I have broken this review down in to sections so that readers can read the bits that interest them. Hope this helps!! We stayed for 2 weeks in July on the all inclusive basis.

Emirates flight.

We flew from gatwick to male via dubai. The 2 flights were excellent. Fantastic food & drink. The ice entertainment on the 2 outbound 777 planes was the best we had seen!! Watching live World Cup football at 39000ft is great and helps pass the time on the flight. There was a huge choice of films, tv programmes and music to choose from. There is also 2 live cameras, 1 facing forward and 1 below which were excellent to watch especially during take off and landing!!
On return we flew the 777 again to Dubai followed by the Airbus A380 to gatwick. We loved the a380. Plenty of space. Fantastic ice entertainment system and inboard WIFI where we could surf the net all the way home!!

Seaplane transfer

After reading trip advisor reviews about how rough the 90 minute speed boat transfer could be we opted for the seaplane before we left and a fantastic decision it turned out to be!! We spoke to many other guests who took the speed boat and ALL of them upgraded to the seaplane for the return as the speed boat was such a bad experience. It broke down for 1 couple and they had to change boats taking 3 and a half hours!! My advice if you are going around this time of year would be to book the seaplane before departure as it normally works out a lot cheaper. It costs $150pp each way (USD) once in the Maldives. The seaplane was a great experience and took just over 20 minutes. Chaaya reef is normally the first of 3 or 4 stops. There was a little mix up at male where we were taken to the wrong terminal but was quickly sorted out.

Arrival at chaaya reef Ellaidhoo

After landing close to the island we were met by a friendly guest relation manager from the hotel and transferred to a small boat for a 5 minute journey to the island. We were checked in to our room very quickly and given all the information we needed along with a cold towel and cocktail. We were then taken to our water bungalow number 414.

Water Bungalow.

As we were celebrating our honeymoon we decided to upgrade to a water bungalow, another excellent decision based on trip advisor reviews. Our room was one of the furthest out facing the northwest, directly in line with the sunset!! The room was large with a queen size bed, tv, DVD player (does not play british DVDs though). We had a sofa and table with chairs. There was then an area with 2 sinks and plenty of wardrobe space, iron and ironing board, robes, slippers, life jacket, umbrellas and a torch!! There was also a free safe in the wardrobe which was excellent. There was a door leading outside where you had a shower on the left and toilet on the right, both with clear glass doors, then the open air bathtub, which was amazing taking a bath with a perfect view of the moon & stars. We had no hot water on arrival but this was fixed within a few hours of us reporting it.
Our balcony had a table and 2 chairs and perfect views out to the ocean. There were always plenty of fish and some sharks around for to watch! It was close to the sea wall but going to sleep each night to the sound of the waves crashing in to the wall was breathtaking!!
There is a mini bar but not included in the all inclusive and was very expensive.
Our room boy was excellent, keeping our room clean and tidy and leaving various designs in the bed!! As we celebrated our birthday our room boy decorated the bed with a message and rose petals that was simply amazing!! A massive thank you to the room boy!!

Wifi/laundry service

The wifi costs range from $6USD for 24 hours use over 3 days to $48 for 336 hours used over 20 days and is available in all the bars, reception and most of the rooms. Although the speeds are quite slow in public areas the speed in our room (414) was excellent, uploading 10 photos in less than a minute and plenty quick enough to FaceTime or video chat.

We took advantage of the laundry service, $35(USD) for unlimited laundry during our stay. If it was picked up by 10am it was back with us, cleaned ironed and smelling great the same evening. It's also a great feeling going home knowing there's very little washing and ironing to do and we are all packed ready for our next trip!!! A fantastic service and amazing value for money.

Malamathi restaurant

Staying in a water bungalow you get use of the smaller and more intimate malamathi restaurant which was excellent!! The chefs were simply amazing and would go out of their way to help you. We were allocated a table that you keep for your stay. If your not happy with your table they seemed more than helpful to move you to your preferred location. Our table was on the outside overlooking the pool and sea so no complaints from us!! Both me and my husband share the same birthday which we celebrated while we were here and we have never received such amazing treatment as every member of staff approached us and told us happy birthday. Then for dinner the decorated our table which was beautiful, once we finished our food they brought out a birthday cake and sung happy birthday to us and then they made me a duck with the table Linen as little present.

