“Sunniest and snowiest ski resorts in the French Alps”
Review of La Rosiere

La Rosiere
Reviewed 20 April 2017 via mobile

The view is breathtaking, the skiing is sublime for skiers of all levels, the off-piste powder is the best I've skied in Europe, and the hospitality and authentic Savoyard flavor of this charming French alpine village that welcomes English speaking tourists makes for lasting memories that will keep you coming back for more. The prices are great value and the fact that it is connected to the Italian ski resort of La Thuile makes it a great ski destination.

We recently had our ski trip here. Have been to France many years but never to this location. Friends had stayed here before and recommended the great location.
I was not disappointed, the location is fantastic. Easy to get to and many ski runs to keep you busy. Each day we travelled across to Italy to extend the ski experience. Brilliant and such good value. Hey €7.50 for a large pizza. Can't be bad for a ski location. Great bars and restaurants at reasonable prices. We stayed with morealps. Very good chalet and easy access. Will be back next year.

There are attractive aspects to this resort but I would not recommend it for anyone other then beginners and then it is limited. The links with the Italian side are poor, linked by a small red run, which is narrow and when busy not easy. After that you have to do an 8 minute long drag lift that lots of people were falling off. The skiing on the Italian side is good if you can get there! This link is also closed in high winds. Not my favourite resort ,

It snowed for our first two days so we had loads of it. They didn't piste bash quickly, leaving everyone struggling to turn on the slopes which were soon full of large moguls as the snow was pushed into heaps. Lifts are good (mainly chairs seating 3-6 people. No queues at all even though the resort was full. Skiing over to La Thuile in Italy takes a long time so you need to set off early to get a lot of runs there. The link is two very long flat drags - not good of the weather is very cold etc. Slopes in Italy are better than in la Rosiere itself. All are wide and well groomed. You are advised to leave Italy by 3pm , and especially in poor weather, this is advisable. The long undulating blue back over takes ages and a lot of courage to go really fast in order to get up the hills. The weather can be very different in the two resorts - one day when it was good and no wind in la Rosiere , over in la Thuile the wind was vicious and bitingly cold. Always carry all equipment in case it changes!

We booked to go skiing in La Rosiere through Ski Beats and we stayed at a catered chalet called Papillion 3. The chalet was really cute! The host (Nush) and her food was excellent we ate like kings the entire time... loved it!

The Skiing was also really good, three of us were beginners and there were so many options of slopes for us. The other member of our party was an advanced skier and he also had plenty of slopes and even went over to La Thuile in Italy for the day. We had Ski lessons from ESF through a lady named Alex and she was excellent.

Was an absolutely stunning holiday would definitely go back!
