“A wonderful return to Koroni”
Reviewed 24 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

This has been our second holiday staying at the Icon Painter apartments in Koroni and once again, everything has been wonderful in every way.

Situated in the pretty town, at the side of a hill close to the top, the apartment is one of four in a characterful refurbished house, previously belonging to Koroni's Icon Painter. Inside, there is a lovely Mediterranean feel, combined with a charming attention to detail. We loved the blue shutters and window frames which echo the colour of the sea and the cool terracotta tiled floor, together with the very effective air conditioning, is a real bonus when out of the summer heat. Fully equipped with everything needed to make one's stay as comfortable as possible, the apartment even has a pillow menu, offering luxurious pillow combinations to suit individual requirements, although we found the initial types provided, to be the cosiest ever!

Outside for relaxation, each apartment has a small sitting area with a table and chairs, all within a small attractive walled courtyard. The stillness broken only by the sound of trickling water from the small dipping pool. The courtyard entrance opens out on to a narrow street which if you walk up, quickly leads you to the picturesque church, lovely views across Zaga beach below, to the Monastery with gardens and eventually to the castle ruins. The beach is also only a few minutes walk from the apartments.

Walking down from the Icon Painter house, through narrow streets via steps, one is led to the gentle bustle of the very attractive town, with its array of little shops selling everything that you might need. The usually turquoise ocean with its colourful fishing and sailing boats, has a harbour front edged with a superb selection of restaurants, serving food to suit every palette. Our personal favourites are Bogris 2, the Parthenon and the cake shops serving desserts along the sea front.

Within an hour to an hour and a half from the apartment, there are many places to discover by car. Our most visited were the Venetian Castle at Methoni, Nestor's Palace near Pylos and Ancient Messene near to Kalamata. If you feel like an adventure further afield as we did, then pick up the superb motorway to Athens at Kalamata and travel two and a half hours to the ancient site of Mycenae.

We'd like to say a huge Thank you to our hosts Michael and Maria, for making our Icon Painter stay so enjoyable. In our opinion, you have a little gem at the tip of the Peloponnese.

“Perfect holiday with amazing hosts, accommodation, pristine beach, sea turtle nests and greek food”
Reviewed 19 September 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Another amazing week's holiday at the iconpainter appartments - Michael and Maria were again so welcoming and helpful. Beautiful Zaga beach is within 5 mins walk past the old nunnery and church, down steps to a view that is everything you expect from Greece. The swimming is just what we wanted, warm clean sea and no resorts or building on/ near the beach, just a local café/ restaurant. Go the other way and the authentic very friendly harbour village/town of Koroni is good for market days, restaurants and mini markets. The appartments have been refurbished beautifully with such style and love, unique touches like reclaimed marble sink in kitchen and tiled floors. Bathroom artistically modern too.
Many memorable evenings sat out on the balcony upstairs eating fresh cooked greek food and good local vino - ask Michael to recommend!
If you're an early riser go to Zaga beach with a couple of Sea turtle volunteers at sunrise to look for newly-made turtle nests, and mark them for protection. They are Archelon, and have a booth in Koroni to publicise their work.
We will be back for the third time next Summer, if not before! Thank you Michael and Maria, you are naturals.

“So good, we've already booked next year!”
Reviewed 8 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

It was the strength of the reviews on TA that persuaded us to book here, and we were not disappointed - the glowing reports are all true.

The apartments are really well appointed, with good cooking facilities (rare in self-catering, a proper oven!).

The location could not be better - equidistant from the beach and the town/harbour, you are only 5 mins from either. Plenty of great restaurants - and prices are considerably cheaper than e.g. The Greek Islands, typically we paid about 20-25 Euros for dinner with wine.

There is also another pretty village about 10 mins drive away - Michael and Maria hosted a Greek night here for all the residents of the villas and apartments and it was a great night - Greek music and dancing, with the best food served.

Can't wait to go back!

“Koroni might become a habit....”
Reviewed 1 September 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Returning to Koroni in June was almost inevitable after discovering Michael and Maria's Iconpainter apartments last year. Apart from the siren-call of the beaches, local tavernas and pastry shops, we needed to see first-hand how the winter's alterations could have improved on perfection! They managed it, though. The apartment kitchens are even more well-appointed, the wi-fi's installed, the new lighting's brilliant, and the furnishings more comfortable than ever. Michael had bottled some fine vintages from their own grapes, their olives and oil are better than ever, and Maria's list of home produce seems to be growing longer and tastier daily. We only had a week to spare this time, but could happily have stayed all season. There's always next year, of course.....

“Magic little fishing village in the southern Peloponnese”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Delightful small set of 4 apartments, simply and comfortably furnished and perfectly located close to Zaga beach, the harbour (for restaurants and shops), and the Castle. In a quiet area of the village so noise was not a problem at all. The kitchen is well fitted out for being able to prepare meals if you want to. The only negative was that the wi-fi was really erratic, and couldn't be used inside the unit, only out on the balcony, The balcony is lovely though, so it's not a really big negative.

“Very Highly Recommended!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Just returned from a wonderful week staying in the Iconpainter Apartments in Koroni. As previous guests have already reported, these apartments are of a very high standard, well maintained, very tastefully decorated and ideally located.
For me, what makes the Iconpainter Apartments so special is the attention to detail, personal touch and amazing hospitality shown by Mike and Maria. It seems that nothing has been overlooked and if it has - Mike and Maria are very keen for feedback.
We stayed in The Boat apartment on the first floor, which is very light and spacious. There is a small balcony overlooking the harbour at one side, and a terrace at the other side complete with table, chairs and a clothes airer. On the ground floor, there is a communal washing machine, ironing board and iron for the use of all guests. Along with bath towels and hand towels, there are also very large beach towels, which we found really helpful, being as we only travelled with hand luggage. In the apartment, there are a selection of books including books about the Peloponnese and assorted fiction. Mike and Maria left us a sample of their own olive oil and olives (the olives were definitely the best I tasted during the week) and called by a couple of times during the week to drop off fresh apricots from their own garden. The bed was amazingly comfortable and there was even a pillow menu, enabling us to choose our preferred pillow type, which was dropped off to us the second day!
I have been visiting Koroni for some years now and can honestly say that The Iconpainter Apartments are the nicest I have stayed in. The hospitality shown by Mike and Maria is second to none and I will definitely be returning. Very highly recommended!