Breakfast

Breakfast was a good standard and excellent selection. Eggs (any kind), bacon and sausage were all cooked fresh. The buffet was tomatoes, beans, corned beef, hash brown etc. There was also a large choice of yoghurts, fruit, cereal, cheese and meats with various breads. If that's not enough there's a chef making fresh pancakes or waffles with all the syrups and sauces you can think of!!
If you miss breakfast there are sandwiches and chips served daily at the bar between 10:30am and 11:30am.

Lunch/dinner

There was always a soup, selection of hot buffet meals, meats, fish and pastas cooked to order and plenty of salad that was always mixed for you and seasoned to perfection. The chefs would cook your choices to your liking. Everything we had in 2 weeks was cooked to perfection.
The desserts were also amazing!! Lots of variety to choose from daily including a hot option and ice cream!!
My husband is a very fussy vegetarian but the chefs seen this as a challenge and would make sure they come up with not only something that he would eat but something he thoroughly enjoyed.

We would like to say a massive thank you to the 3 Chefs at the malamathi restaurant.

Bars

As we were in the water bungalows we used the nearest bar as it's also next to the malamathi restaurant. The staff here were nothing but amazing!! They would change drinks to our liking and allow us to take drinks back to our room. We visited the main bar twice, here they were keen to sell us the extras such as beach dinners and definitely not as friendly as the malmathi bar where not once did they try and sell us any extras.
The all inclusive drinks were good. The beer, lion, was great and spirits all good. The cocktails were also excellent and fun when we swapped some of the ingredients to create our own!!
A special mention to the fantastic bar staff, Manjula in particular was the most friendly, genuine, caring person we had met in the Maldives. We found that it was being on 2 completely different islands with the differences between the attitudes of the bars we found the main bar hostile and less relaxing atmosphere as you received at the malmathi bar where it felt you were being treated as the staffs personal friends.

Pool/beach/towels

There are plenty of sun beds around the pool and beaches. The 2 pool attendants do a great job at getting everyone's beds ready and keeping the pool clean. It's heaven not getting up at 6am just to get a bed!! The infinity pool is fantastic. We would stay in the pool for hours and just look out at the sea!! Heaven!!
The small beaches are great. Parts of the sea are a bit rocky though so as other reviewers have advised worth taking sea shoes. The sea inside the wall is excellent for snorkelling but take care outside the wall, it can get very rough and the currents very strong. Hundreds of variety of fish and different sharks around the island are worth a few photos, you can hire a under water camera from the dive centre if you don't have one. We found the snorkelling inside the wall was a lot better on the small beach on the opposite side of the island to the main beach.
There are always 2 clean beach towels put in your room daily to use at the pool, beach or take on trips. If staying around the pool you are also given an extra towel for your sunbed.

Trip

There are a number of trips you can book in reception. You simply add your name to the list for the trip you require. Everything is organised for you, our only complaint would be the communication isn't great, you are not told if you are definitely on the trip and not given any detail. We turned up on the day though and everything was planned to perfection.

Island hideaway trip.

We booked this trip as it sounded perfect for our honeymoon! We arrived at reception at 8:50am and were given a mobile phone with the hotel number on in case of emergencies!! We got on the boat by 9 and left straight away. It took us an hour to get to the tiny island with the 2 palm trees seen from miles out!! There was a smaller boat awaiting us to transfer us to the island. We were dropped off with 2 cooler boxes and a hot food server. The boats all left and we were left all alone just the 2 of us on this tiny little paradise island for 6 hours or until we called to be picked up (which we didn't, thankfully no domestics!!).
We sunbathed and went snorkelling which was absolutely amazing and even better than at the hotel.

The hot lunch provided was in a metal server with a burner underneath to reheat consisted of herb potatoes, mixed veg, rice breaded chicken and chicken pieces. There was also plenty of fresh fruit, tea and coffee, 3 small bottles of coke and 3 large bottles of water.
After lunch we could continue to do as we please on this quiet uninhabited island until the boats arrived at 4pm to take us back. To finish the perfect day, on our way back to the hotel we seen wild dolphins jumping around in the sea!! A perfect end to a perfect trip!!

Entertainment

Entertainment is low key on the island. There is crab racing a couple of times a week. There is a resident dj and singer who was excellent! As the entertainment was in the main bar we didn't see much as there were a lot more Mosquitos up that end and we were always bitten much more there so tended to stay at the pool bar. The beach party was well set up with lots of little fires in the sand and great lighting. The bar was set up on the beach. The singer sang for an hour followed by the dj.
There are 2 pool tables which were good quality for a holiday hotel with good cues, rests, chalk etc. There is also a well equipped gym, tennis & badminton courts.
During the evening we would normally sit in the malmathi bar and watch the football and chat to the staff and other guests.

