“Great holiday”
Reviewed 20 October 2012

We stayed at Tsokkas gardens a couple of times and watched this hotel being built,we decided then that it would be a lovely spot to stay. We came as a family, hubby, daughter, son in law and 2 grand daughters. We asked for a pool view room but was put into a rear view room,we were a little disappointed at first, but after the first night,we're glad we were put there. It was quiet, and actually more interesting to watch local life going on opposite, than music blaring around the pool!!Friendly staff and reps, our rooms were really nice, very clean, cleaning staff excellent. Always room around the pool, plenty of room and beds/ umbrellas, lovely grass area too facing the sea. Lots of good children's activities, which was enjoyed immensely. It's only a VERY short walk to the beach,my fave, good little cafes and cocktail bars for a nice lunchtime break, from all that chilling out by the sea!!! Cyprus is our most favourite holiday place. We always hire a car,but always do it ourselves and not thru the reps,it's so much cheaper, and good vehicles . Troodos area is always a day trip, Nicosia is a must go. Famagusta area, kyrenia and polis. We always take a trip to the donkey sanctuary, some of the villages in that area are fantastic, ask some of the English speaking locals, they will point you in right direction. Cape Greco a must too,you could spend a day just walking and swimming off the rocks, wonderful for snorkelling. Some lovely little coves all along this coast . Ayia Napa worth a visit, lovely harbour and great fish eateries, and nice beaches. Paphos a worthwhile but long drive. Protaras is our favourite place, everything you would want there, been there many times and we never tire of it . It's a tonic. We are planning a holiday next year yes in Protaras again, but may try another hotel. Forgot to say about the little cafe along the walkway from Protaras to pernera,it's wonderful, great food and very reasonable, and such friendly staff,AND we go away and come back 12/ 18mths later and we are welcomed like old friends.protaras has it all,go and enjoy

We were in the Rising Star Apartments facing the front of the hotel - this overlooks the fruit farm and not the sea. However, I expect this is the quieter side as the back of the hotel overlooks the pool and bar with its constant beat/dance/reggae music (see below).

The hotel is situated on the edge of the Protaras beach so you get VERY easy access to the beach as well as a decent (but cold) swimming pool. We went mid-October so the place was quiet and there were plenty of free sunbeds around the pool or in the gardens. Also, fairly quick to get into the town with all its amenities, restaurants, and shops. For cheap meals try the Bakery in Protaras which also has a salad bar - a decent take-out meal for 3.75 Euro!

Apartment had a twin-bed room with safe (€20 a week) and free, quiet aircon. Living area had bed-settee, 2 chairs, coffee tables, sink, fridge, kettle, toaster, 2-ring hob, and grill. We thought this was a microwave at first but never used it anyway. If you want the aircon in the living room you'll have to pay for it. Small balcony and minimal privacy from balcony next door.
The hotel now has WiFi, but not sure if this is free of you have to pay for access (didn't try using it).

Good points:
Staff are very helpful and friendly (especially Lucy - absolute gem).
The place is very clean with friendly and efficient cleaners.
The apartments have plenty of room for 2, but could be a bit cosy with more than that.
Grounds are spacious - lots of room to sunbathe in the garden.
Its situation is great for the beach without the crowds.
Easy access to supermarkets (5 mins) or town center (10 mins).
Free courtesy room for late fliers - although these are really just shower facilities - no comfort.
Breakfast - plenty of good choices though coffee used sterilized milk, not fresh milk.
No entertainment for kids - but as we don't have any we didn't care anyway.
Internet access available in the reception - €1 for 15 mins)

Bad points:
Music - endless beat/dance music in the food areas - even at breakfast! Considering most of the residents when we were there were 'older', felt like this was for the benefit of the staff more than the customers. Constantly looking for tables away from speakers!
No entertainment for kids - but as we don't have any we didn't care anyway.
TV - only 1 english-speaking channel (BBC World News) but TV never worked properly anyway. Old tube TV's with dodgy signals - not worth bothering with.
Quiet when we were there, but imagine the place could be quite noisy in busy periods.
Daytime meals were quite expensive and a bit boring - better to go into town.

If I ever go to Cyprus again I might use just the Rising Star again (especially if Lucy was still there!) as its well sited away from the main spread of hotels but still has extremely good access to the beach.
However - I'll never go to Cyprus again - that's another story...

