Palazzo San Lorenzo Hotel & Spa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 May 2013

Palazzo San Lorenzo was the only "real" hotel that we stayed in during our trip through Toscany. We had been staying in B&Bs and Agriturismos before. That said, this was a nice switch to an absolutely professionally managed and pristine hotel. Our room was quite nice and stylish, as was the entire palazzo. The location is good - outside the Centro Istorico, so you can easily find it by car and yet it's close enough to the center that you can walk everywhere. However, the hotel could be situated in every town or city of the world. Coming from very charming little B&Bs, we found it a bit too sleek. But since that's what you book, it is a very nice place to stay.

Our stay at Palazzo San Lorenzo was wonderful. The rooms had clearly been remodeled recently and were clean and in great shape. They were fairly large and the bathrooms were nice. The staff was great and very helpful. There is parking down the road a bit but there are 15 minute only spots for you to unload your luggage so there is no problem. The old town of Colle Val d'Elsa is so charming but there are some funky narrow one way streets so don't just drive anywhere. We will definitely be back and will definitely stay there. The only drawback is the room comes with a shower or tub. We got a shower but missed having a tub. The spa has a hot tub but it's a bit pricey to use and it closes at 8. I did have a massage at the spa and it was nice. Also, this was one of the less expensive hotels we stayed in but definitely the nciest of the trip. We used this as a home base to drive all over tuscany and even took a train from a neighboring town (poggiobonsi) to Florence for a day trip. It was about a 1 hour train ride but much much nicer than staying in Florence which can be very noisy and expensive.

We had a four day stay here early in the season. We had room 205 which was a spacious, modern, deluxe room on the second floor with the most amazing view of the old city. Great bed and a whirlpool/massage bathtub. The shower was hard to operate (but the fancy kind with a whole panel on the wall spraying water). It was (very successfully) converted from a hospital three years ago so everything is new and fresh. We missed an iron, more hangers for a longer stay and better WiFi, but we had a great stay and will definitely be back. The staff was very helpful (especially Elena), both with our inquiries before arriving and during our stay. Breakfast buffet was good except on the third day where, for some reason, the waiter wasn't attentive and the fruits weren't fresh. Below the hotel is a great and very cool spa with steam bath, sauna, relaxation room, pool with various massage jets, etc. it was 20€ but worth it. It is a charming little town and a great base for touring the region. In particular I will mention, the wine yard Fattoria di Fugnano in San Gimignano, the amazing CRC crystal glass outlet, Montalcino, Montepulciano and Siena, but first and foremost the Orcia wine road which, without comparison is the most beautiful drive I have even taken. Go here, go here, go here :-D

This is an old hospital that has been converted into a modern hotel. Nicely appointed rooms, friendly and knowledgeable staff, great breakfast spread = would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to other travelers looking for a nice hotel in Toscana.

The town itself is small, but makes for a nice base, or a lovely overnight stay.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms a step up from basic - ours had a view of the rolling Tuscan countryside.

Good central location in val d' Elsa, convenient to other towns. Support staff friendly and helpful both in bookings and advice on good places to eat. Hotel restaurant simple, good, reasonably priced. Spa good. Good package of amenties for having brought in a group to celebrate a birthday. Would certainly return.

We stayed for just one night but would have been happy to linger for a few days. Our brief visit did not allow time to try the inviting spa or to see much of the town. Our large room was well equipped, with a luxurious bath. The buffet breakfast was outstanding in variety and quality of food.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights. The town is small, charming, with nice and goods restaurants in a distance walking. Also a convenient base to visit Tuscan towns.
The hotel is very nice, modern, clean and comfortable. We had a standard room and it was large.
Breakfast buffet was good. Free parking very close. Friendly staff.
We had a great time staying in Palazzo San Lorenzo.
