We visited Fogo Island in late August 2017. As a couple looking for self-catering accommodation for a couple of nights, we found Simms Place suited our needs perfectly. The owners, Linda and Arthur, gave us a very warm welcome and were happy to share their deep knowledge of the island and way of life. Linda had thoughtfully provided some delicious home-made bread, jam and other treats, and gave us some very helpful tips on what to see and do. Arthur is a skilled craftsman, and has entirely rebuilt and renovated Simms Place, transforming a traditional dwelling into a haven of peace and modern comfort. We had a long and interesting chat with him about life in the community. The apartment itself is very suitable for at least a few days stay. It is cozy, spotlessly clean and well-furnished, with a tasteful colour scheme. The bed was super-comfortable and the bathroom towels beautifully soft. Since it was transformed very recently into a rental accommodation, everything is basically new. The village of Fogo is quiet and peaceful, with nearby walking trails; there was no traffic noise (and not much traffic for that matter). We would certainly visit again.
