“Fantastic! Going back next year!”
Reviewed 14 October 2010

Stayed at the Chrystalla for a week's B&B at the end of September and loved it! The location - moments away from the beach and the strip - is perfect. The room was basic, but as we only used it for sleeping it had everything we needed (the bed was really comfortable!), was cleaned daily, had efficient air-con, a small but handy balcony with a table and two chairs, and the bathroom was spotless and always had loads of hot water for showers/baths. The staff were friendly and helpful and welcoming. The pool area was fab too. We spent as much time there as on the beach - and given that the temps were in the mid-to-high 30s all week we really needed that pool! Plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas available, a very helpful girl serving in the pool bar, and plenty of room to swim in a gorgeous free-form pool. Perfect. Sadly (!) after sampling the nightly delights of the strip we never woke up early enough for breakfast in the hotel despite it being served until a civilised 10 a.m. but everyone we spoke to said the food was great. We breakfasted (lunched???) every morning at La Pas just a few yards up the road on the edge of the strip instead - best holiday breakfast we've ever had! This was our first visit to Cyprus and as we're young-at-heart 40-somethings who love nightlife but not wall-to-wall rowdy-kids-on-the-booze-and-up-for a fight we were slightly worried that the Chrystalla/Protarus might be too lively/noisy for us - but no. The hotel was a haven of tranquility just moments away from all the oh-so-safe-and-friendly bars/restaurants Protarus has to offer. Can't recommend the Chrystalla highly enough and we're definitely going back next year.

Lovedthe chrystalla and would stay again. So close to beach and nightlife it's the perfect place to stay for a young couple! The food at breakfast gets a bit boring after the first week but it would anywhere you stayed. The pool is lovely and we spent as much time there as we did at the beach, even though I'm usually a beach person!! Prices at the pool bar weren't too bad, probabaly about the same as going out for lunch. Fig tree bay beach is beautiful, the water is so warm! The weather when we was there (1st-15th September) was great, nearing 40 everyday!! The nightlife is good with lots of bars and restaurants. The love boat bar is brilliant and do a good choice of cocktails!! Also, the square bar is good with all drinks being 2€ all night every night! Although, the welsh entertainer in there sometimes got a bit too much!!! I loved protaras and we are already thinking about going back! And don't be fooled into thinking cos it's the euro it's mega pricey cos it isn't!! Couldn't fault the hotel or protaras for that matter!! Loved every minute of the holiday!!

Where can I start with this vile hotel. This was my 5th visit to Protaras & we decided to go B&B this year instead of HB due to having a small child with us. We wanted somewhere close to Fig Tree Bay & also the nightlife, so The Chyrstalla seemed like the perfect place. The pictures that we had seen in the brouhure & on the internet looked beautiful (but how deceiving they were). We were on the 3rd floor room (316) is smelt disgusting, the hotel must have some sort of problem with the drains as we weren't the only people complaining of the smell (but the management couldn't care less). I was unable to bath my little girl due to the tap not been long enough to fill the bath therefore the water would just run onto the floor. We asked 3 times for this to be sorted or to be moved to another room, in the end the manager took a nut from out of our shower to make the shower more powerful & told us to fill the bath that way. Everytime we flushed the toilet it sounded like we had a jumbo jet in our room it was that loud. The light above our bed was hanging from the ceiling & the light on the wall above the bed was also unsafe. The cot they provided for my 1year old daughter to sleep in I wouldn't put my dog in, it was ripped the matteress wasn't level & the sheets were not changed in her cot for the full 2 weeks that we were there (it was a good job that I took my own). Our sheets were only changed once. The veranda (if you can call it that) was a manky as hell, the plaster was coming away from it and never sweeped up except the day that we were leaving. The pool area, well where do I start. The pool was ok but the sunbeds were a different story, you have to be up for at least 7am to be sure of getting a sunbed as there weren't enough for the people staying at the hotel, & again when you complained to the manager alls he did was give you sunbeds that were broke & I mean broke to the point of been dangerous, one day an old man was lying on his and it just give way. The pool bar doesnt open until 11am at the earliest & if your children want an ice cream then you have no chance because he never had any. The music around the pool area was that low it wasn't worth been on. There are also alot of Russians staying in this hotel & they are extremly rude people. The only postive note I can say about this hell hole was that the breakfast was very nice but again if you have a small child do not use the 2 highchairs that they have as they are filthy dirty & unsafe, you can't fasten your children in because there is nothing to fasten them in with therefore when I fed my daughter one ofus would feed her & the other would have to hold her in the chair because she actually did slide out from it twice. The resort of Protaras is gorgeous & I would recommend this resort to anyone but DO NOT stay at this hotel, there are alot more nicer hotels in this resort. This hotel is rated a 2 - 3 star but I would not give it a 1 star it needs condeming.

