“Terrible Hotel!”
Reviewed 23 June 2012

My Partner and I returned from the Antigoni Hotel 20/06/12 very disappointed.

As soon as we arrived at the Antigoni, we could see how shabby it was on the inside, starting with the corridors, doors and the room being very outdated and tired.

I had hoped that the disappointment would stop there but unfortunately it didnt.

We first used the restaurant about 7pm which was like entering a school canteen with minimal choice for food and very strange combinations, one being hotdogs in red wine sauce and onions. Just looking at this meal made us feel sick!
Our first meal involved my Partner having an ant in his food to which he pointed this out to the Waiter who looked at it and smiled and walked away. We were shocked!
Some dripping in fat and cold when it shouldnt be.

The breakfast wasnt any better as sausages giving off a horrible flavour and cold.
I dont even know where to start with the coffee. Certainly a flavour I have never experienced.

The lunch included an omelette prepared freshly but unfortunately the frying pan was so old it required lots of oiling which resulted in many people having to mop up fat from around there plate with a napkin.

The snacks were barely non existant. Our first being a burger, but the rolls had been out for so long they were very hard and certainly not edible.

The drinks were very watered down. My partner ordered a black Russian, only to be given a pint of coke with maybe a little splash of something alcoholic in there, to which he couldnt finish so this had to be washed down the sink in the hotel loo.

As the food and drink were unbearable we spent alot of our money on eating and drinking out.
Thinking this to be a holiday with most food and drink catered for, this was not the case!

We did notice also the uneasyness of this hotel and alot of the time the atmosphere was taken over with the staff being shouted at by the Management.
I remember sitting round the bar with many silent holiday makers around me just staring at the Manager maoning at the bar staff. Not very nice at all.
I had also asked one of the very inexperienced bar staff for a coffee. I dont know what he gave me but it certainly wasnt coffee. This tasted like dirty dish water!

The only Positive for this hotel was the large lagoon pool and thats about it.

I can see that this hotel probably just gets by with the big pool and im amazed to see that it has a rating of 3star plus.

My Partner and I have stayed at the Tsokkos Beach Hotel and the Tsokkos Gardens Hotel in the last 4 years, All Incuslive and loved both of these holidays rating Tsokkos highly but we are very shocked and feel very let down by Tsokkos this year and will definately not be returning to any of there hotels in the future. In fact this has put us off All inclusive completely and will look to go self catering next year!

We dont only feel let down by Tsokkos, but First Choice too for advertising this hotel as a 3Star plus and leading people to believe this is something it isnt.
My partner and I have saved all year for this holiday which has negatives by far out weighing the positives and we feel very disappointed!

This hotel is a typical past it's sell by date hotel living on past glory. The hotel is in dire need of investment to match the ratings it seems to have. The hotel is still decorated as it was in the late 90,s when it was an award winning Thomson Gold flag ship but oh how the mighty have fallen. The staff are all young untrained people that seem to be having to learn as they go with the exception of the odd one they wouldn't know customer service if it hit them between the eyes. The rooms are very very tired looking and I am afraid not the cleanest. The pool area does not even have enough brollies per old and dated sun beds that are like lying on a bed of nails as have no cushioning. The patio slabs around the pool are an accident waiting to happen with broken and badly repaired tiles. As an all inclusive customer was amazed to find that although displaying Cyprus's most famous local brew as stated on the pump(Keo) this is not local so consequently not part of the all inclusive deal ? To say the spirits and soft drinks are watered down is an understatement as you can virtually see the level of the Pool dropping as they pour a lemonade. The poor events co-ordinator is working on a shoe string with around 2 CD,s to play all day everyday. The evening entertainment that is advertised is nothing short of a joke with no outside performers in the whole 12 days we were there. The highlight was a game of bingo at an extortionate charge of €8 per game yes €8 ! The food is very repetitive and bland but luckily some excellent restaurants very close bye which defeats the object of going all inclusive. All in all I would not recommend this hotel to my own worst enemy and am sat here eagerly awaiting a response from my tour operator First Choice that should be living in fear of being prosecuted under the Trade Descriptions Act. Hope this helps many of you not wasting your money.

Cyprus is a wonderful holiday destination. The Antigoni in Protaras is not.

We have stayed in Tsokkos Hotels the last two times we have visited this beautiful island and after this experience we wont trust the company again.

The staff look like they have given up. Every day we saw them getting grief from the management in front of all the guests, so perhaps who can blame them ?

Do not believe any positive comments regarding the food. It is awful. Yes, some of it looked edible. Some of it looked like the worst food I have ever seen served up anywhere.

The beer served was terrible, god only knows where they buy the spirits from, and don't drink the coffee.

Tsokkos Hotels are letting this place rot, and so they should. Just remember to bury it because it already stinks.

i came to this hotel in may 2012. absolutely amazing.
the rooms ar lovely, we had a sea view room with two single beds. was nice and had enough space. the cleaners did a brilliant job, as me and my boyfriend are really messy people :)

the bar staff were very friendly especially george and alex. they spoke to us all the time. the drinks here were lovely, got drunk most nights! hahahaha :))
especially the alex speciaals!

the enetertainment here was fantastic!! cant fault it. amanda the entertainer was brilliant. everyday she never stopped! first thing in the morning she was there starting with aqua gym, the this funny game with the tennis balls, water polo and darts and sometimes she did water ping pong which was hilarious!!
on the night time she had a different show every night muysic quizzes, dance shows, parrot shows, kareoke, and this really funny one with boys and girls and they made stupid games!
cant fault the entertainment.
there was also a women who made massarges, her name was nona i think, my boyfriend had a back back and she helped him, which was fantastic, she also helped amanda on the night with bingo and the shows. she spoke russian i think. lovely lady

the one thing i would like to say a bad thing about is the food. it could be better..it wasnt as bad as people are saying on here, but could be a little better.

overall we had a fantastic holiday !! :))
would definately come back!
thank you antigoni hotel

Very basic room, hard beds for adults and camp beds for children. Food mainly OK although limited choice. Drinks were local Leon beer and local spirits served by the rudest bar manager ever, seemed to not want to serve you and when he did he occasionally slammed the drinks down - he also took cash for the non all inclusive ice creams and crisps even though it is supposed to be a cashless hotel. We booked our room on the last day until 6pm only for the maid to come in and change the matresses at 3pm in the afternoon whilst we were trying to pack and shower! Dire entertainment every evening - although we were all inclusive, we were out most nights for a meal and drinks. Big pool and plenty of sunbeds. Overall, would not go back to this hotel but Protaras is a lovely place and will definitely go back there on a self catering/ b&b basis at a different hotel!

I've just read through some negative reports and I'm sure we must have stayed at different hotels - we have just returned from a week at the Antigoni, yes it's basic and in need of an upgrade but it's clean. The majority of the staff are really nice, especially Alex and Eva, true there are a few that need a personality injection but on the whole the staff are pretty good. Amanda does a good job of rallying everyone around for the entertainment in the pool during the day, in the evening it's a bit of a let down but hey you can't have everything and the main strip of Protaras is a two minute walk away. The food was very good - the melon, honey and Greek yoghurt in the morning was wonderful as was the cooked options. The lunchtime and evening buffets were very good too, I'm unbelievably fussy with food and it suited me fine. We will defintely be returning to the Antigoni next year.
