We stayed here May 2013 as a group of 4 girls. The good point is the location is great and central to everything. However this is where the good points end. Grate in our bathroom stunk and filled with cement. The air conditioning when first turned on produced what can only be described as black sut, which covered the room completely as well as our clothes we just unpacked.
Surfaces were sticky (that's an understatement) and there were no bins our room to be found. When we asked for a sea view at reception, which was confirmed, we were greeted with a construction site and the sea view was only visible by craning your neck by leaning out of the balcony.
The maid didn't appear to change the sheet (or if she did they were replaced by dirties), Our shower gel was also stolen which we later saw on her trolley.
The stench of the foul bakery (which didn't appear to be open anyway) was overwhelming and unbearable when 'trying' to relax outside on top of the humidity.
If this wasn't bad enough, they then started to feed and attract the stray cats. Vile.
After all this, when you attempt to get clean in what can only be described as a prison shower, the shower did not work. It had to be held up with a bobble to secure it in place and when it was turned on, a steady trickle was all we could manage.
Don' stay here, we're going back but most certainly in a different facility.

Room Tip: Not the 'sea view'

We have just arrived back from the Astreas Beach Apts after an 11 night stay - 16th-27th Oct 2013.
We are a family with 2 children aged 10 and 1.
These apartments are in a fantastic location, a stones throw from the lovely Fig Tree Bay Beach and a few minutes walk to the main protaras strip.
We had a 1 bedroom apartment on the second floor with a side sea view, our balcony actually over looked the pool and had the sea view which was perfect.
On arrival at the apartments we were disappointed to discover that the on site bakery/mini market and restaurant/bar were closed as it is coming to the end of the season. We had specifically chosen these apartments over others for these facilities with having 2 young children.
The bakery/mini market had closed 2 weeks before we arrived.

There are 2 lifts in the accommodation.
The apartment was very spacious, basic but very clean. Maid service is every day with clean towels every other day and bedding changed every third day.
Self catering facilities were good, plenty of utensils and they provide washing up liquid, scourer and tea towels, which is a nice touch.
All staff were very friendly and helpful. We arranged a late checkout room for our last day at a cost of 30 euros until 6pm, well worth it!
Safety deposit boxes in room cost 2 euros per day plus 20 euro refundable deposit. Air con is in the bedroom only and quite expensive at 6 euros per day. We didn't use the air con as it was cool of an evening and if you have bedroom window open slightly there was a nice breeze.
Weather was fantastic, between 27-30c every day, few days were windy but still very hot.

The pool area was clean, plenty of sunloungers available at any time of day. The pool also has a swim up bar which would be welcome in the summer months, we did use the pool but it was ice cold! The main pool is quite deep and the childrens pool is only very small.

The beach is lovely, clean and clear blue waters. Plenty of watersports available on the beach too.
Local bus service is fantastic, buses are now modern and are very frequent and very cheap, so easy to get around. We also hired a car for a few days and found Windmills car hire on the strip to have the best prices.

Had lots of lovely meals out and would recommend anyone to try THE WELL INN AND STEENS both on the main road just past the end on the strip, for fantastic food, hospitality and excellent value for money.
Aphrodite boat trip from protaras pier was excellent 10 euros per adult and both kids went free, nice trip for just over 2 hours, visits the border of Famagusta, cape Greco and the blue lagoon for a swimming stop.

New walkway along the beach which goes from protaras right through to penera is excellent, especially with a pram. Perfect for long walks each day.

We would go back to these apartments at the right price and if all facilities were open.

I think these apartments would suit couples looking for a quiet stay in a fantastic location overlooking the beach.

Room Tip: worth paying extra for a side sea view, 2nd floor or higher have best views

These apartments are very basic and very clean. The location is the best part of it, it's literally right next to the wonderful fig tree bay. It's also only five minutes walk to the main strip of Protaras which is buzzing with plenty of bars , restaurants and supermarkets. The food on the strip was lovely with most places offering various 3 course set menu choices which was very good value and worked out cheaper than just having a main meal. The staff are welcoming and cheerful. My only few complaints are that the pool area is not as nice as described in the photos, It's very basic and the sunbeds are very basic. Unfortunately the hotel restaurant was closed and so was the bakery but then the strip is very close by so it wasn't a major problem. Also inside the apartments, the beds are very hard so they could do with investing in some better matresses. The rooms are immaculately clean though which is very important I think. The only other annoying thing was people in the room above moving furniture around late or early in the morning, not great when your trying to sleep. Why people feel the need to 'drag furniture around' beats me but it can be pretty annoying. I like to be considerate if I know that people are below me.Overall it was a great holiday and Cyprus is a beautiful holiday destination. I would stay here again. Hopefully they will invest in some better mattresses.

Room Tip: Choose a room on a high floor to avoid people dragging furniture around when your sleeping!!!

Location was fantastic, just off the edge of the main strip of bars, shops and restaurants but also just steps away from the beautiful beach.
All areas were clean and the staff were extremely accommodating.
The apartment itself had great space and an amazing view but was in dire need of a refurb. Drab and dated upholstery, bedding and curtains, broken tiles in the bathroom, really uncomfortable sofas and beds, hand painted chocolate brown kitchen cupboards. Luckily we did not pay €40 for the air conditioning as the unit was only in the bedroom.
Come on Astreas, bring your apartments into the 21st century.
