This was our 8th visit to this island......we love it that much........as always the staff were fantastic. the service brilliant. we took our daughter, son in law, son and his little 4yr old daughter Eva, for a special family holiday.......needless to say all loved it and Eva was treated like royalty.....everyone knew her and would shout her name and wave to her.....spoilt by Mr Prem....ice cream every day......
The beach bungalows were fantastic and we were in 323,325 & 326 and had a beach pretty much to ourselves.....
The food was excellent and the choice superb....
Mr Donald......what a legend....the crab race is a must and the Bingo....well....quackety quack.....
Give this island a try...the diving and snorkelling is brilliant....turtles, sharks, eagle rays and lots of other little fishies to see......
As for the Spa.....Jenny will recommend what benefits you and it's a luxury not to miss.....

Room Tip: If you like quiet and the little bit of privacy, rooms 323 to 330 have a spit of sand that makes you feel you have a beach of your own!!!!

Like many others it was our 1st trip to the Maldives and we loved it. Went with friends as it was his 50th birthday treat (what a treat...). Donald we miss you.... keep up the good work. Booked with Virgin and flew with Sri Lankan Airways, would probably look at going with Thomson if we went again as a direct flight does make a big difference to the travelling time. The seaplane is a must, sea is a bit choppy so if you don't travel well, would advise the seaplane. Looking at other peoples comments you can understand when they say everything is a bit tired, we stayed in a beach bungalow (331/332) which was great, but went into water bungalow and they do need updating, I would have been very disappointed if I had paid extra to stay in one. Also you have to eat by the pool and there is NO atmosphere, the restaurant is much better. The sun beds (especially on the beach are well worn and should be replaced). Antony at the pool looks after you very well, we always went back at the end of the day for a swim in the pool and a drink or two to watch the sunset. All inclusive was different to our other holidays, no ice creams, no snacks throughout the day (unless you pay for them) even the mini bar in your room was chargeable, think that could be looked into. Entertainment, well they could do with some (that's all I'm saying). It was a wonderful experience for us all and we loved it, I would say if you haven't been to the Maldives before you must try Chaaya Reef but we are looking forward to trying another island.

Room Tip: Beach bungalows are lovely

We stayed at Chaaya Reef between 17 - 27th April '12 in room 111. All we can say was ....amazing!!! The first thing my boyfriend said on arrival was..."I think we've spoilt ourselves" and yes we have. So beautiful and so perfect and not a single complaint. I've been dreaming of coming to the maldives for 30 years and certainly was a dream come true. We really can't fault it.... the island was beautiful...even in the rain! The staff are a delight and really, really lovely people, nothing is too much trouble.

With lovely tropical trees and plants...lizards, ghekos and fruit bats everywhere you look and sand beneath your feet. The marine life is incredible (and all the entertaining crabs!!:)) ....I'd not really snorkeled before, but wow! It's like being in an amazing aquarium. Just stunning! On the first day my boyfriend was standing in the sea drinking a cup of tea (as you do).. and a shark just swam by...very funny and very surreal! The night snorkel is amazing and really worth doing for $25. A bit scary for me at first but once you get going it's fine, but the colours of the corals (like yellow daisys) are wonderful. We saw crabs, odd lobsters, octopus, lion fish, moray eels, tuna, sharks etc... and things we didn't even know what they were and ended up with some fantastic photos thanks to our brilliant guide (so sorry i can't remember his name), who took them using our camera. Can't believe how long he could hold his breath to get the best shots!

We had a standard room which was perfect (and not 'standard' at all) and just set in the trees behind the beach bungalows, so just a hop and a skip to the beach. It's cleaned and tidied twice a day and in the evening leave a beautifully displayed bed and the bathroom's just wonderful being half outside. We often got visited by the very cheeky, funny and extremely vocal little miner birds demanding attention and food.

