We booked the Chaaya Lagoon Hakuraa Huraa for our honeymoon and can say we certainly were not dissapointed. Having been to the Maldives before we booked through Virgin as we did not want to be restricted by having only a 7 or 14 day holiday with the major tour operators. We wanted to stay for 10 days and flew with Qatar airways via Doha and were extremely happy with the experience.

Once you step off the seaplane you are really overwhelmed by the beauty of the resort. After the long jetty walk we were welcomed with a drink and the receptionists went through the do's and dont's before giving us our keys. The water bungalow was modern and finished to a high standard and also had a free safe. The bathroom had high standard fittings and the shower was lovely. The room was cleaned twice a day and we usually came back in the evening with decorated bed sheets and fresh towels. Bottled water was also in good supply as well as tea and coffee. The view from the balcony was just paradise and it was a good size.

The beach area was lovely and quiet with likeminded couples as you would expect. There were several over enthusiatic Japanese tourists with cameras and tripods which caused great amusement amongst us brits. Some sun loungers were broken and really should have been replaced.

The restaurant provided us with lots of choice whilst we were there. My wife is a vegetarian and she didn't go short on choice. I would say that some of the labelling of the food was a bit wayward (Chicken Soup was labelled up as Roast Coffee??) which does become a bit of a problem for the vegetarians. At each sitting the breads on offer were amazing and plentiful. A tip is take some rolls for feeding the fish from your balcony, you'll be amazed what fish life comes to see you!!! The salads were very good and freshly made while you wait and suprisingly at breakfast they had proper bacon which was a nice bonus. I did find however, being a meat lover, that the meat was quite tough at times which was a shame. The waiters were very attentive at all times and soon got used to your requirements and habits.

The bar area was nicely positioned in the lagoon so you got a great view during the day. At night the singers were pretty poor and repetitive singing the same boring songs quite badly but you kinda blocked it out. I do object to paying for bingo and crab racing but it was welcome relief from the singers and quite fun to be in the bar and watching. Drinks were good, the local beer was very good and the cocktails very strong!

All in all we had a really great honeymoon and found the service of the staff to be brilliant. The surroundings were breath taking and it is amazing how they can run such a good operation on such a small remote island.

***** TIP ******

We had a note through our door 2 days before departure offering us a full laundry service for all our clothes for just $15. We decided to go for it and we had about 40 items of clothing returned clean, fresh and pressed ready for us to pack. It really took the pressure off of the washing when we got back.

Room Tip: It doesn't really matter, it's so beautiful wherever you are.

If this was our first visit to the Maldives we would have probably rated it 5 star. But compared to other islands we have visited lacked a few essentials. Swimming from the water bungalows there is a distinct lack of colourfully fish just the larger type. This is due to no reefs of any size being close to the bungalows. You have to go on the trip to the house reef to see these. This trip was supposed to run twice a day but only ran in the morning. Other islands we have visited had large reefs just of the bungalows with all sorts of fish swimming around the steps to the bungalow. Food was also limited in choice unless you are willing to pay extra but saying that was of good quality. Again it is mainly aimed at the chinesa with plenty of rice noodles and pasta. We have had a lot better choice elsewhere even in less star rated propertise. One thing you can not fault is the water bungalows, service and location these are all 5 star. Entertainment in the evening was very samey with the same two singers on every night. The bingo caller is well worth making an effort though.

Room Tip: Higher number rooms have more of the sun

My husband took charge of booking the honeymoon and kept it a surprise until the day we went. I was really concerned our honeymoon would be somewhere in rainy England but couldn't have been more stunned at the sheer beauty of where we ended up.

On arrival to the Maldives we were ushered towards the sea to a floating taxi rank full of sea planes. The sea plane experience was amazing, even for my husband who is scared of flying! The view of the islands from above was breathtaking.
We were flown to the resort and we welcomed with cold flannels and cold drinks. Exactly what we needed after nearly 24 hours travelling.

The island really was paradise. The water bungalow was great, open planned with big sliding doors which opened onto the sea. The little window in the floor gave us a view of the fish living in the rocks below. It was lovely being able to step out of the room and down into the warm sea for some snorkelling. The balcony area was also perfect for catching the sun. When we were at our bungalow it really did feel like we were the only ones there in paradise. With them all being detached we could never hear sounds from other rooms and only occasionally saw groups of others snorkelling in the back garden!

In the mornings the tide was so far out we could walk for what seemed like miles with the water only up to our knees. This was great for me as I have always had a fear of being in the sea but with the clear waters I loved being abled to explore and see all the marine life around me.
The afternoons brought the tide in and the opportunity for snorkellors to really take in the beauty. There were fish of all shapes, sizes and colours. Including a few rays and sharks, but nothing that would come near enough to be scared! We wished our camera had been waterproof so we could capture it all.

The facilities were great with a wide variety of foods and drinks. There were opportunities to have meals on the beach etc however these do cost quite a bit extra. The evening entertainment was great. Gentle singing in background at the bar, hilarious bingo and really fun crab racing.
The spa was really worth going to although a little expensive but as we were on honeymoon we didn't mind!

I would suggest packing light. There are fresh beach towels provided every other day. There is toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, shower gel etc. All you need is a few clothes and some high factor sun lotion!
Also money is not needed unless for tips here and there. Anything you buy on the island is charged to the room and can be paid with a card at the end so no need to go to the post office for your dollars before travelling! Just be careful though as every price quoted is subject to 16% tax and service charge on top.

It really was a fantastic honeymoon, everything I had dreamed it would be. The staff were all wonderful and we were gutted to have to leave.

We wanted to have a really relaxing holiday, so i thought let's go to an island in the midddle of nowhere - Chaaya Lagoon Hakuraa Huraa is a lovely place to come great food, excellent service and hospitality of the staff. Make sure that you take an underwater camera for the marine life and go snorkelling your love it!!!! we didn't know what to expect and throughly enjoyed. The water bungalows are lovely and have all the amenties. To top it all off my wife chose to have our clothes washed and ironed before we came back she was over the moon.
I could go back tomorrow if I didn't have to work

If you like football the waiters, house staff are always welcoming for the guests to play, great fun if your sporty!!! I would not recommend this for families as there is no swimming pool and it doesn't have alot of activities for children

Room Tip: Choose a water bungalow if you can as you get a glass floor so you can see the fish swimming underneath you
