Filitheyo Island Resort

After reading all reviews an after months of detailed reasearch, we decided for Filitheyo. Bingo! Barefoot for entire stay, walking on powderlike sand, swiming among thousands of colorfull fishes felt unreal. Full privacy due to almost invisible, but always there when needed incredibly professional stuff. Main restaurant food fully natural, with permanent offer of local dishes plus daily changed theme nights like italian, greek, mexican...Sunset bar restaurant has a kitchen that can compare to Michelin recomended restaurants. Lobster dinner on the beach was the ultimate pleasure. Millions of stars, shining over indian ocean waves, gently hitting the beach....food above expectation, wine list to satisfy all true wine lovers. Above all, the prices of everything were much lower than we've prepared ourselves when researching and planning our Maldives trip. We were in a superior bungalow. Rooms a bit old, but still inline with natural look of entire island. Reef is close, and full of all possible fishes. We had pleasure to see almost every single spices, including small shark, small baracuda and on our last day, we swam with a turtle. I sincerely recommend this island to all true, unspoilt nature lovers, not looking for a luxury of artifical resorts, but still people who like to endulge themselves with good food and wine, while being in unspoilt nature, having both active vacation, both enyoing silence and lying on the beach . What magic combination it is! The only objection is not to the hotel, but to few tourists who did no research, and came there with kids. The current along the island is very strong and too dangerous for kids (except for kids accompanied by diving instructors or experienced diver/snorkelers parents). We will for sure try to use the opportunity to go there once more, before the renovation brings new looks and higher prices.

Room Tip: Superior villas: For wild and more intimate ambient choose rooms above 90, for wider beach, more con...

After a hectic tour of Sri Lanka this was a lovely finale .This is a mid price and therefore middle quality resort which gave good value and better than average food and service. The water sports were above average attested by the number of people on return visits, some for five &six times. The all inclusive package was good value. All the wines, spirits & mixers were named brands and we enjoyed both the included excursions to a neighbouring island to see Maldivian life and night fishing. If you want cocktails on your sunbed you probably need to go elsewhere. The semi detached bungalows were fine & had an outdoor shower. You learn to keep the door to the bathroom closed so that the air conditioning can work well to keep your room cool. The mosquito nets were good quality & "fogging" took place night and morning but you will still need industrial quantities of Deet.Mosquito spray and high factor sun cream. We enjoyed the meals in the main restaurant which provided good choices at each meal. The sorbets and icecreams were different each time and delicious.Overall we loved our four days and felt we received great value for money.

Room Tip: Best are probably 90s but any between70&100 would be fine.Water bungalows didn't seem to hav...

We stayed at the Filitheyo Island Resort in January 2013 for a week after touring India for 10 days, and have to say it was a fantastic place to stay. The rooms was great. We stayed in a semi detached room, which I have to say I think are better than staying in a water bungalow. We went for the half board option which we think was better value than doing the all inclusive option, even though we ate & drank alcohol at lunchtime daily. The choice of food in the evening was excellent and there was different choices daily. The staff was great at all times throughout our stay. I would recommend Filitheyo as a place to stay and it is definately a place I would return to in the future. Thank you for a very enjoyable & memorable holiday.

We went to this island having been missold an all inclusive package by Thomsons. On the all inclusive package we were not allowed to take the drinks away from the bar, not even to our beach bed - which was the other side of the island from the bar, so each time we needed a drink we had to walk to the bar, drink it and then walk back again, we were not allowed bottles of water unless we paid for them. We were not allowed two drinks at a time, so could not have a cocktail unless we paid for it as it had more than one component in it. When we went to discuss this with the manager he spoke of "all inclusive" packages with great derision and almost made fun of us saying that we were in the minority on the island as people don't do all inclusive on his island, at best he was extremely arrogant and rude.
First day into the holiday I was struck down with diarrhoea and spent the next three days in bed being visited by the doctor, the manager did not visit, nor any of the reps, the phone did not work in the room so we were unable to summon help without walking over the island to find the doctor. he siad it was a regular occurrence to have diarrhoea on the island, very worrying information.
We saw rats, plenty of cats and were bitten constantly by sand flies. We were unfortunate enough to have a room with no beach and a rocky sea.
We have been to other Maldivian islands and this is the worst.
Thomsons were not interested in our complaint re the all inclusive package not being what it is advertised at, and we note that it is still advertised as it was when we went. Shame on them for not listening to the customer, I will never book another holiday with them or any of their subsidiary companies again.
The bar staff were very good and did actually give us bottles of water to take back to the room but we were asked to hide them in our beach bag. Good on them, they could see how unfair and unjust it all was.

