“The Smallest Catholic Cathedral in Cuba”

Reviewed 7 December 2017 via mobile

This tiny and charming church is dedicated to St. Catherine of Ricci, a very local Italian saint from Prato, Florence. Still being a mystery how this far away saint becomes patroness of the cathedral and the entire city.

This is the smallest Roman Catholic Cathedral in Cuba an one of the smallest in the world.

Nothing remarkable about this church. Old, Cuban, centrally placed and a quiet refuge from a plaza filled with people using the town wifi.

This was the most attractive Cathedral we saw in Cuba. It has been restored and is well attended by locals and visitors for Sunday Mass. The clock chimes every hour - through the night as well - so it can be disturbing for light sleepers.

It was an amazing experience to return to the Cathedral from my hometown. I grew up running and playing with all the kids in the park surrounding Santa Catalina de Ricci. And although the original marble flooring it's gone now, the spirit of its passers by is still alive. You will be able to meet real Guantanameros and Guantanameras in this park just at the entrance of the cathedral.
