This year we stayed in the platomare hotel it is family run and also family friendly offers good food although the Rooms are a little dated they are very clean towels changed daily but its only a base
it is 2 minutes walk to pernera beach which has a few coves in that area also 15 minute walk into protaras this hotel is perfectly situated quiet location where as protaras can get busy and loud also pernera centre can get busy too.
For all you returning travellers to Cyprus who thought you had seen everything Cyprus had to offer think again MR JOHN was a young boy of 15 when the invasion took place in 1974 this man does a 5 hour trip to the north worth every penny 20 euro for adults 10 for children it is a very moving experience and glad we did the trip it makes you thankful for what you have. The red bus trip is open top but I preferred the 18 seater air conditioned mini bus with door to door service.
The north like the euro so beware take plenty of small euro coins and 5 euro notes ask to pay in euro the bill will be in Turkish lira if it is 32 lira that is 16 euro approx just half it but they may give you change in euro notes but small change in lira coins check your money.
Another trip is to the Lefkara village if you hire a car visit the quaint little village there are lace shops on the way up to the village and the shop keepers will see a car coming up and run out into the road to slow you down invite you in ply you with lemonade and if your not careful flog you goods at an extortionate price they tell you that this is lefkara but it isn't go up the hills when it starts to level off look for the coffee shop cafe on the right turn right then first left then right pull in at he municipal car park it's partly under cover walk to the left up he cobbled lane you see a post office on the other end is Harry's bar take a look inside beautiful lefkara lace I always buy here the lady called Georgina raouna is off English cypriot parents and you are not obliged to purchase however do take a look at the village but beware of other shop owners they almost drag you in and follow you around the shop and there you feel obliged to buy to shut them up lovely little restaraunts up there too.
In my opinion Cypriots have been stuffed by their government the bail out to Greece crippled cyprus where it was only a short time ago a wealthy country.
I have seen a big difference in the prices from last year you can blow a grand in no time so places I would recommend to eat is the platomare if you stay there value for money, The super s, mojito, and Anatolia restaraunts the mojito is near the platomare the other 2 are in protaras it is a lovely walk.
Russians and Chinese are buying and living in Cyprus the Russians will think nothing of barging you out of the way trying to intimidate so just beware for young lads and lasses going to party in napa take care young cypriot lads riding round in vans chasing british lads and looking for trouble especially if there are only 2 of you they will be in 3's and 4's this came from 2 lads who had to run so they would not get smacked about napa can be loud at night young Cypriots riding around the streets on motor bikes dependent on where you stay you may not get much sleep I would always recommend protaras instead of napa.
For fish and chip lovers go down agincourt road to the bottom restaraunts there is value for money it overlooks the sea you need a car to get about see Tina at doros car hire we hire from here in one week we travelled over 1600 km so much to see.