Room Tip: Avoid at all costs

This was our third trip - parents and a now 18 year old son.. We went all inclusive since all of us would be indulging in alcohol and it certainly was worth it. We had one deluxe room and one superior room on the other side of the island. Worked fine. The teenagers room wasn't perfect - the pipe over the shower leaked but it was fine for him. Our villa was lovely and our room boy excellent - our son's was young and friendly but occasionally absent minded - like no sheet on the bed!!! We had a light duvet - not sure if that is standard or had been logged on our last two visits we hauled blankets out of the cupboard - we like a very cold room with more than just a sheet! It was always immaculately clean with a plentiful supply of good towels - we always had lots of beach towels and being in a deluxe had our own designated chairs - had a slight problem getting an extra one for our son - got a chair but no cushion so nicked one from an empty room. It disappeared so we took the one from our sons room - yes we had to carry it but is that really a problem - this is not a 5* plush resort - it is a family place!
The deluxe rooms are certainly far better maintained - we walked round the island (about 30 mins) every day and some thatch on the superior villas is very thin, And as a previous reviewer has said the villas numbered over 100 don't have much beach.

Food is good - my husband loves curry so was a happy boy - I am allergic to it but most nights was fine - sashimi and sushi every night was great for my son and I, there is always a plain grill and pasta. The roast meat is very tough usually but sauces nice! Lots of salad and all those bits like crispy bacon to top it with! Ice cream best I have ever tasted and very good puds - and I am not a pudding person. Freshly cooked indian breads - but not every night as in previous years which was very sad for son and me!

Best part of the island is the snorkelling - we have never seen turtles before but our first snorkel saw our son literally swimming next to one that had surfaced. We saw them virtually every day and swam with one within touching distance (and no I didn't touch it) below us - it was feeding off the rocks and we were riveted for about 10 minutes hovering no more than 18 inches above it. Son dived and said it was excellent - although you have to have 40 dives logged to go on one of the boats which is a lot. The other boat is fine and has instructors supervising - impressive German control and very safe.. Son wants to return but would like to get his 40 dives first . Dive shop offers 10% off for returners and also for those going to their other resorts.

All in all a great trip - the weather was iffy - warm but greyer than we were hoping for coming from the frozen North of Scotland - more sun would have been nice. Only one really bad afternoon - sods law that was the day we went on a snorkelling trip! We met up with a family who had been there with us 4 years ago so it was good fun - kids 17/18 so they could have fun and adults could retire!!!

Already looking ahead to our next visit - maybe try the easter uni hols rather than Christmas as I think the weather is more reliable - but some serious refurb is needed on some of the villas

Finally - the sunset bar ... what a place - we arrived in pouring rain about 5pm. Got into our room - knackered after going Aberdeen - London - Doha - Male - Sea Plane. Straight down to the sunset bar - recognised like long lost friends. These guys are such fun and treated us brilliantly for our 10 days - and remembered our son - despite the fact he was an huge amount bigger and drinking beer rather than fanta orange - the most lurid drink you have ever seen - but he still managed to down a lot of those too - not recommended for littlies!

All in all a great holiday - certainly wouldn't recommend as a romantic holiday destination during school/uni holidays - it is an affordable resort and there were a fair amount of kids (so the pool can be noisy)- also late teens but as they keep different hours no problem. Having had almost endless rain/sleet/ snow (and lots of it) since we returned just wish I was still there!!!

Room Tip: Deluxe villas worth the extra. Personally have no interest in a water villa - like to sit on the be...

It was our second visit to Maldives. We have chosen Filitheyo taking under consideration our one year old Daughter. We were looking for slightly bigger island so she will not get bored to easily. We were not disappointed. It’s truly rustic very green Island.

We stayed in Deluxe Bungalow, it was perfect, ideal size for three of us, we enjoyed bigger bathroom, with bath tub and outdoor shower. I think it was very clean, bit dated and will need some serious upgrade works soon, but nothing bothered us.

Water bungalows seed ok, but even more dated and I wasn’t impressed by access to the water. It’s like a hole in a deck with steep steps down.

