“An Excellent Example of How a Hotel Should Be”
Reviewed 3 March 2014

I am in two minds to write about this hotel.....it's wonderful but I am tempted to keep it a secret...

Good Points:
Warm welcome and very friendly service from all staff.
Delicious food (we had dinner and breakfast).
Food and drinks at very reasonable prices.
Spotlessly clean throughout.
Good sized bedrooms.
Very comfortable rooms and seating.
The hotel is well kept.
Helpful information about the local area from staff and magazines in the hall and bedrooms.
Good location - A short drive from Norwich centre or you can go to the park and ride about 10 mins drive away and get the bus into the centre (£2.40 per adult return on the bus). Blickling Hall is less than 30 minutes, Cromer less than 45 minutes and there are many other places to visit in the area.

Bad points:
I can't think of any.

I have stayed in a lot of hotels, both good and bad, and do not always find the time to write about them - however I think this hotel deserves to be recommended to other potential guests. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will definitely be returning.

My wife celebrated her birthday on Nov.3rd and we had a dinner party with friends here.
We also decided to stay overnight which meant we were able to enjoy some of the excellent wine on offer. The food is very good and the atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant is very conducive to the fine dining. It was a most pleasant evening.
Sadly we could only stay one night in our luxurious room (Four Poster bed!) Breakfast is an epic feast! The porridge is so creamy and the locally sourced bacon and sausage is the best we have had anywhere. The sausage in particular is without peer. It was a good start to my wife's birthday Sunday! We hope to be back soon.

I stayed for one night recently whilst visiting clients in the area. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was really very good with lots of locally sourced ingredients and the evening meal was also very good. I stayed in Rosemary which was clean and large with a very comfortable bed. the shower room was OK but was showing some signs of wear and tear, nothing major at all. Overall, for the price I thought Stower Grange was great value and ideal for my purposes.

We stayed for a couple of nights at Stower Grange & used it as a base to explore Norfolk.

The hotel is set in its own grounds with plenty of parking.
The rooms are very comfortable, all needs are catered for, we stayed in 'Sage' room which was up in the roof of the hotel , it was very cosy but had lots of character with exposed beams.
(My mother-in-law had a lovely big room with a four poster bed & a larger bathroom - It was called 'Basil')
The bathroom was on the small side but with ample space & a lovely big shower & plenty of towels.
You have tea & coffee facilities AND a couple of homemade biscuits each day.
The TV was small but perfectly watchable BUT it's more of a chill out & read a book hotel.
We ate at the restaurant each night & the food was lovely with plenty of choice (they try to use local suppliers & seasonal produce) - I would heartily recommend eating at the hotel if you stay.

Location-wise the hotel is about 15 minutes by car to the centre of Norwich and about one hour from Sandringham , Holkham & King's Lynn (all of which are worth a visit).

All in all a lovely place to stay with great service. I will be recommending Stower Grange to friends & family.

Room Tip: 'Basil' is a nice big room with a four poster bed , 'Sage' is a more cosy room up in...

Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst taking a short break in Norwich. Nice setting, in park-like grounds with lots of parking in a reasonably quiet in a village suburb of Norwich - taxi into centre of town was £9 each way. This place has lots of good points: friendly and helpful staff, spotlessly clean rooms, lovely old-fashioned mansion-style hotel, relaxed atmosphere but good service, and the food was excellent - we had dinner on night of arrival and it was excellent, every bit as good as the Michelin-rated restaurant in Norwich where we ate the second night. Also a good choice of wines and relaxed and cosy bar and lounge areas. The breakfasts were also lovely, huge choice and cooked to order. Lovely local bacon!
But, it also had a couple of cons: the room we had was called Tarragon and had a walk-in shower, (no bath) but the bathroom area was tiny with absolutely no shelf space or even a loo-roll holder or toothbrush holder, so toileteries had to be on the floor or balanced on top of the wc cistern! And the tv was the smallest I have seen in a hotel room for many a year! Also there was no double glazing of the big old-fashioned Georgian style windows,so as the room was at the front, overlooking the carparking area and the road beyond, it was not so very quiet as it could have been. Plus there was some internal noise from rooms around. I think from the reviews I have read there are better rooms than Tarragon. There is no lift.
But on the plus side again, there was plenty of hot water, the shower worked fine, big thick towels and plenty of wardrobe/cupboard space. All the staff we met were very pleasant and efficient, and we thought the rate was reasonable too - so I would recommend it.

The atmosphere, rooms and staff are all excellent. Our room was called Sorrel, with views onto the rear garden, and is larger than most hotel rooms we have stayed in elsewhere and was very comfortable. The staff were extremely good to us especially as my wife was ill during our stay, but I hasten to add it was nothing to do with the hotel. The food is superb and prepared and cooked just you like especially the breakfasts, I recommend their bacon the best I have ever tasted. Thoroughly recommended, we will return.

Room Tip: Do not hesitate to visit.
