We booked at the last minute not knowing what to expect. From the moment of our arrival everything was just perfect. A friendly, relaxed welcome and a quick orientation and then we were left to ourselves for the next 2 days.
We stayed in the beautiful French cottage which opens out to a large deck and an expansive lawn. The French studio is next door but is well screened with shrubs and we were not aware of our neighbours. At the bottom of the lawns there are 200 year old pohutakawa trees with partial views through to the estuary.
We made use of the kayaks to cross the estuary to the magnificent surf beach where we (cautiously) swam.
This is one of the nicest places we have ever stayed in!

A quiet, secluded place, with modern, clean conveniences. We wanted one of the cottages, but were content with the suite of rooms upstairs. The guys enjoyed kayaking across the river to the dunes and the Pacific and we girls enjoyed the animals Annette and Grant have rescued -- alpaca, pigs, sheep, horses, a donkey, and cows. Waipu area offers lots of beautiful, accessible beaches, a wonderful museum, some beautiful falls to hike and this lovely place to retire and relax. The last day, we decided to check out a movie and we were surprised with the high tech theater with recliners (Grant warned that 65% fall asleep, but our sugar-filled snacks and Johnny Depp kept us alert 'til the end). I would like a few more available restaurants, but I would certainly return.

We had not planned to stay here, but stopped by to say "Hello". The beach was so beautiful that we decided to stay. Get the top floor room right on the front. It is huge (2 rooms) and has a wonderful view of the area. There is very little food near by, so get directions to the nearby village, Waipu, and bring food back to the room (full kitchen). Tom, the owner, is so helpful with directions and suggestions for dinner. There is a DVD player in the room, so ask Tom to borrow some DVDs. The rooms are VERY clean and it is a place you will recommend to everyone.

A secluded gem, with various accommodation options. Hosts Grant & Annette are the epitomy of hospitality and would surely help you choose the best room option for you. We stayed in the French Cottage which was delightful, with kitchen, dining area and lounge, and ensuite with Spa bath. All tastefully decorated with full French doors out onto the private deck, with our own BBQ, and views through to the water, albeit through trees (old Pohutakawas mind you). The property is right on the waters edge of a lagoon behind the main beach. Kayaks and rowing boat are provided to cross over which has to be done - over the dunes we had miles of awesome surf beach entirely to ourselves, though Wapu Cove was within walking distance along the beach. Another bonus is all the bird life in the lagoon. And when you get back to base there is an outdoor hot spa tub to sit and soak up the end of the day. Then when you want to chill out completely, take a glass of wine into the private movie theatre and choose from some 250 titles .. try not to fall asleep in the luxurious recliner seats though! And for the animal lovers, Grant & Annette have taken in a menagery of rescue animals. In summary, laid back waterside luxury with great hosts. To be recommended.

Room Tip: Would recommend the French couple for a couple but talk to Grant & Annette re the other options...

I would definitely come back. This accomodation was fantastic. The rooms were done so tastefully with lovely colours and decor, really spacious with a very comfortable bed. This was real quality and an absolute little gem.. Setting just idyllic. It was awesome for the price and I "totally" recommend it. The host was also lovely and a proper gentleman. Bruce and Carol.

Room Tip: Look at the rooms before you check in.

Advertised as luxury and it lived up to its word
Although on the more expensive side of motel prices (although have paid more) this was well worth it.
Great location - rural and no traffic noise but close enough to Waipu and Waipu Cove not to be a problem - lovely grounds meticulously maintained.
We stayed in the garden cottage - very spacious, wonderful decor and furnishings
Hosts were very friendly and welcoming.
Would highly recommend this accomodation

Clean, well-run, and bright. Attractive small property with kayaks and hot tub. They have a rescue farm for animals. Make sure you kayak across the lagoon to the beach - beautiful and seems exclusive.
