We stayed for a week during low season and got a very good price for a family with two small children. However the club had just been undergoing renovations which had not been finished in time, so the large swimming pool and parts of the common area were a big noisy building site for the entirety of our stay - this was very disappointing and the staff weren't particularly good at dealing with it.

Apart from that, the location is beautiful and conveniently located for Rio de Janeiro. It is the Mata Atlantica, so there is plenty of nature including nice things like birds, butterflies and capibaras but also serious mosquitoes. The beach is steep and not great for small kids as it gets deep quite quickly. You can see oil tankers cruising past daily - the downside of Rio's oil boom.

Guests were mostly Brazilian with some Argentinians mixed in - if you want quiet nights, try and stay at the far end of the resort, near the "quiet" pool. Although most rooms are far enough from the bar/disco area, people walking home past your room in the evening will make a lot of noise.

Staff was largely very nice - typical Club Med style.

Room Tip: Stay at the end, close to quiet pool to avoid being woken by people walking past at night

The place where the hotel is located is one of the most spectacular in Brazil. Imbedded between the mountains of "Serra do mar" and it's rainforest and the emerald colored sea, this place gets close to paradise.
The hotel itself, accommodations, common areas are already showing its age, but it all get compensated by the gentleness of the staff.
The "all inclusive system" by club med is a bit different from other major hotel chains, but, the quality of the food and service really compensate the sometimes lesser abundance.
I would definitely recommend to friends!
A tip: be prepared for an occasional rain, choose well when to go!

I spent there 8 days with my husband. I can´t offer much information about the different activities but I can tell that if you really want to relax, it is the best place in Rio. My husband and I have been to Rio around 20 times on holidays and this was our first time in Club Med. The beach is beautiful, so is the water. It is quite empty as practically everybody chooses the swimming pools instead of the beach.
The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. Bathroom is great too. All the rooms look out to sea views and the food is varied and very good quality.
I will definitely go back there.

I can't understand why so many people have written extremely positive reviews on this hotel. It is  badly managed  and the result of course is a very poor service; for example,  we complained about our safe deposit box - it was not closing, nothing was done; another person in our group complained about the telephone is his room - also not working, again nothing was done. They charge for the Internet but the wifi  does not work properly in the rooms. When we complained about it  we were told that nothing could be done; no Internet and no money back. Ok, it was not much,  but I don't think that it is reasonable to charge for a service that can not be delivered. The food was good but not wonderful as so many people have said. Dinner was the best meal; good variety, tasteful food  served in small portions in  plates nicely decorated. During breakfast the restaurant  was a mess: dirt tables and floor, a 20 min  line to get an omelette, fruits looking old or overripe (and in Brazil there is a wide  variety of fruits. Moreover,  it is very easy to buy great fruits for a very small price) etc. I was very disappointed because in Brazil even 3-star hotels usually serve a very good breakfast. Lunch just average. Positive aspects: the landscape is stunning, there is a calm pool for adults only, view from the room very beautiful and relaxing. We stayed at one of the renovated rooms. It was  spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Staff at the smaller more formal restaurant were friendly and helpful. We can't tell about the GOs because we stayed only 2 nights and did not have much contact with them. In conclusion, there is much room for improvement.

I went to Club Med Rio Das Pedras for 5 days. The club is very good with great GOs.
The Club is well built in the sense that we never felt oppressed by the amount of people being there (despite the club being full). It is quite nice with lots of activities to do.

The only downside I have is related to the rooms. The luxury rooms are well renovated, practical, clean and comfy.
However, the 'Classic' rooms are quite the opposite which is quite surprising as usually Club Meds offer simple classic rooms that are clean, well maintained etc. This was not the case in Rio das Pedras (rust on the bed, nail sticking out of the wall right next to the head, bathroom not practical and not cleaned, cockroaches, windows have a giant gap between their end and the ground, etc.). We usually take the classic rooms when we go to Club Med but this time we had to upgrade as the standard was way below what we expected (we do not mind having a simple room as long as it is clean and functional, which was not the case here).

To conclude: overall, the club offers a very nice experience. The Classic rooms are way below the usual Club Med Standard in terms of maintenance and cleaning. The Luxury rooms however are (thank god) very good. Too bad we need to have the 'luxury' level room to have a suitable room.

Room Tip: The Classic rooms are way below the usual Club Med Standard in terms of maintenance, cleaning (our r...

Nice hotel to go with kids. The location is perfect, just in the Mangaratiba Bay. Nice warm, calm, clear water to teach the kids to dive. Great GOs staff, specially the Waterski and Wakeboard staff. A lot of enterteiment at night too.

Room Tip: The room I stayed (Goiaba complex) was quite far from the center of the resort. Next time I'll t...

This is a very special place for families and couples. It is located in a pristine location near Angra. It is one of the few locations that is located in a private valley with no unwelcome neighbors. You feel as if your are in your own private oasis.

The staff is very friendly and cares exceptionally well for kids and adult guests alike. There is a good mix between family activities and quite time.

The food is appropriate for an activity based resort. Enough calories and quality to keep you going.

I am a huge fan of Janyck!