Just got back from a week B&B at Chrystalla - excellent location approx 50m to beach and nearest bar, right at the beginning of the strip. Accommodation was clean, fairly basic. Room cleaned everyday. Towels changed every time we put them in the bath (most days). Staff very helpful. Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day. Plenty of space to relax. I would say the walls between rooms were thin - sometimes could hear conversations in the next room - but this was rare. But we used the hotel to sleep in and spent all day out and about (or on the beach) I have no complaints :0) It may be considered basic but it is very clean and fit for purpose. Yes I would recommed this to others. As for eating out we tried the restaurants recommended on trip advisor - my favourite would be Nicolas Tavern - excellent tasty food (not for the faint hearted) you need to be hungry to eat here! My partner preferred Romeo's. But there is plenty of choice and you cant go wrong

Due to prior reviews on this hotel I was a bit apprehensive about my 2 week hol but I neednt have worried all 4 of us had a fantastic time.
Hotel itself is really clean and the staff are lovely and really helpful - special mention for George the owner and Cat a work experience girl from Lithuania. The pool area was always clean and tidy The pool was cleaned each morning as were the rooms. The rooms were a good size and clean and comfortable with a lovely sea view - however the balcony is a bit small - tho I am 6months pregnant so maybe I was a bit too big for balcony haha. The only downside would be that the towels have seen better days and could be softer but they were clean.
Location with this hotel is perfect - its a 1min stroll to fig tree bay beach to the right and and a 1 min stroll to the strip to the left - best place on the strip by far is fools and horses pub!
Eating out in protaras price wise is good value for money - for 4 people a 2 course meal and a drink would be roughly 50 euro in total. All the meals we had were lovely - especially the steaks.
We travelled with Olympic and the rep only came to the hotel when you phoned for him - I did this 3times to book various trips and the rep Martin always came out very quickly the same day.
Trips i would recommend would be the Lazy days boat trip on the Aphrodite2 the trip was extremely well laid out and the lunch they put on was lovely and the staff always had time for a chat and a laugh and joke with passengers.

On arrival (6am on thurs 8th july) we found that we had been given a double room - even though we have asked for a twin. When George, the manager arrived about 3 hours later, we were given a new room straight away. The rooms arent a bad size and the bathroon has a bath with a shower over it. Balconys are small but can seat 2 people. The Tv has only world news in english but, occasionally, you can catch an odd english film.
The rooms are cleaned daily, clean (but a tad tatty) towels are changed every other day. We stripped our bedding after 3 days and put it in the bath - the beds were then changed.
We had a rear room - most of the building work behind the hotel has now finished - the occassional drill or saw can be heard but no heavy machinery.
The pool area is tired and could use some new sunbeds ..... but it is lovely and quiet. Take a bid beach towel - the padding on the sunbeds gets very hot to the touch. Also - take flip flops to the pool - the floor around the pool is scorching in the midday sun.The pool bar is very expensive but the supermarket opposite the hotel is very reasonable and the people are lovely.
The food at the hotel is ok ........ if your not picky and you dont mind the same things day after day. Good idea to go B&B. The breakfast offers a full english or continental buffet. It is all well cooked and you can have as much tea, coffee and freshly squeezed (you squeeze it yourself) orange as you like. The evening meal leaves a bit to be desired but it is very cheap (we paid £24 per night - half board).
The hotel is a stones throw from Fig Tree Bay beach - gorgeous !! Gets very busy and there is a small charge to use the sunbeds and brollies. The hotel is ideally situated for nightlife and shops (very expensive clothes shops selling mostly fake goods)but quiet at night. We found (2x 30 sumthing females) that the town was very family orientated and, after 11pm, went very quiet.
Most bars do food and you can eat at least 2 course for about a tenner each. The Square Bar does 2euros a drink all night - cocktails included. Great atmosphere in Las Pas Bar. Bells bar seems to be the only place that plays loud music at night and people seem to assemle there for a boogie. Romeos does a Greek night with fab meze. Even chinese restaurants and Mcdonalds - you will not get stuck for places to eat.
A trip to Ayia Napa (approx 10 miles - 15 euros in a taxi) was a proper eye opener - no wonder young brits get a bad press abroad .......... it was bedlam !!! Avoid after midnite if you are over 21 haha.
The staff (apart from one girl with a constant long face) are very friendly and eager to help you.
Personally i liked this hotel - yes its tired and dated and needs a few quid spending on it but overall a pleasant stay. The air con is free and it is 2.1/2 euros a night to hire a fridge. Quick tip - take your key off the fob and leave th fob in the slot to ensure the air con stays on when your out. There arent alot on brits in the hotel - theres a proper mix on nationalities - so you might not make many friends.
Cyprus is just lovely and Protaras is the best bit. Feels soooooooo safe and the place is very clean.

Having read previous reviews I was very apprehensive at staying at this hotel, although some comments are correct ie towells need replacing the place generally need a good lick of paint, and also there were no ligh ts on the stairs.Staff were friendly and the rooms were cleaned every day.We had a sea view room which was nice but the balcony is on the small side. We booked this holiday through Olympic holidays we never saw a rep from the time we arrived to our departure.Would we stay at this hotel again?no we would not.
