“LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!”

My sister and her husband and my husband and I rented this beautiful apartment for a week while touring the Tuscany area. While in Italy we rented 4 wonderful apartments, but this was by far our favorite!! Colle di Val d’Elsa is so charming with its medieval walls housing apartments, restaurants and shops. We loved the apartment and location. It was perfect for touring the area and parking was very close.
Antonella greeted us at the front door (she lives in the same building) and even though she did not speak English, she did not have any problems communicating with us. She provided us with a lovely box of pastries and dessert wine. The rooms had ceiling fans and were very comfortable but she came over with a couple of floor fans to make sure we were happy.
Everything about the apartment was well done, it has been recently remodeled and quality materials and craftsmanship were apparent. The apartment had absolutely everything you needed. The bedrooms were large, the beds extremely comfortable. In fact, we slept until 9:00 am several mornings. All of the windows have solid shutters and I think that is why we were able to sleep for so long. The bathrooms were also very large and nice. There was a very small deck but it had a lovely view.
Just 15 feet from the front door of the apartment there is an ATM machine, across the street is a bakery, a number of restaurants and shops were within 5 minutes or less. In fact, 3 our favorite dinners were in Colle di Val d-Elsa. Porta Nova is a new restaurant (had only been open two weeks when we ate there). It sits atop the walled fortress towers and has the most amazing view! The food was excellent. They have a sister location Ristorante Dietro le Quinte just down the street and the food was excellent as well.

We spent a week here while touring Italy. It is a very well equipped, modern, roomy, clean apartment located in a charming town well located for visiting Tuscany. There are excellent restaurants and bars within easy walking distance so you can have a bottle of wine with dinner and avoid driving. We will certainly stay again at Dietro le Mura the next time we return to Tuscany.

“Great Getaway”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Antonella and George could not have been more welcoming to their wonderful two bedroomed apartment in Colle di Val d'Elsa. Perfectly positioned in the middle of the medievil walled town, surrounded by fantastic restaurants. With all the delights of Tiscany within easy driving distance, Dietro Le Mura was a great place to stay. Its easy to see why Dietro Le Mura has such a high rating.

“Bellissimo”
Reviewed 8 August 2014 for a stay in April 2014

My husband and I stayed at this beautifully renovated rental property for four nights in late April 2014. The property is impeccably clean, extremely well equipped, and offers magnificent views of the surrounding countryside and old town walls.

The charming owners, Antonella and her husband, could not have been more helpful or accommodating. When we arrived, wine, fruit and small pastries awaited us! Throughout our stay, they were always there to provide us with any assistance we needed, including help transporting our luggage to and from the apartment.

The old walled town of Colle di Val D'Elsa is authentically charming and as yet undiscovered by the hordes of tourists who descend on the better known Tuscan hill towns. We can only hope it stays that way. The town is ideally situated for day trips to San Gimignano, Volterra and the exquisitely beautiful surrounding Chianti countryside.

During three of our four evenings in Colle di Val E'Elsa, we ate at a spectacular local restaurant called Officina Della Cucina. The food was superb and the value tremendous. We recommend making reservations because the place is extremely popular and without them you are unlikely to get a table.

If you are driving to this property, we also recommend getting its GPS coordinates in advance, because the property is in the older, higher part of town and getting there can be tricky.

In sum, we had a fantastic stay at Dietro Le Mura and cannot recommend it highly enough. Bravo, Antonella! Grazie mille.

“Very nice”
Reviewed 30 December 2013 for a stay in June 2013

We enjoyed our weeklong stay in Dietro le mura the first week of June. It was very clean and convenient to local bakery and small grocery. There were several restaurants nearby and the parking was easy and free, just watch out for the day they mow or you could get a ticket! The immediate view from the balcony was of the parking lot, but there were nicer views further away. It was well-equipped, with a well stocked kitchen and had plenty of dishes. Antonella was very helpful, although she spoke little English. The location was perfect in terms of touring the region. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

“What can one say - beautiful!”

My husband and I rented this wonderful 2 bedroom apartment for 7 nights and it was our little piece of heaven. Colle di Val D’Elsa is a beautiful village split into upper and lower sections and our apartment was in a restored building in the upper part. The apartment had a little balcony with table and chairs and it overlooked the valley and looked out to the convent, San Francesco. There are two large double bedrooms each with their own toilet/shower/bidet and in the centre was the lounge/dining kitchen. The kitchen had gas jets, microwave oven, fridge and freezer and is fully equipped for preparing meals. There was also a large dining table. The apartment had a washing machine, TV and wifi. The apartment has been so well designed and thought out and is impeccable.

Antonella and Giorgio are wonderful hosts and on our arrival we were presented with a big bowl of fresh fruit, bottled water and wine. If we needed anything, we only had to ask and it was delivered with a big smile.

Parking was in the safe public car park in view from the balcony and fresh food and liquid supplies are available within 50 metres – patiscerria, little supermarket, fruit and vegetable shop, wine, butcher etc. There is a bigger supermarket in the lower town and it was only a short walk with the use of a public lift to get to and from the lower town to the upper town. There are a number of restaurants close by if cooking is not you. It was good to live in a community and converse with everyone.

Colle, we suggest is a better place to stay than in Siena. It is in countryside and is close to all the bigger cities – Florence, San Gimignano etc and even Rome. Not far and a good base for touring around.

We had a very relaxed time in our little home for the week and would highly recommend this apartment if you wanted to tour the Tuscany region. Thank you Antonella and Giorgio for your kindness and for making our time in Tuscany memorable.

Management Response
3 Nov 2013

Tanti saluti

Antonella e Giorgio