I'll miss Lucy!

Room Tip: Apartments on the North side are probably quieter, but don't have a sea view.

We had booked the Narcissos hotel in Cape Greco for 10 nights but on arrival and a stay of one night decided that we had to look for some where else. So glad we did because we found this lovely place, the apartment was really spacious and clean and a view to die for , nice pool area , on the beach and very near to the strip in Protaris.
The staff were all nice and friendly especially Lucy......the blonde girl on reception. Mr Alex was very accomadating.
We had breakfast which was good value for money.
We will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: 434 is an apartment in the annexe which was very nice but spoke to people who had pool and sea view...

We have been coming here since 2007 apart from last year when we went to Turkey. We love this hotel especially my 10 year old son as in previous years there was plenty of activities for him with the Thomas Cook reps. We were surprised and disappointed to find it has all changed there is no activities there now and it was so boring for my son. We asked our rep Stu as to what has happened which he replied that there was only 30 British staying in the hotel (my son was the only British child there!!) and the rest were Russians and Scandinavians (sulky lot they were). It has always been the British hotel so what on earth has happen there I do not know but the hotel must be losing thousands as there was hardly anyone around the pool (we use to have to get up really early to get sunbeds!!) and staff standing around doing nothing. We got the feeling that the British not as welcome now and they are winning as we found out the resort is crawling with Russians who are not at all friendly.
To be fair the hotel was still spotless clean and the staff friendly with us as some were still there from previous years we just think it a shame as this hotel use to be full of laughter and fun Also pool bar excellent value as beer & lager just 2 euros and the view to the sea is super. It didn't stop us enjoying ourselves as we just went out to the beach. the water park which was great. The highlight was the Red Bus trips (one a village tour and the other Famagusta the ghost town taken over by the Turkish) which were excellent and people should use them if they are in Protaras. This will be our last trip to this hotel unless it brings back the British where we can have fun and laughter again.

Room Tip: We choose the front part of the hotel for our room which does not have the pool view as you get the...

Stayed there in June, if you do not expect total luxury this is it ... Fair room, good pool, okay bar. And in walk distance two the main streed. Sweet sound of the ocean into the night. It was a great holiday, and the hotel was a very good part of it.

First time in Cyprus and the holiday overall was great. Hotel was perfect location with a fantastic pool and plenty of sunbeds. Pool bar was excellent value and the views were the best.
We were there late July early August and the resort was very busy. We only had one night where noise was a problem due to a party in the restaurant opposite the hotel. Air con free in bedroom. Rooms cleaned regulary, towels changed every second day. Wi fi a waste of time as our apartment was too far away for a signal.Wi fi was expensive. Safe resonable price with a refundable 5 euro deposit for the key. Late checkout room was 50 euro which you have to book in advance and they let you know the day before. There was a few locals using the hotel facilities at weekends but there were still plenty of sunbeds.

First time at this hotel, excellent location pool area leads onto the beach. Rooms large and spotless. Well equiped kitchen, with mini oven, two rings, kettle, toaster. Complex has a small self service laundy, but no drying rails on balconies. Air con free in bedroom, but 6 euro charge per day for lounge air con. TV with BBC world and Eurosport only in English. Wifi available but charged 70 euro per fortnight. (you can have a drink in the Rising Sun Pub and get it free though) Complex is near the main strip(5 minutes walk) with a wide choice of restaurants, recommendations for Andama (traditonal Cypriot) Red Indian (USA diner style wide range of set menus for as little as 10 euro's) Georgia (air conditioned and good menu and prices). Staff are very friendly, and food at restaurant at lunch time is very good and a wide choice. No kids club, small indoor childrens play area with toddler toys such as wendy houses. Pool area very good for kids deepest area only being 150cm. Bed hire on beach is 2.50 euro per day. Not many British at this hotel as it is mainly Russian, Scandanavian and Cypriot families with teenage children rather than younger kids. No entertainment during the day, Rising Sun pub has a act each night ranging from Cypriot Dancing to Abba tributes. Lots of sunbeds, and space around pool area. Gym available at 4 Euros per visit. Massage available in hotel 25 euro.

Room Tip: Room 231 Corner room, large and spacious, only downside was it is opposite one of the local restaura...
