Making Alquézar a second stop off en route from Bilbao ferry to our gite in SW France was a highlight. Genuinely warm, welcomingly friendly and helpful staff - we enjoyed enthusiastic conversations on mutual interests with Alfonso - ensured we were well advised as to what to do and see in the village. A must is to allow plenty of time (at the right time of the day as it gets so hot there) to walk the paths in the area, notwithstanding steep and rocky paths with limited signage, so as to peacefully enjoy the stunning views back across to the beautiful architecture of the village and to the mountains, gorge and rock-faces of the area. After dropping our luggage right outside the hotel to check in, we had to park some way away, but enjoyed the hotel where we had indulged by having a room with a view. We would liked to have stayed longer than a night, but would certainly detour to return here again.

Room Tip: While the hotel is relatively expensive, it is a treat to have a room with a view, and is well worth...

We were looking for an adventure holiday following on from a lazy week on the beach and found it in the form of Alquezar in Huesca. The location is stunning and the Hotel Santa Maria was able to fully maximise the stunning views, a room with a view is a must. The Santa Maria offers excellent value for money with modern and clean rooms. It's location, the main entry into town, is right next to the main restaurants, Marmite being the best in my opinion. Alfonso, the owner, was a wonderful and charismatic host, and knows the area better than anyone as he grew up in the town and started the first Canyoning business. Alfonso was supported by Marie Carmen and Hugo, both were friendly and enthusiastic and made our stay very special. My wife and little boy left Alquezar beaming and a lot of this is down to Alfonso and his team at the Hotel Santa Maria - thank you Alfonso

Alquezar is a break taking village with wonderful architecture and mountain views and a spectacular gorge. Hotel Santa Maria is a nice basic hotel. We didn't have a balcony room, but I'm sure the views would have been great. The hotel was clean and friendly and the staff helpful. The only down side was the walls between rooms are not soundproofed enough, and the sound of the air conditioning system woke me up several times in the night.

Alquézar is the most stunning area imaginable. Set in the province of Huesca in the Sierra de Guara National Park, it provides scenery of extreme beauty. The limestone rich geology carved by eons of water and in this case, the River Vero provide a stunning backdrop for the 11th century Colegiata de Alquézar of Santa Maria, perched on top of the hill. The Hotel Santa Maria de Alquezar offers excellent rooms with views over the old township and the old church and castle.

We were greeted by friendly English speaking staff who gave us plenty of directions and advice of what to do. We were able to park the car outside while we checked in, but had to move it to a car park above the hotel, about 3 minutes walk away. The room on the first floor was excellent, roomy, clean and modern. The lounge, where breakfast is also served, was homey and provide a nice place to relax, enjoy a wine or read a book. The continental breakfast, included in the tariff was also very good.

There are plenty of tapas bars and restaurants in the village at which to eat and drink, and it is fun to explore the area on foot, stopping wherever you like.

We really enjoyed our two night stay in Alquézar and the Hotel Santa Maria helped make the experience more enjoyable.

Dear Jhon:

Thank you for your review.

We are proud to let you know that all the rooms have been renewed and are soundproofed.

As for the rooms, you can choose a room "with views" at the time of the booking.

We´d love you to come back to Alquezar soon.

A gem of a small hotel in a fabulous little mountain village.Modern inside, but old and quaint outside. Ask for a room at the front, with a balcony..the views are amazing. The room was smallish, but very clean.Good breakfast. Dine out in the evening at one of the small street side restaurants..there's no traffic, the food is good, and the views amazing.
Park in the residents parking area, not the more remote tourist carpark.
If you are fit enough, walk down into the gorge..great scenery. Totally recommended.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony facing the old village and the gorge.

The hotel Santa Maria was a wonderful chance discovery for my wife and myself when choosing a place to stay in the picture perfect village of Alquezar. Beautiful spacious room with views across the village and valley of the Vero river. Gracious welcome from the owners. Pleasant light breakfast with toast, typical cakes and pastries, local cheese and cured meats in an attractive dining room. Ideal location for restaurants and outdoor dining overlooking the village. Many returning guests from France and Holland, and we can understand why - highly recommendable.

We only spent one night here, but couldn't fault its location. Room was decent. As you enter village, take residents turning, so you can drop your bag straight off and then take it to the car park - much easier than trundle stuff around! Staff didn't have much English, but were pretty nice. Breakfast was in nicely furnished reception room and was fine. Hair-dryer was provided when I demonstrated what I wanted. Wifi only downstairs and we was pretty weak. I'd definitely recommend.
