“Hotel Yakunah - "A+ Accommodations, Food & Hospitality"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013

We had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Yakunah for one week in February 2013. We have visited Progreso, Mexico on a number of occasions over the past several years and enjoy the people and the relaxing pace of life in this small town. This was our first stay at the Hotel Yakunah and we were extremely happy with the accommodations - we stayed in the 2 bedroom casita, nestled in the surrounding gardens. The meals and the service were very good. We had heard from a number of people in Progreso that the Hotel Yakunah served the BEST fish in Progreso...........after a dinner of fish and chips.......we have to agree! We also had the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy a few cervezas while listening to the live performance of several professional musicians that gather each Wednesday afternoon for a jam session.

If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, away from the typical crowded "tourist destinations"........this is THE place to visit!

Room Tip: The two bedroom casita is equipped with a kitchenette and a living area that separates the bedrooms...

Everytime we would come down to breakfast they had the TV on, in the news...Fox, I'm on vacation I really don't want to be listening to the stuff I'm trying to get away from.
Besides that the Dutch lady owner was very nice, I loved her breakfasts, and the bar tender who's a local was very nice guy.
Besides that the room we got was beautiful, upstairs with a big balcony overlooking the ocean, and because we went in "off season" we were the only guests staying there, so we got to pick which room to stay.
Over all the room and the service was great, it was just coming in to the dining area after a long day of discovering Yucatan that I dreaded theTV would be on.

Room Tip: There's no fitness center or room service but the have a very nice reading room upstairs and a a...

I was traveling on business and needed a clean, quiet place to crash, it turned out to be a perfect fit.
The room and bathroom were huge and led out to a 2nd story patio overlooking the beach and ocean.
Jim is a great chef and Elky was extremely nice and waited on me like royalty. Thank you guys for a wonderful stay, I hope to return soon!

This is the place you want to be when visiting Progreso.

The hotel is clean- the food excellent- jam sessions on Wednesdays are something you do not want to miss. Breakfasts are delightful. Elke, Jim are great hosts, and make one feel right at home.

While we stayed elsewhere during Jan / Feb, we frequented the restaurant / bar as often as we could. Great food / music & dance and at reasonable prices. Seemed like a meeting place for the ex pats. It gets very busy on week ends but the owners & staff are friendly and they do their very best ... Will definitely return !

We stayed at the Yakunah 4 nights in March. Our downstairs room was lovely room, good bathroom, but overlooking a small street level parking, so we did not open the window or blinds. The hotel is actually an old mansion that has been converted, it is not very large, the owners have done a great job. There is a nice pool/garden area. The only negative comment I have is that not everyone wants to listen to Fox news or CNN all day. They have the TV on in the bar and since the hotel is small, you hear it from the pool and breakfast area, not too relaxing. The food is OK, not spectacular. It is a bit far from centro, but we like to walk and had nor problem getting around. Restaurants in Progreso are quite inexpensive compared to more touristy places in Mexico, but offering mainly Mexican dishes, nothing out of the ordinary.

Small boutique hotel (not really a B&B since breakfast isn't included) in a colonial home that the owners have fixed up very nicely. Our downstairs room was large and comfortable. Friends stayed in an upstairs room which shared a terrace where they could see the Gulf, but there's no internet connection upstairs. Great breakfasts and dinner. Garden area/pool is nice. Staff and owners are great. A little walk to the Malecon (about 4 blocks). Would stay here again if we go back.

Room Tip: Choose an upstairs room for a view, but you sacrifice wi-fi there.
