Making Alquézar a second stop off en route from Bilbao ferry to our gite in SW France was a highlight. Genuinely warm, welcomingly friendly and helpful staff - we enjoyed enthusiastic conversations on mutual interests with Alfonso - ensured we were well advised as to what to do and see in the village. A must is to allow plenty of time (at the right time of the day as it gets so hot there) to walk the paths in the area, notwithstanding steep and rocky paths with limited signage, so as to peacefully enjoy the stunning views back across to the beautiful architecture of the village and to the mountains, gorge and rock-faces of the area. After dropping our luggage right outside the hotel to check in, we had to park some way away, but enjoyed the hotel where we had indulged by having a room with a view. We would liked to have stayed longer than a night, but would certainly detour to return here again.
