As others have noted, this place is perfectly located to give you the picture-postcard view across to the town and monastery. BUT - only if you get a front room with the view! Rooms themselves are very small and basic - a double bed and one side table and that's it. Fortunately you can drag the balcony chair into the room to put your case on. Bathroom was fine if smallish, and the staff are uniformly pleasant. It's no steal at the price, but this is an expensive town for accommodation, and you are paying for location and that view if you get it.

Room Tip: You need to get a front room with balcony to make the stay worth the money.

It was our second to the last stop on a 3 week trip in Europe. I told my large family that I booked a special place for us to enjoy before we ended our vacation. personally i didn't see too many pictures of Alquezar so wasn't sure what to expect other than the very good reviews I read. i splurged and got 3 rooms with a view, and I was a great hit with the family for having done so.

The hotel has a lift which was great for all our luggage, a large breakfast room, and a comfortable room (not too big though).

book early to get the room with a view otherwise you might regret it and sulk about what you missed. great sunrise shots right from your room if you are an early riser!

Room Tip: defnitely get the ones with a view! there are a few with seating on the balcony but am not sure what...

Friendliest service, stunning views, comfortable room, clean mountain air compete for high acclaims. Don't miss if you are anywhere in the vicinity. Santa Maria should be your choice and balcony room is well worth it.

Stayed here 2 nights and thought the hotel was lovely. Rooms small but the view from my room was stunning. The hotel was unbelievable clean and the staff were great.
My only problem was the breakfast. They talk it up on the website especially the home made jam etc. Well the reality was quite far from that. The jam was factory produced in little silver foil containers, very poor, the toast was terrible nearly broke a tooth is was so dry and hard. It was mainly bought in cakes, very little fruit all in all very disappointing especially given that most of us were serious walkers.
I would go back and I hope by then the breakfast has improved because the hotel is lovely and good value. Otherwise I would eat breakfast in the lovely new bakers in town on the terrace overlooking the canyon

Dear guest:

Thank you very much for your opinion.

We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Hotel Santa Maria de Alquezar.

About the breakfast, we have recently changed the jam we serve due to hygienic reasons.
As for the bread, it is sent to us every morning from the lovely new bakers you referred to, as they are many of our cakes. The selection of fruits we have depends on the season. In any case, we keep in mind your opinion and we will work to improve every service in the hotel.

Kind regards,

Cristina Domínguez

Making Alquézar a second stop off en route from Bilbao ferry to our gite in SW France was a highlight. Genuinely warm, welcomingly friendly and helpful staff - we enjoyed enthusiastic conversations on mutual interests with Alfonso - ensured we were well advised as to what to do and see in the village. A must is to allow plenty of time (at the right time of the day as it gets so hot there) to walk the paths in the area, notwithstanding steep and rocky paths with limited signage, so as to peacefully enjoy the stunning views back across to the beautiful architecture of the village and to the mountains, gorge and rock-faces of the area. After dropping our luggage right outside the hotel to check in, we had to park some way away, but enjoyed the hotel where we had indulged by having a room with a view. We would liked to have stayed longer than a night, but would certainly detour to return here again.

Room Tip: While the hotel is relatively expensive, it is a treat to have a room with a view, and is well worth...

We were looking for an adventure holiday following on from a lazy week on the beach and found it in the form of Alquezar in Huesca. The location is stunning and the Hotel Santa Maria was able to fully maximise the stunning views, a room with a view is a must. The Santa Maria offers excellent value for money with modern and clean rooms. It's location, the main entry into town, is right next to the main restaurants, Marmite being the best in my opinion. Alfonso, the owner, was a wonderful and charismatic host, and knows the area better than anyone as he grew up in the town and started the first Canyoning business. Alfonso was supported by Marie Carmen and Hugo, both were friendly and enthusiastic and made our stay very special. My wife and little boy left Alquezar beaming and a lot of this is down to Alfonso and his team at the Hotel Santa Maria - thank you Alfonso

Alquezar is a break taking village with wonderful architecture and mountain views and a spectacular gorge. Hotel Santa Maria is a nice basic hotel. We didn't have a balcony room, but I'm sure the views would have been great. The hotel was clean and friendly and the staff helpful. The only down side was the walls between rooms are not soundproofed enough, and the sound of the air conditioning system woke me up several times in the night.
