Constantinos the Great Beach Hotel
Ranked #22 of 65 Hotels in Protaras
Reviewed 14 June 2013

Never been to Cyprus in April before. Couldn't get our usual hotel as was still closed for winter season. The Constantinos boasts a 5* but it is not. Hotel very nice and room comfortable. Stay slightly spoilt by the building going on nearby which we were told nothing about. Good location on beach with easy access to the board walk. The big let down was the low standard, Luke warm food. We were half board but should have gone B&B as we ate out most of the time. Only entertainment was bingo on a couple of nights which thankfully we missed. Would only stay here again if there was nowhere else available. Will stick to October in future and our usual hotel; 3* and better.

We stayed last year and thought the hotel itself was in a perfect location. The food, staff, location, setting and service were great and certainly worthy of the 5*. However the rooms and entertainment were more like a 3*. Would go back but perhaps not wanting to pay quite as much unless there had been a refurbishment and some better entertainment in the evenings.

We have just got back from this hotel. We were put in here because our original hotel was still closed. We had a sea view on the mezzine level. the staff were very friendly. It was clean and the food selection at meal times was very good. We stayed half board. If we needed any thing like extra pillow etc. it was done straight away. I. posted two postcards in reception for the grandchildren so its a shame they still have not arrived. We would recommend this hotel but would not say it was 5*

Room Tip: Our room was clean and spacious, side sea view. We overlooked the building site, but it was entertai...

Beautiful place, great location right on the beach. Plenty of sunbeds, lovely pool. Room very nice but not 5 star standard. No entertainment at all in the evening. Biggest problem is the all inclusive choice, cannot get a nice cup of tea or coffee, from machine and is awful. At the pool bar you have to pay 1.5 euro for bottle of water, also 4 euro for slushpuppy or fresh squeezed orange juice. These are normally included with all inclusive especially with the star rating and what you pay for your stay there. The only meals we ate were the breakfast which was the usual all inclusive choice, but again no decent tea or coffee. The hotel was very clean, most staff very nice and helpful but the facilities are lacking and it is certainly not 5 star, must be paying for the location. On the whole enjoyed the hoilday very much, wonderful surroundings and beach, also pool but had to go out to eat or get a cup of coffee or buy bottled water from elsewhere.

Room Tip: We had side sea view room, lovely view.

We booked in around 8.30pm given room keys no food on offer! The rooms were dated no too bad. Next morning looking out a building site, which was not too bad except for the dust! went for breakfast the food was poor cooked breakfast just warm, this was how most of the day went Lunch and evenings meals were just warm, after complaining they had temperature thermometers out and they up the temperature in the buffet counter. The choice of food was not 5* very little to tempt you.
The location is great , there was no entertainment!! we stayed two weeks enjoyed Cyprus but not the hotel!!

My wife and I ,along with our middle aged daughter, are regular visitors to this hotel. You get what it says in the brochure,a beach side hotel with nice views, ample sunbeds in a well maintained grassed and pool area a few yards from the beach.A traditional hotel with clean and sufficiently large rooms. The main advantage is the pleasant atmosphere, which is thanks to the Cypriot staff, from the Booking manager (Andreas Maifoshis),Restaurant manager (Solomous),Reception staff(Anna etc) ,Porter(Elias)and the Maitre de (Mario) and staff who always acknowledge you and ask "Is everything all right?, is there anything you need?" The bar staff are always efficient and friendly especially Peter and Andrew. The food is cosmopolitan and gives you a chance to sample other than regular British food with lots of variety. As usual we totally enjoyed our stay and will again return in September. Many thanks to the Management and staff who made this a pleasurable holiday.

Room Tip: Poolside are quiet thanks to the closure of the Ghetto bar. Odessa side if you like sun on the balco...

This is an honest review of our stay. I tend to take a balanced view & ignore the pictures of broken tiles etc that people post when booking a hotel & checking the reviews so here is mine.

The good bits
Good location on beach. Lovely looking hotel & communal areas although dated, actually quite classic & suits hotel. Staff friendly. Good selection for breakfast. Beautiful restaurant for dining-strictly trousers or jeans, no shorts I'm afraid! Lovely pool.

The bad bits

Sun loungers old & uncomfortable. All of the other tsokkos hotels along the seafront have been refurbed & swish new sun loungers too. Surely this being their top hotel (mr tsokkos keeps an apartment here for himself) would be provided with new sun loungers?

Rooms 'cheaply' refurbished which is a shame. Wardrobe doors constantly falling off which ISP dangerous with an 18 month old! Patio door kept getting dislodged & trouble shutting. Leaking fridge. I was given a soiled cot bead (it had been wiped but large brown stain, disgusting). I did complain & got given new sheets! I complained again & after it was replaced the receptionist told me that the housekeeper agreed it was horrible! Why was is being used? Very poor. My wardrobe doors were put right but fell off again straight away, same with the patio doors. I did request about the wardrobe doors being out right again, but gave up when they didn't come to fix it. Nothing was done about the leaking fridge, which is minor but would expect more from a 4-5 star hotel.

View of a building site :-/. A nightmare drying my little girls clothes getting covered in dust!

Entertainment poor. The team were lovely & tried but they were situated in a small room on the ground floor. The bar was up a flight of stairs with no service to the lower floor. Nowhere really to sit outside part from near the entrance a few chairs and a small small balcony off the main restaurant. I enjoy sitting outside when the weather is nice & if I had known this upfront, I would of avoided this hotel. We stayed at the Odessa in oct 2012 & they had lots of outside space in the evening and entertainment outside near the pool with a bar, which is what u would normally expect. Hotel 80% Russian guests so may put some people off.

Food ok. Sometimes it was cold straight out of the kitchen? Lots of salad, a few fruit options & plenty of sweets. Sometimes dinner was a bit repetitive. They did have a different joint of meat each night which was really lovely.

Frequently tables outside of poolside restaurant full of old plates & had to get our own cutlery nearly every day at breakfast & lunch. Minor, but expected a bit better really.

On our day of pick up, we went to the restaurant at 12 to grab a bite also for my little girl who was hungry & the restaurant manager told us we could not eat until 12.30 even tho there was fresh food there we could of eaten. We waited until 12:30 when my little girl started crying she was soo hungry. We quickly grabbed some food then our coach turned up early. We booked with first choice who state that snacks are available between mealtimes although it appeared that it would depend what time you want a snack. This gave us our last memory of the hotel.

I had a lovely holiday with family & would normally say I would return to most hotels I have stayed at, even tho they always seem to have mixed reviews on trip advisor! This hotel for me was a disappointment. I had higher expectations & to be honest, I think it is a pleasant 3 star hotel in a fantastic location not 4*plus rated by first choice.

We paid over £10k for a holiday here for 8 plus my little one & feel we could of got better accommodation for our money.