Room boy/boys were very helpful and friendly, they cater to all our need (for example they exchanged water in can by the steps very day). Our Daughter was spending ages just standing by the can and drowning her sand toys.

We found food exceptional, huge variety and choice. Egg and omelette station, cereals, fresh fruits and juices every morning. We were on half board and on several occasions we had lunches in Sunset Bar. And it was a treat, not only presentation of food, but waiter service was amazing.
Half board was sufficient for us, as we are not heavy drinkers. Happy hour was perfect for cocktails and cost of drinks was acceptable.

Dinners were very good too, always reef fish, pasta station, various types of potatoes, steamed veggies, salad station, huge choice of bread, bakery, nan breads etc. Cakes and ice-creams were a must!!!

My Husband really enjoyed himself snorkelling, there was loads of fishes swimming around and visable from jetty. Few mantas, turtles, baby sharks and he spotted white tip shark too.

I won’t fully agree with previous reviewer stating that Island isn’t kids friendly, I seen worse. They have travel beds and sheets, there is shallow access to pool, in both restaurants they provide high chairs. They might not have a playground, but who needs it in Maldives. Few beach toys, swimming pool and children are set.

Service was very friendly and attentive, our baby girls was spoiled rotten by all the attention. Only down side was a girl on the reception (her name was something like Lena), she sometimes ate in restaurant with us. Her grumpy face, lack of professionalism was a killer. I have no idea who put people like this in front line of customer service. Attitude was beaming from her.
Whenever you pass reception and guys where there, you felt like you are welcome and any matter was solved with smile on their faces. And this depressive young lady was such a bummer. Not to mention that she wasn’t helpful at all. It was like she didn’t even both to try.

Overall we had a wonderful 12 days. Next time we might go back to one of those tiny islands, were you can walk around in no time.
But I can definitely advice Filitheyo if you are looking for amazing snorkelling and rustic Maldivian experience

Room Tip: Only Deluxe Bungalows!!

Filitheyo was the 12th island we had visited in the Maldives, as you can guess from the amount of times we have been its our favourite place and couldn't imagine being disapointed anywhere in the Maldives, and for this reason I have never read any reviews as I prefer to make up my own mind, but now I so wish I had done. We visited Filitheyo for 10 nights in January 13. We booked a superior villa as no deluxe villas available. We thought we may be able upgrade once we got there but still none available. Very disapointed with the location we were given and asked to to moved as soon as we arrived. There is a very large nuber of villas with no beach whatsoever just rocks, coral and fallen trees. Everbody who visits the Maldives is aware of the moving beaches and erosion and as we all know this is only getting worse. When people are paying a lot of money for there holiday you expect the perfect pictures that are advertised; a beautiful beach outside your own perfect little villa!!. Some islands actually close off the effected villas but not Filitheyo. They was reluctant to move us to a better location but I insisted and we did end up on a lovely part of the island. The rooms are very old looking worn and in need of updating. The towels are very poor, thin, hard and some had holes and rips in them ,they are also not very generous with the amount of towels they give to you. The beach towels were even worse, tiny and really old and the sun loungers very poor condition broken ones discarded in places. The padded cushions on the sun loungers were full of holes and very thin and worn and there was not enough sun loungers for all guests, people get up really early putting towels on loungers, this is the first time I have experienced this at the Maldives. Some of the roofs on the villas were covered with plastic sheets they were that damaged.
The food was the worst , I am vegetarian and apart from grated carrot lettuce and tomatoe the choice was limited. You cannot help yourself to some of the food on the 'buffet' it is behind glass(which was 'not clean')if you ask for fruit, say passion fruit you was given 1, several times I asked for more but felt uncomfortable as it was given reluctantly. The restruant staff were not very friendly. I spoke to one staff about not being able to help yourself to fruit and was told that the resort was in financial difficulties and things had to be limited!! The breakfast was the worst very bland, the amount flies at breakfast was ridiculus,I pointed out a large number of flies that was in the waffle mix, but the server didnt seem bothered. I spoke to the staff about it but feel it fell on deaf ears. They charge even to play pool, only $2, ive never been charched for this on any other island.
On a positive note the snorkelling is excellent and there is some areas of good beach.
The food was good in the sunset bar restruant, it was cooked to order and fresh and nicely presented and the staff much more pleasant.

Room Tip: The deluxe villas all had good beach.Villas from 80+ very poor and some no beach. Villas from20-60...
