“Excellent family hotel”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

We live in Limassol but often enjoy seeing the different landscape of Protaras and Paphos. On this long weekend we came with 3 adults and two children and rented a 2 room suite at Malama. It was great. First, I should note that the 2 room suites have "mountain views" but the real advantage is that they are not close to the pool and therefore are quiet. Facing the sea is actually a bit noisy for our tastes (having children that need to sleep). Second, the 2 room suites are essentially 2 bed, 2 bath apartments--so they are very comfortable. We were also impressed with how clean the suite is. Our children have dust allergies so we often expect to ask housekeeping to clean a second time with a vacuum, but not here. Regarding the facilities, the children's facilities are great. The fitness and sauna are terrible. They are obviously in need or in process of being updated but are essentially unusable at present. Furthermore, the charges for sauna (10 euros/visit) are unreasonable, as it should be 5 euros. Lastly, internet should be free. In terms of food, we found it acceptable. One morning they were squeezing fresh juice, but the man doing so was insisting that we take the juice from containers that had been squeezed and refrigerated the night before. The same with waffles the next day. He insisted on giving us cold ones instead of those made by the grill. If you are coming from the UK, US or Europe (I am from the US) and you are accustomed to packaged food, then this is okay, but we live in Cyprus where the natural food quality is second only to Kenya or Uganda (where the soil is volcanic). Otherwise this is a great hotel!

Room Tip: If you have a family, choose a mountain view room as it is quieter.

Beautiful spotlessly clean apartment.
The apartments are one bedroom and two bedroom one bedroom would really only be suitable for two adults and two small children as the sleeping accommodation in the living room is 2 narrow sofa style beds. You can request the main bedroom for a double bed which is highly recommended.
Lovely helpful staff and good animation team. Tried yoga for the first time a good laugh and quite relaxing.
Ideal for families with small children who want a safe environment and for those looking for a quiet restful location.
We went self catering, although this resort is predominantly all-inclusive.
There are a few restaurants nearby particularly Captain Karas and a few other reasonably good restaurant which are a few minutes walk away.
Good bus service to Protaras, Ayia Napa and Paralimni for those who like to party!

The Malama is very clean with friendly staff, spacious rooms, good food, great pools and plenty of sun beds. In my opinion ideal for families with children under 12 but couples and teenagers need to look elsewhere for entertainment. I spent a week there over Easter with friends who had children and the indoor bar was just too small, especially when it rained and the small outside area couldn't be used; all the children's entertainment was in this bar (there was no separate area for adults) and went on quite late. However, once the outside pool bar is open in the summer this problem would probably be solved. Not a lot in local area but there is a bus stop 10/15 mins walk away for a trip to Protaras and Aya Napa at a cost of 1.50 euros.

We spend hier a lovely one week. The location is nice, because the hotel is a bit higher level than the sea, so there is a wonderful view from over the beach. We liked, that this is one of the last hotel befor the turkish border, so we could make nice excursions on the coast. The room was quite big and clean. The staff is friendly and generally exellent. (Our favorite was Vidas form the show kitchen) When we arrived, late night, the dinner was over. But in the fridge waited us some food: sandwiches with some vegetables. During our stay was my birthday. On this day I got a greeting card and a glas wine! Thank you! And the greatest: the food! Everything are fresh and tasty, and the dinners were really fantastic! I loved the seafood, but the other local food and the salads were very good as well!
(If I want to tell some wrong... the apartmants main door closes only with a big noise...)
We enjoyed our stay here, I hope we can return sometime!

The Malama beach is a very nice complex that offers good sized, clean basic rooms. The reception was very helpful (we did have a hitch with our first night booking and it was dealt with nicely but it was not their error). Our beds were quite narrow twin (not double) but comfortable - ask if you want double. The kitchen and seating area was a good size but the dining area was plastic furniture .... not a problem but not quality. The room was clean and kept clean every day except holidays (8 out of 10 as we were there Easter with clean towels and sheets on these days. The food in the eating area was VERY good especially if you ate when it first opened and was especially hot and fresh. Varied too. The desserts were poor. However, as it is self serve it is like eating in a canteen rather than a restaurant though the really lovely staff cleared your plates and provided beer and wine and water (we were all inclusive) which was not to my taste as far as quality drinks go. The all inclusive drinks offered were limited and only local beer wine and spirits - we in fact went and bought our own as we found the wine harsh and the beer was not to our liking - but others did like it. Ice cream only available to children under 12 though when they went to fetch several a day no one queried it. They charged for the use of the safe in the rooms - poor - and they started to charge for the wi-fi after we had been there several days - as the season took off I assume - and the charges were very high. E2.50 per hour and then the weekly and 14 day charge was really too high I believe about 25 - 45 euros charge. Get a data roaming package from your provider before you go and it may be cheaper! The pool and the surrounding area is immaculate and perfect for families and young children - not too deep. The entertainment staff rousing you to go to yoga and play games were lovely and enthusiastic - if not my cup of vodka - you could have good fun if that is what you are looking for. They had also just started to charge for the sunbeds and umbrellas on the beach as we left - it is a small cove that has a lovely blue sea and a small hut offering water rides/jet skis/boat rides etc..
We avoided the bar at night as it was geared to families and children - yes! The birdie song ..... aaarrrggggghhhh!! The location of the village was also a little bit quiet but the main road a few minutes away did offer a few bars, shops. off licence, childrens play area (6 euros for as long as they like, conveniently next to Tony's bar who owns both!!) A bus stop can take you to the busier Protaras and Paralimini town is a lovely not so commercial shopping area. We found the taxi's very reasonable too. 10 euros to Protaras offers you lots of lively bars shops ice creams mini golf and Fig Tree bay. The cost of food here is good as it is very competitive and was good. We hired a car for a few days for 27 euros a day and Cyprus was worth a look, they drive on the UK side but the fuel is as expensive. I thoroughly enjoyed my holiday and if you have a family and want sun sea pool and quiet - ish then I would recommend this holiday venue. P.S. The indoor pool is also a novelty and a great back up when it is raining or too hot - but quite small. I did not use the spa but looks really clean and lovely. All the staff were friendly and very good.

Room Tip: The sea views are lovely but not essential. A room near either the pool or the centre is better but...

We travelled here as a party of four friends at the end of Apirl to stay in the two bedroom time-share apartment which we bought in 2002. Although we have stayed at Malama since 2002 this was the first time we had stayed in our actual time-share apartment.

Malama is situated in Paralimni - just North of Protaras where there is - during the season - plenty of nightlife. A taxi to Protaras cost us €25 each way. It could though be considered that Malama Holiday Village and Paralimni are a little remote from other facilities and a car really is useful. Although the complex is beginning to feel a little "tired" the facilities for families are still first rate. The playground; kids club; organised activities throughout the day and the pools all provide just what the children want - lots of fun.

The restaurant can feel very crowded at peak times but I expect that feeling would ease once all of the outside space (in slightly warmer weather) is being utilised. There are a few restaurants nearby (Tonys and Karas to name two) and they both provide a very good alternative to eating on site.

The beach at Malama is great and very safe for children with sunbeds/parasols being provided (at a charge) by the municipal council.

We found that hiring a car at Larnaca airport for a week (a Ford Fiesta) was only just slightly more expensive that getting a taxi to and from the resort with the added benefit of having it available should you wish to go out and explore.

In summary Malama Holiday Village is great for families but a car really is essential if you don't want to spend your whole holiday in the complex.

Room Tip: Most rooms have a garden view. Ask early on if you would like one with a sea view. There aren't...
