“Super Surprise”
Reviewed 22 September 2011

On the way to San Gimignano we passed the Taverna and decided to give it a try for lunch. The view was breathtaking and the food - more importantly - was excellent. The menu is limited to what the cook feels like that day; there were about 2 options for each course and they were some of the best we had in Tuscany. Our waiter spoke excellent english so we didn't have much chance to ruin his language. From what I was told by an Italian family at the next table the olive oil produced at the agritourismo is quite special. Bottom line is a great Tuscan eating experience.

We unfortunately were not staying at the taverna but spent each day there having lunch and dinner, We had tried most of the restaurants in Colle val d'Elsa and found them lacking in ambience.with a very limited offering and certainly no views to match this place. Well I was going to put my photos up but they are already there.it is impossible to take a bad one of the amazing panoramic views
The owners are so keen that you enjoy what is their home they welcome children and pets and certainly make you feel very much at home.
The staff will do anything to oblige and certainly give the right impression of the place to visitors.
The pool is perfect and there is always a little breeze which was very welcome in August. We will be back and stay this time

We drove by here 3 years ago by chance while Marzia, the owner, was renovating. It was beautiful then and Marzia was so gracious, she stopped her work and gave us a tour. The location had stunning views of valleys full of sunflowers with San Gimignano in the background. We made it a point to stay here when we returned to Italy. The rooms are beautifully renovated, with hand painted walls, doors and cabinets. The gardens flourished with lavender and sage. Marzia and Martina couldn’t do enough to accommodate us. The garden patio was the ultimate place to have breakfast and their unique and wonderfully tasty dinners. Sunsets over the castle-like San Gimignano were exquisite. All this and a pool where we enjoyed the local wines sold in their little shop after a long day of touring. Hospitable and comfortable, they are minutes away from San Gimignano and 20 minutes from the beautiful, but quiet, town of Volterra. What a great find in Tuscany.

We didn't stay here but went for a meal one evening. A simple meal but probably the best of the holiday. The service was a bit erratic as I think they probably had more 'outsiders' than usual so were busier than usual but the young waitress coped well and kept her humour.
Fresh, simple food very well cooked. Wine extremely good value. The added advantage is the terrace restaurant has stunning views so you can eat and watch the sun go down over San Gimignano.

We chose this Agriturismo after finding the website online and seeing the pictures.

The location is good, though hard to find - it is within view of San Gimignano and not far from Colle de Val D'Elsa. The only negative about the location is that it is on a dog-leg type curve on a fairly busy road, so surrounded on both sides. The noise is not too bad, but I feel that this isn't obvious from the pics on the website.

The outside area and pool are fabulous. This is a lavender farm and the views from the gardens are extraordinary.

The B&B rooms are located in a separate building to the main house (which we liked). The room was lovely, not huge, but the décor was beautiful and we had our own entrance which was great.

The restaurant is terrific, we were slightly apprehensive about it as we thought we'd be the only diners, but we were wrong! The food was superb and the chef even came out after every course to give us recipes and have a chat. The house wine (that's made on another Agriturismo owned the family) is lovely, and we bought a bottle in the shop when we were leaving. I would definitely recommend eating here if you stay.

The breakfast was just ok, a good selection of (shop bought) cakes, some meat & cheese etc. It was unattended so you serve yourself which suited us fine. The only issue that we had was that none of the food was covered and there were a fair few flies buzzing about the food, we ate late both mornings (10am) and breakfast is available from 7am.

The other small point I would make is that the Proprietor (Martha) was no-where to be seen for the whole time, if we wanted to speak to her, we had to go into the shop and wait for her. On a few occasions, we had Qs that we just couldn't ask because no-one was around.

Overall, this is a nice Agriturismo. I don't think we'd go back as there are so many and we'd like to try a different one, but it was a good experience.
