I stayed here in Jan 2013 with my wife. Its an awesome place. Its not a big resort with flashy interiors and all the hyped up facilities. Its a basic home-stay kind of a hotel but with excellent view and even better staff and owner.

Location -
Its a bit far from Cherrapunji. But the location is just fantastic. You need to have your own vehicle to visit this place anyways. It offers a panoramic view of the valley and have many jungle trails near-by.

Rooms -
Rooms are basic and not very big. But they offer a comfortable stay. No television in the room and no room service either, but do you really go to Cherrapunji for fancy food and luxury stay?? Hot water was available all day and they had given us good blankets to keep us warm.

Food -
Food offered was simply delicious. It could have beaten any 5-star hotel in terms of quality and taste.

Staff & Owner -
I have no words to express my gratitude to the team of this wonder full resort. They are very friendly and punctuality is their USP. I thank all of you for making my stay memorable.

Sight Seeing -
There are any trekking spots nearby and the hotel will arrange for transport and guide for you if you want the best one is the Double Decker Live Root Bridge. Its a must watch if you have taken all the efforts to come to Cherra. But be sure that you are ready to sweat it out and have basic fitness level.

Stayed in the new annex building for few nights. Dennis is a superb host and very knowledgable. They do provide room service if needed. The main reception also doubles as the dining room. The rooms in the annex are big, roomy and very clean. There is no wifi and the mobile connections are not great either. This is a no frills hotel but the setting is beautiful. Service is excellent, staff are very friendly and always serve with a smile.
Dennis gives personal attention to the guests.
We saw some beautiful sunsets.
It is very convenient for the double decker living root bridge trek and ideally located for treks around this area.
This is 15 km from Cherrapunji but well worth the drive.
Drivers and guides are provided with accommodation as well.
Food was excellent and plentiful.

Room Tip: Stay in the annex which has been newly built so rooms are more modern. Also rooms in the old buildin...

We stayed at CHR in July 2013 just for one night. The journey to CHR was very enjoyable and well directed as every 100m yellow CHR boards could be seen. Our executive room was in the new bldg...very clean and big enough for three of us...food was good and enjoyed musical performance by local group...

Our stay in Cherra Holiday Resort in the month of May this year, was truly the time we fell closest to nature. As we travelled from Shillong to Cherrapunji, the awesome beauty of Meghalaya with its numerous waterfalls mesmerized us. The lovely memories we have of the resort include the charming sunset we watched from its properties and the warm and friendly nature of the staff and the owner family.

However there were a few issues one should keep in mind if they are going to stay there. The executive rooms in the annexe (new) building (where we stayed) are modern, nice and comfortable BUT there was no intercom connection between the main building and the annexe, nor any room service concept. So even if it is raining hard, one needs to walk down to the main building (which though not far, but a little distance away) for tea/snacks or lunch/dinner. As rains are regular feature and the main beauty of the place, one should keep this in mind if travelling with little children, especially. Also, when it started raining one evening, swarms of insects came flying into our room through the narrow slit beneath the door and it got a little messy. We had to clear them out of our shoes, travel bags etc :) As the mobile network was mostly not available in the annexe building, so not having the intercom did matter. For honeymoon couples, or couples wanting extra privacy, however, the annexe building will be more suitable for its solitude & isolation. For families with children, we felt the rooms in the main building are better and also the rooms with view are in the main building. So just be a little careful in deciding on what your priorities are and make the right choice, so that you can enjoy the resort to the fullest.

I think I got to be honest and provide an unbiased review about this resort.

We stayed for 5 nights in this resort and I must admit that the more you stay the more you like it. And sometimes I feel, we could have stayed for a little longer! :-)

Mr. Denis and his son Joel are running this resort with utmost care for their guests. They are very humble and helpful. The support staff is the silent engine of this resort who are working round the clock attending to each and every need of the guests.

We stayed in Room #2 in the old building. Can you imagine a room with the view of Bangladesh plains from the window? Can you imagine a room with the view of the most happening main street in Laitkynsew? We enjoyed our stay in this room for five nights.