Weather

The weather was generally sunny intervals. We had 2 cloudy days and it generally rained once a day clearing up within half an hour.

Other

The Mosquitos are quite bad so take plenty of repellent. We seen the hotel fog about twice a week.generally we found there were a lot less Mosquitos by the malamathi bar although after the island hadn't been fogged in nearly a week they were even there but soon after fogging there was no problems. As other reviewers have said, all trips, wifi etc are charged to your room and settled on your last night. Breakfast was provided at 6am at the main restaurant before our 7 am seaplane departure.

Summary

A fantastic value for money hotel in the Maldives. A unique experience. Water bungalows worth every penny of the upgrade price. Chefs in the malamathi restaurant were simply amazing and all deserve recognition as does manjuba behind the bar.

We treated ourselves to a 2 week trip to this island in April of this year and we had an amazing time. As keen scuba divers we regularly dived on the house reef (on our own for the first time!!). I spent most of my time face down in the water snorkelling! My most memorable moment was swimming with a turtle for half an hour! The beach bungalow was fantastic, food was great and the facilities are really good. Our waiter, Heisel, was really helpful and all staff on the island were friendly. Sunsets are truly stunning.
If you are diving off the island I would advise taking a reef hook. We managed to select a couple of drift dives that had pretty strong currents - but they are not all like this.
We saw dolphins, turtles, sharks (white tip and black tip, small and large!), morays and a big white eel, lobster, lion fish and the most amazing selection of colourful fish you are ever likely to see - all on or around the island.
We have been to more expensive Maldivian Islands before and the reef on this one surpassed those. There is a wall around the island but this does not detract from the beauty.

Room Tip: I don't think you can go wrong with a beach bungalow!!

Hello Pilmac,

Warm Greetings from Chaaya Reef Ellaidhoo...

We are truly happy that you enjoyed your holiday with our beautiful island, especially the precious moment during your snorkeling with the turtles.

Thank you so much for sharing this lovely review “Wonderful Island - excellent house reef”.
Ellaidhoo is surrounded with seawall. However, behind of that wall is the outstanding amazing house-reef that cant' compare to any reef.

We are looking forward to see you again in near future. Till Then, Cheers!

Spent two weeks here beginning of June.
The staff, the food, the weather, all were fantastic.
We stayed in a water bungalow which was superb.
The restaurant for this was exceptional. The chefs were superb, especially the salad guy. Fresh sushi, fresh cooked fish and wonderful curries were the norm. The waiter for our table was very attentive and funny. A real credit. Also need to mention the pool guy who sorted out our sun beds every day and the bar staff especially the guy (sorry could not remember names) who made the best spicy nuts ever! We called him mr spicy nuts :)).
Snorkelling was very good although the sea past the wall was a bit choppy as the week went on.
We met some great people, Bev and Phil, Kat and Will and Matt and Danni. Hope to stay in contact.
Transferred by seaplane out and speed boat back. Would defiantly advise going by seaplane as the boat was a long bouncy ride. Will be transferring by seaplane both ways next time.
We hope to return next year.
Thank you for some great memories.

Our recent stay at this idyllic exclusive top notch enclave in Maldives was perfect. Our expectations were high and we are pleased to say that from the airport welcome, the island hospitality Hotel Reef Elaidhoo, Maldives exceeded these (From our arrival on 12th May to our departure on the 17th May). The island is peaceful and in an amazing location, where tranquility exists everywhere. The helpful staff is very thoughtful and courteous which adds to an impeccable service.

They delivered an overall world-class experience, since the resort is beautiful well-maintained with comfortable facilities and beautiful interior which we admired a lot in the Water Bungalow & the Beach Bungalow.

The hotel offered high quality food and beverage, which was enjoyed throughout our vacation immensely.

We will definitely come back to the Maldives and will stay nowhere else but the amazing Hotel Reef Elaidhoo, Maldives. This was a remarkable vacation. Thanks to the incredible staff we encountered and those working behind the scenes who made our vacation flawless.

I dont usually eat fish but fish served here were delicious.

Also the island is great for snorkeling. I was really amazed how beautiful the sea was there. Before we went for this holiday, we were a bit afraid of the fact there wont be nothing to do, but I was wrong, there are many things to do. Just check this resort and see for yourself.

So I highly recommend this place for holiday, esspecially if you want to relax and see only happy faces.
