“Great Central Location”
Reviewed 8 June 2012

We stayed for 4 nights at this hotel after arriving by train from Pisa Airport, to Poggibonsi. We had expected to take a taxi from Poggibonsi station but as it was a Sunday there weren't any, however there is a frequent Bus service to Colle (Siena Bus), which stops directly outside the station.

The hotel is quite close to the main Bus stop in Colle, less than 3 minutes walk, just off the main Piazza in the centre of town. It is a modern Hotel with good facilities. Our room was on the small side, but we did only book a standard room, and it was clean. Everything worked.

The Breakfast each day was very good with a good selection of cold items, local ham & cheese, fruit, cakes etc. including a daily Creme Caramel, which I've never seen before at Breakfast. Ask the waiter if you need a Cappacino or Expresso, otherwise it's coffee from the flask.

The hotel staff very friendly, spoke good English, and gave some good advice. They can arrange various tours for you, but we always prefer to do our own thing.

There is a lift from the Lower Town (newish part) to the Upper Town (the really old bit), which is only 5 minutes walk from the Hotel.

Tip: You can get your Bus Tickets from the Tabbachi/Newsagent close to the Bus Stop, with the exception of Volterra, where you have to purchase tickets directly from the driver. There is a huge digital display by the main Bus stop displaying all the departing buses in the next hour or so. There are hourly services to Siena and San Gimignano, and a 2 hourly service to Florence, plus a host of smaller towns and villages throughout the day..

Room Tip: If you only intend to use the room overnight then a standard room should be ok. However, if you als...

Of the 7 hotels we stayed at during our trip to Italy, this was the ony one where we were actually showed to our room personally which I felt was a lovely touch. The hotel is a super old building but the rooms do lack a bit of character and are a little bit on the dated side. The bathroom, however, was fantastic with a great shower and very warm.

Parking is pretty easy outside the hotel and the room was very quiet, eventhough looking directly onto the street behind the hotel. Admittedly it was April so windows were closed so can´t comment on what it would be like on busy summer´s evening. One little negative is that there is no WiFi reception in the rooms, only in reception, which was a bit disappointing as we had this everywhere else we stayed. But this wasn´t something that was going to spoil our stay.

Breakfast was super - a cold buffet with lots of choice to set you up for the day.

The village itself is divided into the old and newer parts of town and the hotel is in the newer part. The old part of town up the hill is a must-see and where we found a super place to have dinner. This a great place to base yourself if wanting to visit Tuscany or, as in our case, as a stopover between Florence and Rome.

We spent one night here at the start of a self guided walking tour of Tuscany. Unfortunately our tour paperwork had not been sent in time and the company had arranged to send it to our next hotel. We would have been unable to start our tour without the assistance of the very helpful manager and the staff member who kindly printed an emailed copy of our route notes and map.

Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with wonderful views of the old town, which we enjoyed exploring for the afternoon.

We had an enjoyable dinner in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was good and the manager went out of his way to make sure we wanted for nothing.

Overall a very good experience.

Less expensive than hotels in Siena, and great alternative. Staff is soo friendly. The rooms are pretty basic but clean. Used the hotel location as a base for traveling around wine country and touring different wineries. Awesome location. Hotel parking is relatively inexpensive compared to other hotels and places. Not a luxury hotel by any means but basic clean and friendly which is worth something!

We spent one night in this hotel on our way to Montalcino. It is very centrally located and while not fancy it was clean and our room overlooked the "old town" above. The furnishings are very basic and the bathroom modest. But for a one night stay it suited our needs. Included in our cost was a fairly decent breakfast. We were able to explore the old town, which was a little jewel of a medieval village. Not overrun with tourists or tourist shops. I would recommend this hotel for a short stay and good value for the cost. Also, the staff was helpful and spoke good English.

We accidently booked ourselves at this hotel, when we meant to book in Siena. Upon arrival we realized our mistake and weren't going to cancel our reservation, except they welcome we received was quite nice. We were travelling with a baby, and they had a cot ready and offered us a larger room than we had booked to accomodate the cot. So in the end we stayed there, and quite enjoyed visiting the small town. The town is easy to see in a half day, but is a quiet get a way and a relaxing place to be. The hotel staff made us an excellent restaurant recommendation and it was the best meal we had in Italy over an entire week. The hotel itself is somewhat old, and had an old feel to it, but is clean and the large windows in the room let in alot of light, which was pleasant. Breakfast is included and was fine. While this is far from a luxury hotel, it will certainly serve it's purpose to discover the Tuscan area.

The hotel is located at the center of town wich is at the center of toscany, close to all the import sites of toscany. The service was beyond excepted, the rooms were very clean and the buffet breakfast was very rich.
We recommend the hotel to all who wants to stay at toscany.
