“Heaven on earth does exist”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014

From the minute I saw the Evening Standard article and looked up Almohalla 51 on the internet, I was hooked. From the early beginnings of thoughts and dates right until the very end of returning cars and wine selection, David and Myles are there to assist in any way they can. Put simply they exist to create the perfect time away for you from the humdrum of everyday life.
The bedrooms are beautifully appointed with lovely crisp white cotton bed linen to sink into whilst looking up at the timbered ceiling. And the living areas, almost and I say almost, want you wishing for a rainy afternoon so you can tuck your feet up underneath you and snuggle down with a good book in the cushions. Oh and maybe a glass (or bottle) of wine by your side retrieved from the Honesty fridge.
The breakfast, put simply, is scrummy. Beautifully presented using quality produce that tastes how it should do. Nothing is fussy or ostentatious which is how Almohalla 51 can be summed up really.
Elegance and simplicity combined with David and Myles.....paradise.
We will be back.

A friend and I went to stay at Almohalla 51 for 3 nights in April after seeing an article in the Evening Standard offering a link up with a local riding stables in Archidona. We are so glad we did! David and Myles are absolutely fantastic hosts;from the minute we first got in touch our emails were responded to promptly and were so helpful, and then from the moment we arrived (following perfect directions) we felt so welcome, immediately offered a glass of wine on their beautiful terrace and had some restaurant recommendations sorted for that night.
Almohalla is designed and furnished fantastically, the rooms comfortable and clean, all different and quirky, very charming. The breakfasts were incredible, cooked and served by David and Myles to order, fresh and delicious, setting us up for the days ahead. Always with a smile and suggestions for what to do that day. The honestly bar stocked with wine and soft drinks was such a nice touch -great to enjoy a glass of wine on a lazy sunny afternoon!
Archidona is a very cute typically Spanish town which we loved wandering around, and the hills behind the B and B offered fabulous views.
The local riding stables were absolutely perfect-again easy directions to get there and David and Myles had arranged it all for us so we simply turned up! And the riding was fabulous.
We went for a riding holiday, and whilst this was absolutely wonderful, the whole experience was better still - the riding just became part of what was such a lovely weekend away, all made easy and very memorable thanks to our stay with David and Myles.
Thanks both we hope to be back!

A fantastic find! David & Myles are incredible hosts and great cooks, so friendly and helpful. We were made to feel so welcome in their beautiful hotel. The bedrooms are comfortable and there are plenty of places to relax and as well as the lounges there are two terraces outside, one with a small pool. This is a gem of a place and well worth return visits. Kay

We stayed in Almoholla 51 for a couple of nights in late April, following a strong recommendation from a friend who had been there and thought it 'a bit special'. Spot on - it is small (only 5 bedrooms) but perfectly formed, with attention to detail and imaginative design two of its defining characteristics. 'Characterful' is another one, with every room given its own personality (room 3 where we slept - timber beamed ceilings with a small staircase linking the bathroom to the bedroom upstairs - is to die for). Likewise the discrete sections in the tiered garden behind the house. We spent our second afternoon there by the dipping pool on the upper tier, gazing at the views of Archidona and the sierra overlooking the town. Heavenly.

David and Myles were perfect hosts, giving us a very warm greeting, laying on 5-star breakfasts and offering good advice on what to do and where to go in the town (the valley walk they suggested is a great way to build up your appetite for lunch!). They managed the difficult feat of being largely invisible in a very small space and appearing to materialize out of nowhere when we wanted to speak with them.

Utterly charmed by the place, we wholeheartedly recommend Almoholla 51 and think it is well worth going out of one's way to stay there.

Tom

A gorgeous small hotel located in a tranquil spanish town. The owners are incredibly accommodating and were very helpful. Breakfast was gorgeous and would love to return one day! Fantastic attention to deal and cleanliness.

We stayed here in 2013 & decided to return again in April 2014 as we had such a wonderful experience the first time round.

This is a beautiful property with wonderful hosts in Myles & David.

The attention to detail in this property is remarkable -
Stylish bedrooms with timber beams, poerful showers, delicious hearty breakfasts, relaxing upper pool area & lots of space to unwind - Almohalla 51 has it all!

Myles & David are so helpful & informative without being in any way intrusive (Over breakfast I happened to mention the Semana Santa posters I had spotted around town & that evening David had left one in my room - lovely gesture!).

Myles & David were also most helpful at arranging transfers etc as we do not like driving on the continent.

Archidona is a quiet Spanish town with beautiful narrow streets & make sure you do a walk up to the Sanctuary of the Virgen de Gracia - a stunning hilltop church that overlooks the town.
The views here are amazing (see pictures on this review).

Lots of good dining options in Archidona as well - our favourite was Bar Central - beautiful Spanish food at reasonable prices, just 5 minute walk from Almohalla 51 (see our seperate Tripadvisor review of Bar Central with food pictures).

We are already planning Trip number 3!

Thank you Myles & David...

Room Tip: All beautiful!

We stumbled into Almohalla 51 while on a cross andalucia bike trip and were so pleasantly surprised by the quality of this place. What a find! Myles welcomed us into a stylish entry and restored us with beer and the best olives we had in Spain. We received excellent tips on places to see in town and further along on our trip. The place and rooms were clean and so hip and stylish. I had not expected anything this nice and everything was a pleasant surprise. I recommend this place to anyone who even thinks about going to Spain.