Mr. Denis and Joel will help you to plan your itinerary. You can go on numerous treks from this resort which will be experiences of a lifetime. It is well organized and they have great guides for every activity. We had a driver arranged whenever we needed one.

We witnessed one of the (non local) drivers struggling to find the nearest Umkar living root bridge, as we found him asking for directions even after 2.5 hrs. It really helps to hire a local driver to save time.

Coming to food, after trying some Chinese, North Indian, we found out that the resort serves the best local food. We tried Chicken Neiiong, Paneer Neiiong (which they made especially for us, despite not being on the menu), Pork Jadoh, Chicken Jadoh, Pork Dohkhleh. Tungtap Chutney, Mulli Neilieh Salad etc..
You must try them at least once to experience the local flavor.

I believe that the new building has better rooms but without great views. The old building has great views with not so new rooms. I think families with kids may prefer the new building. People who are not too fussy about the interiors will like the rooms in the old building as well.

There are options of newer resorts located near Mawsmai caves and Seven sisters waterfall.

But we still would prefer this resort for the location, hospitality, service and treks which will be experiences of a life time.

Room Tip: I suggest Old building which got good view only one side, probably room #1, #2 & #3.

The resort has two type of rooms. The old ones which all connect to the same dining Hall and the new ones or the executive rooms which are in a separate building. Though the new rooms are slightly over priced, that's one thing you can live with. But the actual problem lies with the fact that the resort has a policy of no room service other than snacks. So you need to go to the dining Hall for your breakfast lunch and dinner. That's probably the worst thing about the hotel. If you can live with this it's one of the best resorts in Cherrapunjee.
Now the positives. Breath taking location and very helpful staff. The manager took personal interest in explaining the entire area and even gave us some travel tips which made us explore areas which other wise we would have missed out.
Tip: there are two routes to reach the resort from the cherrapunjee town. One is about 15km and the other about 30km. Don't miss the longer route as it's very scenic. Specially during the rains.

We stayed in the holiday resort for a night. It is basically an eco-resort and more than a resort-feel one would get the feeling of sharing a house with several other inmates. The rooms of the main building are arranged around the central dining room and opens right into it. To tell the truth, the amenities are very basic, but the place is clean. There was no television in our room (Do not know about other rooms though). We were actually a li'l disappointed when we arrived at the place. But, the welcoming people more than makes up for it. I have traveled the world quite a bit, but no where in the world I found that a glass of water is offered each time one comes to the place from outside trips and walks. This alone took away our negativity and at the end of the trip we were too happy.

The holiday resort is situated quite at a distance from the main town. The route runs through the most beautiful stretch we have been in Cherrapunjee and I would recommend that even if anyone doesn't stay there, one must not miss the drive. The holiday resort seemed quite popular among weekend holidaymakers from nearby towns of Shillong and Guwahati.

Our room had a vast window with views of winding village roads and distant mountains. Two one-seater sofa with a small table makes a nice sit-out here. There were enough blankets to keep us warm. Food was simple and good (There are not many stay or eat-out option in Cherrapunjee, in any case). The dining area is decorated with traditional fishing equipment of Assam and Meghalaya and the captions make for an interesting read.

In the evening, the resort arranges singing sessions by the local people and to encourage them Rs.100 is charged from each room. However, they didn't charged those who were unwilling to join. Bonfire was arranged in the evening and it made for a nice outdoor activity midst the pitch dark surroundings with lights from the surrounding villages glimmering. The hotel staff are always with a ear. What I could make from various websites, probably they play an active role in promoting treks to root bridges and such other activities. However, we were surprised that they had no idea about the opening and closing hours of Mawsmai caves.

The complex also includes a garden with blooming flowers and bamboo made sit-outs from where one can enjoy sunset and plains of Bangladesh during daytime.

P.S. Quite a number of Staff came out to bid us goodbye when we were leaving and they kept waving till we were out of sight, just as we do when guests from our home leave. We heart.
