Recently visited for lunch.
We both decided on sandwiches. Both very nice and good value BUT do they really have to pour gravy over the beef sandwich?! Why not present the gravy in a small jug - made the experience a real messy affair! Other than that not bad!

Visited this pub today to treat some family .The whole experience was poor ,we ordered 4roast dinners and they were the worst we have had .The staff were very young and inexperienced ,they did not know what they were doing .there did not seem to be a manager. this is a shame as the setting is lovely .Hope the owners sort this out soon as people will not go back

We as a family have eaten & drunk here for a few years and the malt shovel, before the new owners and refurb, was absolutely awful, but it's now fantastic. It has only been open for 2 weeks and is still having some teething problems, waiting for food, service etc as all eateries with new staff do. But the potential us great, the menu is plentiful and the food us very tasty, just a little flow to arrive at your table. They have a good selection if beers, ciders & lagers and the wine choice is good too.

We live in the same village as The Malt & it's been needing a good food pub for years, the other pub in the village is not very nice at all, and it looks like we finally have one, I just hope they iron out their problems quickly.

I would definitely recommend trying the malt out, but at peak times it can be busy & a little slow .

As living local to the newly refurbished pub my partner and I gave it a try. The bar staff were slow and didn't seem to know what they were doing. The service was appalling! An hour wait for food. When the food arrived I was very disappointed as the value of food is way too expensive for what we were given. To then get food poisoning from uncooked food was just atrocious. I certainly will not be visiting again! I would recommend the fleece just up the road. Food is much better value and beautiful food!

i titled this review this way as i would most likley think i could only feed the food to the dog !!
Although i was disappointed overall from the momment we walked through the door,

I rang this afternoon to see if they had a table i could book for approx 5.30 for 5 people, this resulted in 2 people trying to answer the question as they didnt know , the upshot was was we had to be there at 5.30 and to be out no later than 7 as they were fully booked
we arrived right on time and there were 6 members of staff at the bar who seemed suprised at our arrival, we were acknowledged and then 1 member of staff said to another ," where shall we stick 'em ?" Nice !!
we ordered our drinks ( poor choice ) this to me was an excellent place to serve guest ales /micro beers , also none of the good irish black stuff much to my husbands dismay and horror !

our order was taken ,my husband asked for soup of they and what was it , waitress had to go find out 2 mins later broc & Blue cheese , i ordered the trio of cured fish but asked what fish it was , again she had no idea , 2 mins later back and i decided to give it a whirl
the soup was powdered and i think had been let down with lemon juice or vinegar im sure it was totally inedible ! this was pointed out to the server but seemed uninterested. My mother in law and i ordered " Fish &Chips " this arrived with a pile of wedges each ( i really dislike wedges as does my mother in law ) i menitioned to the server and said it was meant to be with chips , she said ok took them away brought my husbands ( who had to begin eating so it didnt go cold waiting for us ) and came back with the plates and this time is was skinny fries ?( raw and having a bath in thr oil on my plate ) i asked what this issue was with chips she shrugged her shoulders and said uh uh ? 100% frozen fish !! awful
asked for the bill the asked for a bill that didnt have the soup on it as it wasnt even eaten !
nice beer garden though and although they have a limited ale selection if i was walking past and was thirsty i would most likley call in for a 1/2 and sit in the beer garden ( not inside as the music was dance and the smell is ingrained beer even in a new building ! 2 stars was for the garden
