places in Cyprus on an all inclusive basis previously and it has never necessitated us leaving the hotel in the evenings. We will not be going back and quite a few people to whom we spoke during our visit said that although they had returned year after year to this hotel they would not be returning in the future as standards had, they felt, dropped. In our opinion this hotel is not a 5 star hotel, such a shame as the potential is there.

Room Tip: Don't bother paying for a sea view.

hi read a few reviews wasnt sure what to expect but hears my take on things hope it helps. We went with 2 adults 3 teenagers and a nine year old. The rooms were clean and bedding and towels changed everyday by a very friendly maid which nothing was ever to much trouble. air con was ok but could have been cooler. Right food well it was a bit hit and miss 1 of the bain marie was not working so food cold this was sorted after a couple of days not a lot of choice with the puddings or salads waiters and bar staff were pleasant for the amount of hours they put in although trousers were told to be worn my husband wore long shorts and this was fine. The pool area was clean with plenty of sunbeds apart from a Sunday when the locals took over. Entertainment was done with Thomas cook reps we did not book through this company but they treat all of us very well we had a quiz, darts, boules, table top games, water games everyday apart from a sunday. the evening entertainment was what it was 3 reps doing a fantastic job if you did not join in the fun then yes it could have been boring but Becca Ainsly and Becky all did a fantastic job. Overall we had a great holiday but agree not 4 star more like 3 star but this is cyprus.
