“Sheer luxury”
Reviewed 5 August 2008

We loved this hotel. We spent four nights as a luxury break from our busy sightseeing tour of Tuscany and Umbria. Although this was the most expensive of the hotels we stayed in, it was the one that we were quite happy to relax and spend days there. The pool and spa were fantastic. The food excellent.
I don't often say that I'd go back (there are too many places to see) but I might think twice about this one!

We have spent a wonderful one week in this hotel on our honeymoon in May and we were very pleased with it.
We arrived late at night in the hotel and a delicious cold plate dinner was prepared for us in the room. This was so kind attention from the hotel.
The breakfast and the dinner were also very very good and delicious, and my favorit was that every evening it was various fresh friut mix for the dinner (the pear-lime mix was the best ;)
We tried some spa treatments too in the hotel and there were absulte amazing and high quality.
The hotel offers so many spa treatments that you need one month (at least) if you wanna try it every. :)
The only thing what I can mention as weak point, it is not free internet connection in the room. You can internet free in the reception area or you can pay for it if you wanna use in your room.

So on the whole this is a fantastic hotel and I can recommend it for everybody who likes the good quality, delicious food, the fondness spa and the beautiful, peaceful milieu. :)

My husband and I stayed here for a week in mid September as part of our last holiday before our first child arrives. We were after a relaxing chilled out week with no worries - and it was an absolute joy to stay here. It is predeominantly an adult environment. The views are stunning, the pools are amazing and the food is absolutely beyond description. I'm rather think that the people in the previous review may have stayed somewhere else. They only allow a very limited number of children as there are only a few rooms that have an extra bed. there were only about 3 families max when we were there and it was full. It was quiet all day (it is a spa with many treatment rooms) with the exception of two half-hour classes that were done in the pool (one with very cool in-pool bikes! and pilates) so there was music running for these two half hours. Other than that, you sit on the sunloungers (of which there are enough for everyone) and gaze at the wonderful views which never fail to impress. There is an enormous swimming pool for exercising and another large pool heated from the thermal spings - so its like being in a bath - wtih jacuzzis round the edge. The rooms are equally fantastic. The room we had had huge doors out onto a patio which then looked out onto the countryside (a lot of them look over the pools). The bathroom (which is where the previous review is a mystery) was enormous - and standard as far as the brochure is concerned for a standard double. It had a large freestanding bath (with a window that looked through into the bedroom (and therefore out onto the view) and a separate shower cublicle and separate loo and bidet too. The bar area was lovely with plenty of leather sofas and chairs and a wonderful balcony over looking the pools and country. The restaurant is on the top floor - it is designed as it is was a courtyard - with romantically lit tables around a central tree - and then further tables on slighly raised areas around three sides. The room of the central area opens up completely, so that you are 'dining under the stars' - or certainly breakfasting in the sun. You have your own table and waiters for the duration of your stay - so its nice to build up a relationship with them (similar to a cruise). The menu is wide and varied and consists of a fresh juice and enormous salad bar which is always available as your pre-starter - then a choice of four difference choicese of antipasi (brushetta/niblles etc), first course (pasta/risotto/seafood etc) second course (wonderful meats or fish), and don't even talk about the enormous desert choice from the buffet - all home made and wonderful. Breakfast too consists of lots of juices, fresh fruit, dried fruit, an omlette station, breads, preserves, cereals etc etc. They do serve you fresh coffee or hot choc (as mentioned in the previous review) but there is also a tea bar, where you can choose your own tea bag, and make up your own tea in little stainless steel t-pots - so you can brew as long as you want. Admittedly, tea on the continent is always a bit on the weak side - but you can't have everything! Another bonus was the cake buffet at 4pm which were 'help yourself' which saw us through until dinner.
I can't recommend this enough. You do pick up your robes, pool towels and slippers when you check in (with a bag to take to the pool too) but you don't have to pay. When you check in they give you a number of cards which you exchange at the spa reception for the towels etc. This enables you to change them yourself every day at the spa if you'd like to. Of course all towels for the bathrooms are already there and changed every day too. It is expensive (we paid €1400 each for 7 nights) - but that was for half board - and was worth every penny. In addition, they also run excursions if you want to go. We had a car so pootled about the local villages ourselves - but we did go on the free shuttle to Siena (about 1 hour away) on one of the days which was very comfortable and saved on parking etc. If you are looking for a quiet time, healthy food (i've never eaten so much fresh beautiful produce on holiday before) and the opportunity to see this lovely part of the world from a luxury environment - then this is the place for you.

Adler Thermae is a large hotel with superb spa facilities. If you are looking for intimate sophisticated luxury hotel, then this is definately not the right place. It is big and noisy and you don´t have much privacy there. But it is located in a very scenic place of Val d`Orcia, so the views are wonderful. There are lots of saunas and thermal pools, special children pools, tennis, basketball, gym - a lot of things for active vacation. But there are some strange things, too - for example there are no slippers and bathrobes and pool towels in the room - you have to collect them after check in from the Adler spa and then you can use them while you are staying at the hotel. So it is better not to forget your towel to the pool, as you have to pay 20 eur then upon check out. At the breakfast they serve coffee and hot choclate, but if you wish to have a cup of tea, you have to bring it yourself. Also the room decoration is v ery simple and the bathrooms extremly small. So, I wouldnt call it a 5 star hotel.
Anyway we liked our stay there - specially our children. Dinners were very nice and the breakfast was good, too. Service was ok, but they don´t have turndown service.
It is also a very good place to discover Tuscany, as Siena, Pienza, Montepulciano and other places are not very far from the hotel.

If you have small children, you will love this place!

Our expectations were modest for a spa hotel but this is truly excellent. The overall design for this three year old establishment is flawless, the staff professional yet relaxed and the services top-class. Our family suite is stylish and functional, overlooking the beautiful pool and gardens. The facilities are extremely varied and the kids club effective at holding our kids interest.
Of specific note is the half-board value for money, as the food is of tremendous variety and high quality. The other excellent treat is the lack of english accents and absolutely no americans (as we flew here from NYC to enjoy some authentic Tuscan beauty with friends from London).
Very high quality establishment at exceptional value for money.
