after reading the reviews we thought we would try this for ourselves. we were not disappointed either!! we took our black lab with us and were made to feel very welcome(including the dog!!)
we were greeted in the afternoon by the landlord( super bloke, nothing too much trouble) and shown to our room. yes it was basic, but clean and plenty of clean fresh towels provided.
we were allowed to take the dog into the pub in the evening where we had a lovely meal and met up with a bunch of crazy locals!! had a great night.
we then went for breakfast in the morning and again were surprised but thrilled that we could take the dog with us. breakfast was wonderful, (cooked by the landlord) and whilst everyone from our neck of the woods was suffering snow storms, we sat(wrapped up of course) in the sunshine in the garden.
i would definitely recommend the woolpack and we will return, but definitely in the warmer weather as we would like to explore the area.

well done woolpack!!

karen, jim and Beckitt the dog !!!

Was there for only 1 night during the week but was warmly welcomed and made to feel part of the family. The room was really nice and overall amazing value for money and a far more enjoyable experience that what is offerred by more expensive hotels. Had dinner and really enjoyed the ribeye steak and trimmings over few pints and a lovely glass of merlot. Breakfast was also superb and included in the very low price. So the already low room rate included parking, wifi (in the lounge area), full tea/coffee (with biscuits) facilities in the room and breakfast - unbeatable! Well done, I will be back.

Room Tip: I suspect that they are all good!

We spent last weekend at the Woolpack Country Inn in Whitley. Its was a very warm welcome and we were shown to our room. The room itself was fairly large and it had quite a large bathroom - wasn't overly keen on just a net curtain over the bathroom (large) window as we were on the ground floor and I'm pretty sure anyone passing in the courtyard to get to their rooms could see exactly what was going on in the bathroom. The water temperature varied from scorching to tepid - on the first night it was scorching, second night sadly, after a very cold day out, the water wasn't hot at all and the room was quite chilly. Word to the wise also, we had no internet signal at all and barely one bar on our phones. The room was comfortable, bed was comfortable and nicely decorated, so although we were quite chilly, it was a nice room to lounge in. Great for road access to the dales, any of the footie grounds in the vicinity (especially Huddersfield) and Wakefield (do visit the National Coal Mining Museum). I will say though that the food for breakfast and in the restaurant was absolutely superb, and worth a visit just for that.

Stayed last Saturday night for one night. Arrived late, but the welcome was nice and friendly. Room was pleasant enough and warm, but the mattress, on the bed, was very tired. You could feel the frame of the base through it. Also the toilet lid was missing, not very appealing.

Pity, cos the breakfast service and food was good.

I don't expect the Ritz for what we paid, but the bed does need attention

Stayed as a couple with our three sons in a double and a family room last Saturday night. Arrived to be met by more people behind the bar than in front of it, and were told 2 large parties were about to arrive for their Christmas do's, and if we wanted to eat dinner then we'd had to have it almost immediately. This was the only downside as we would have preferred to have waited until a little later (it was still well before 7pm)
We did eat straight away however as we didn't want to go out looking for somewhere else and the bar menu was good value & tasty. The staff were friendly and very attentive.
The B&B is behind the pub and is nicely decorated and absolutely spotless. I have read reviews saying it's on a busy road but I certainly wouldn't call it that! The beds are good and the shower pressure excellent. In the morning the breakfast was freshly cooked to order and again really nice and served with a smile. Enjoyed the whole thing and would come back without hesitation, and would recommend it to anyone!