The food is delicious and varied. We always ate more than we intended...yum. Lots of lovely hot curries and fresh fish..all far too tempting. It's really worth going all inclusive, so you don't need to worry about what you're spending. The chefs and waiters were fantastic and so friendly and helpful. With endless drink replenishments...i do think our waiter was psychic..he always knew before we did! Again we can't remember his name sadly, but he's lovely and smiley and loves his football team Liverpool. (Our only tiny problem was we couldn't read the names on their badges very easily,as it was quite small and we've got rubbish eyes!)

The bar staff were absolutely fantastic. A real pleasure and delight to chat to and spend time with. Also fresh drinks keep miraculously appearing ...brilliant! Again we didn't sadly catch all the names,(bigger badges!) but they were outstanding, particularly Dileep (i think that's right) who is a wonderful, very kind and genuine man and secretly seems to be a great sportsman! (we saw his pillow fighting and egg catching/throwing ....hilarious!) And lots of best wishes for his upcoming wedding. I'm sure he'll be very missed by everyone.

All in all this place is a treasure, breathtaking and a joy every moment. Don't think we've ever been so relaxed! I could go on and on but you really have to experience it for yourself. Words and photos don't really do it justice.

Many, many thanks,
Laurence & Kate

We enjoyed our vacation - it was our first trip to Maldives and we loved it.
The service is beyond standard, the food could be a bit more versatile - more fish if you ask me... but it was ok
there is a pool, but we never used it - you must be an idiot to swim in a pool with an ocean infront of your nose
the beach -- well, yes, there is a concrete wall, but behind the wall there is a treasure under water - the sealife is amazing. So, forget about the beautful view - it si still good though, I would always trade view for snorkeling and diving :)
Go for a night snorkeling - it's really, really cool - we swam with a white tip reef shark and a huge stingray appeared right under us - it was like a spaceship entering :))

Before my review, just a few words on why we booked this particular island.
1. It had good reviews 2. it had a swimming pool 3. it had 2 restaurants
As has already been noted in previous reviews, the rooms are excellent, the staff excellent, the food is excellent and the reef is also excellent.
On the negative side, the swimming pool water was too hot (why use black tiles for a pool situated close to the equator?), the 'second' restaurant next to the pool had to be booked in advance and we had to sign for everything in the bars even though we were fully inclusive. Even so, not too much of an issue. If you are content to sit in the sun and swim for the duration of your holiday then fine. If you want to try fishing or exploring another island then be prepared to pay a fortune as nothing is cheap or even reasonably priced. Enjoy a fresh coconut for US$5!. No transport charges here as they pick them from the trees.
Our main problem was that we were cheated on a special meal. As it was my birthday, one of the staff approached my daughter about a special surprise meal but did not mention any cost. She assumed it was complimentary and agreed. (this happened to some friends who received a complimentary anniversary meal - but on a different island). On the evening of the meal everything was perfect and the food excellent.
When we came to check out, the meal cost (US$163) was on the bill and despite explaing the situation the staff were adamant that we had to pay. Discussions went on for hours with all sorts of staff and even the holiday rep but they woiuld not move except for offering 15% discount. We were told that if we did not pay they would not let us leave the island. So we paid but at least had a promise that they would review the situation and sort something out at their next staff meeting. Needless to say this took the gloss off our holiday. To date nothing has been done and we have heard nothing. Maybe they are waiting for this review.
In conclusion, just be careful what you agree to and I'm sure you will have a great holiday.

hello Goodmorningblues..
Greetings from Chaaya Reef Ellaidhoo..
Thank you for sharing your perception and review “Beware of Moldivians bearing gifts” on Trip Advisor.. We are disheartened to know that you've not had quite a good experience here at Ellaidhoo.. With regards to your negatives, the second restaurant is exclusive for the Water bungalow residents. However, we try to make the other guests enjoy that experience as well, by accommodating them on availability basis. Further, the signing of the bills, despite being All Inclusive, is to serve as a means for accounting purposes. We once again apologize that you felt cheated about the special dinner, because of the assumption that it was complimentary. Nonetheless, we would be glad if you would consider returning to Ellaidhoo some time in the future. Cheers till then..
