Astreas Beach Hotel Apartments
Ranked #54 of 64 Hotels in Protaras
Reviewed 1 June 2010

My family and I (8 adults and 9 children - aged 8 months to 72 years) spent a very enjoyable holiday at the Astreas Beach Appartments in Protaras. The accomodation was basic but all that you would need especially with young children, the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful.

We all booked B&B and enjoyed breakfast outside overlooking the swimming pool every morning - the food was fresh daily and more than most could eat. Also, there was a bakery / shop at the appartments and the food was 'to die for!' - if you enjoy fresh bakery food you will love this place, I could not believe the size of the croissants and doughnuts, nor the selection in the salad bar. The prices were more than reasonable and perfect for a snack in the middle of the day.

In the evenings we all went up the main street and there is an endless selection of restaurants and bars for evening snacks / meals. Most evenings we all has bar snacks which were very reasonably priced and a great selection to choose from to suit all ages. Everywhere was very child friendly, welcoming and although many had told us eating out in cyprus was expensive we found that it was not at all - You would pay more at home even considering the exchange rates on the Euro.

The pool area was again spotlessly clean with a pool bar, sun loungers and parasols - excellent facilities for all children with a baby pool, shallow pool area and a good size main pool with a swim up pool bar.

They are currently extending the main promenade along Fig Tree Bay right down in front of these appartments and I would love to return in the next couple of years to stay there again - I imagine with this work completed you would have unbelievable views over Fig Tree Bay and even better access to the beach. The beach is only a short walk down a pathway - 2 mins if even and the waters are crystal clean and the sandy beach is just beautiful.

We had all went on holiday together as my sister got married at the Sunrise Beach Hotel about half way along the bay and we could not have spent our week at any better place than Astreas as a family group.

I stayed in this hotel the year before too (see other review) and it was just as good this time as the last time. Location is fantastic (a must getting a sea view) and hotel has everything you need to enjoy your holiday.

I travelled with my partner and 2 year old daughter, the inlaws came too and they ensured we had rooms next to each other as requested and a very safe and clean travel cot for our daughter. The rooms very very spacious and child friendly, ours had a large bedroom and a kitchen diner with 2 large sofas in the living space, the balcony was a good size and we had a lovely beach/sea view. The room was cleaned every day and all of the staff we met were very very friendly. If you haven't been to this resort before with children you will find everyone very child friendly, most pubs/ restaurants have childrens safe play areas and good facilities such as high chairs and childrens menus, in fact in most places we didn't even pay for our daughter food or drinks. The Astreas overlooks Fig Tree Bay and the beach itself is gorgeous, the water is crystal clear and warm, the beach is clean and well maintained, you do need to be down there by 9-10ish to ensure you get a sun lounger which costs 7.50 euros for 2 loungers and a parasol for the day. There are lots of water sports for the adventurous, see crazyshark.com! We will definately be going back and would be happy to stay in the same hotel again, in fact the inlaws have been twice a year for the last 7 years and staff in their favourite restaurants and pubs remember them and treat them like royalty!

Location
Great - close to beach and nightlife, but not too close to suffer noise. Near to bus stops. Figtree Bay has beautiful clear torquoise shallow water. Very safe.
Appartments.
We - a couple, had a one bedroom appt designed for 4 people so had plenty of room. It was clean, well maintained, had daily maid service and linen changed regularly. Kitchenette had toaster, electric kettle, full cooker with oven. Full compliment of cutlery/crockery but only two large saucepans and a frying pan to cook in. In fairness though i daresay had we asked, smaller pots would have been provided.
Out and about
You may want to eat out all the time. Beware it's not cheap and the restaurants are typical holiday resort restaurants catering mainly for the Brits. You can try so called Greek Cypriot food - with chips of course. Catching the bus to Paralimni and shopping in the big supermarket there is well worth the bus fare. Meat, especially pork and beef, is cheaper than inUK. We eat in early and went out late.
I have no hesitation in recomending the Astreas Beach

Had a fantastic time, weather beautiful, great resort, didn't want to come home. Wished we'd gone for 2 weeks. Definately would go back, great for families and couples. Plenty of restaurants and bars, good entertainment. I definately recommend Romeo's Taverna for a traditional cypriot night out. Fig tree bay is gorgeous, crystal clear water and safe.
Apartments were basic but clean and in a great location, just round the corner from the nightlife. The staff were helpful and friendly.
Overall, loved it and will go back.

just arrived back from astreas beach, hotel has a fab location near to the beach, it sits along side the all inclusive hotels, not bad for self catering. fig tree beach has beautiful sand and crystal clear water. we had both pool and sea views. staff in the hotel very friendly and helpful. maid service daily, clean towels and sheets if needed. paid for both airconditioning and safety box. well worth the money. regular supply of toilet rolls, well equip for self catering, proper cooker not two rings. pool well kept and very clean. plenty of sunbeds and shades. pool bar fairly cheap. mr frinks food place ajoined to hotel good value, food great, best chips in protaras, home made. try the cyprus sandwich or the chicken wrap, large sandwiches. service from young bulgarian lass was excellent. hotel is in quiet end of the strip down a side road, nice pleasent walk every evening to bottom of strip and back. excellent bars and restaraunts. every type of food and drink anyone can want. best food nicolas taverna. best priced drinks bottom end of strip, they have longer happy hour, best pub la pas at the top of our road, adam and george own it. two friendly cypriots, their staff very socialable and attentive. all in all loved the place and weather. went to ayia napa for night out. taxi approx 13/15 euros, strolled around habour, had good food, and watch the young ones enjoying themselves. a bit of hassel off people trying to get you to come into their bars up near the bedrock and the square but just be firm and carry on walking if you don't want to go in them. troodos mountains pretty as a picture, worth the long ride.would i recommend this place? YES its been great.

Well priced... yes but the first thing that happens when you walk through the door is you lose £60.00 (or more if you convert that to sterling!) This is for the safe, television control and air conditioning 'rent'. This is not included when you book! At this point, yr so hot, you'll pay anything to cool down!

We arrived in the evening so we dealt with the night staff, friendly chap but knew nothing when it came to me asking him why my air conditioning was blowing out hot air?! I was told that its because the weather at the moment is so hot... I did laugh! The next day, the maintenance man came and realised that the compressor which is situated on the roof had a tripped fuse. Even with the air conditioning working, it is a very old system and the efficiency is low, very low. The fuse continued to trip throughout our stay and was very uncomfortable.

The apartment generally is a good size, but no frills! Its grim and dated. The bathroom is dark, literally dark, there is a single light on the wall above the mirror which is encased... frankly I consider that dangerous for anyone who wants a shower after 7pm. The shower itself is very low pressure, the water literally trickles out which is hardly refreshing and fails to release the sand from being at the beach earlier. Whats more, there is no need to lock the bathroom door as it gets wedged and you need someone from the other side to push it so you can get out.... I must mention the death trap, razor sharp tilting/slatted window and the tiled panel that kept falling off the bath.

The cleaner... is not a cleaner... shes a bed maker. The television may as well not be there, there is 1 channel in English with a bad signal. The internet station downstairs swallows your money, freezes then reboots, I failed to get my money back on this.

The staff appear to be friendly but no action was taken on any of my issues. Safe to say I wont be staying there again but please, make your own judgment....
