“A lovely little hotel,a bit dated but a great base”
Reviewed 28 July 2013

Having read other reviews ,I would agree that the rooms are a little basic but they are very clean.the atmosphere is very relaxed and it is a quiet hotel. About 15 mins walk into Protaras along the boardwalk is a lovely way to start the evening.
The hotel staff are friendly and very helpful.the food at the bar is cooked to a good standard and very reasonable priced.the rooms are cleaned every day although they knock your door around 9 am so not much chance of a lie in!!
A great place to go if you want to relax without a lot of noise but within easy reach of more livelier surroundings if you want.

Room Tip: We were in B34 which over.looked the hotel pool next door so not the greatest view but we spent so l...

Okay, so some good reviews persuaded me to stay here. There were some good aspects to this place, which I will go through first.
It is pretty close to a couple of small beaches, which aren't bad, but the better beach at Protaras is a 20min walk away. The staff are friendly and the food is good. The bar is clean and functional. The nearest supermarket is only a few minutes walk away. Also, the pool is clean and adequate but getting beds that have shade is a problem.
Now the bad news. The rooms are exactly how I imagine what a prison cell in 1931 Turkey would look like. On arrival, we found a cockroach lying on it's back apparently dead. Upon inspection, it wasn't quite dead. After seeing the room, I was sure this creature had attempted to take its own life in a fit of extreme depression.
The room had no furniture except two sittees that should have been dumped in the 1960s and a table that looked like it was built by a woodwork student of limited skills. You couldn't have put an empty tin of coke on it.
The bedroom was stinking, dirty and my particular room (B03) had a balcony view a brick wall ten feet in front of me and something green growing.
The beds had hard springs and lumpy. It was more comfortable sleeping on the floor, which also dirty. Apparently there is a severe drought in Cyprus. This manifested itself, in the performance of the shower. It was like being urinated on by a gravely dehydrated 90year old man, except on occasions the shower would have been cold.
The kitchen was falling apart with the bare minimum of utensils. I understand the concept of a budget holiday but it would have been better to stay at home or sleep on the beach. They refused to give more than one key, which meant everybody had to go to bed at the same time or request reception to let you in.
The town that it is in, Penera, isn't bad but the nearby Protaras has a lot of things for everybody. All in all, if you are looking for a cheap holiday, bring a sleeping bag and pitch a tent.

Room Tip: Pick a room with a pool view. They describe all rooms as having an inland view, which is strange.

Been to Protaras twice this year already with Olympic. This time we have just returned from a week in the Plaromare Apartments in Pernera area of Protaras (14 to 21 July). Loved every minute of it. The rooms are a little dated but perfectly fine and have everything needed. You pay 7 euros per night for the aircon which was needed as so hot unless you have a side apartment as my daughter did, then the breeze kept the apartment really cool. The maid came in every day. She changed our towels 5 days out of the 7, sheets once and mopped the floor, emptied the bins and left new toilet rolls every day. They were really friendly also. 24 hour reception with always someone there so felt quite safe. Staff all very friendly. Food in hotel bar very nice and good prices as at the moment in cyprus, meals are very expensive in bars and restaurants so for a hotel bar to offer good prices that is good. Drinks are cheap. Pint of Leon lager only 2 euros. Swimming pool quite small but great. Was warmed up by the sun every day so felt like you were getting in a warm bath. Location brilliant. Lovely to sit at the outside bar area in the sun looking out at the sea and lovely surroundings. Just up from the beach and directly opposite the watersports part. 5 minute walk to bars and restaurants (Mojitos really nice and Fools and Horses also good), 10 min walk to centre of Pernera (El Cavalier((Italian)) favourite restaurant of ours) and a lovely 20 min walk on the promenade to Protaras with a few bars on the way overlooking the sea. Must visit Romeos for the greek night (tues & fri) and experience a 'Meze'. Absolutley beautiful. Also the Shirley Valentine boat trips are great and value for money at 5 euros each. They are located just to the right of the beach. All in all would definitely return to the Platomare apartments again.

Room Tip: A side room had a nice breeze blowing through so don't need aircon. We had booked 2 rooms and th...

We were very happy with our week at the Plato Mare (came home on 17th July). The apartment was clean with fresh towels and daily room clean. My partner does not like too much heat so we paid the daily 7 euros for the air con in the bedroom and while it was a little noisy the room got lovely and chilled and was a great retreat! Sean the rep and indeed all the staff were very helpful. Adi the barman was excellent. What I liked most was the location. I did doubt the claim that it was a 15-20 minute walk into Protoras but actually it was, even at a slow pace! However we preferred the smaller coves at Pernera to the big crowded beach at Protoras. Another good thing is that there are no husslers trying to sell you things on the beach or in the restaurants. There are a lot of boat trips just as you come up the beach at Protoras at the end of the boardwalk but we went twice on the smaller Shirley Valentine boat at a wee jetty only 5 minutes on the boardwalk. It was only 5 euros for an hour and a half trip to swim in the turquoise seas and was lovely. We also went on the Mr.John airconditioned minibus (20 euros each) across into Famagusta and it was a very interesting day. You can see his red leaflets on some lamp posts and then ring him on his mobile and he picks you up at the apartment! On the last night we found the Mexican Cantina and they had 'soulman' on and he was excellent but they seemed to have live acts every night from 10-12 and we wished we had found it earlier. It is off the street walking up to main street where Pizza Hut and Windmill restaurant is. On the right you will see a 'walking on water' ball thing and it is just down that street to the right. Just past the Mexican Cantina is Sizzlers restaurant (bit dearer but great quality food so worth it). Also had 2 massages with a great Bulgaria masseuse and thought they were definately worth it too. We have never went to the same place twice but would go back to Plato Mare and Pernera again although perhaps not at the height of summer as if you're not a night clubber it has a great mix of everything without being hassly. It was only 7 euros all week for the safety box at reception by the way and there was always some one there to open it!

We stayed for a week in July, I have stayed here on a number of occasions over the years and made many new friends this time being no exception, I find the hotel to be clean and comfortable and food and drinks to be reasonably priced, great location, wonderful people, if Sean the rep was always available and a lovely lad, what more can you ask, see you in September.

Room Tip: If your lucky enough to get a sea/pool view its amazing

Stayed at the Platamore apts 30 JUNE2013 for 1 week and stayed in block 1 apt A11..The apartments are very basic and in desparate need of upgrading, this apartments had no AC that worked...They charge 7euros a day if you are lucky enough to get AC, also safety deposit boxes are at reception and a daily charge made for this also...coking facilities are very poor in the apartments 2 little electric rings but had decent fridge...food served at apts was good and reasonable...especially the English breakfast served till 12 and cost 2.95euros..pint of leon was 2euros soft drinks same price....the restaurants in this area were great especially Mojito and Blue Spice...we also done Shirley Valentine boat trip which cost 5 euros and was the best value trip...as I said at the start these apts are a good base and very clean and I would return.

Room Tip: block b with sea view

I travelled to the platomare apartments the end of june and was booked as a last min deal, when we arrived we found the hotel to be clean and comfortable but dated.
The hotel is located 5-10min walk from the nearest beach but this is small, the better and bigger beach is in patarus town about 20min walk.
There is not a lot to do around here we found so this holiday is ideal if you are looking for a relaxing escape.
The staff make this small hotel and are fantastic. If you want a good value for money holiday then platomare apartments are what you need

Room Tip: We had a corner room so had a good breeze
