OK so we left a little later in the day than we should have, but we have a minivan, so it took us a an hour on cobblestone and dirt to make it to the parking area. This is an area you get to just before the parking area at the bottom which looks like a good parking area too, but you'll be thankful to park at the bottom and not have to walk back up. I did attempt to measure the distance with a GPS, but the canyon walls and trees impeded much of the signal so we didn't get a good measurement. If it is only 1k to the bottom from the car, it's a long 1k. From the parking area you walk slightly uphill to the crest and then down into the canyon along lots of switchbacks. We didn't see a soul that afternoon, and I carried my 3 year old son on my back on the way back up which was fun =0 and took about 30min. It was well worth the hike, and the whole trip to just under 4 hours from Tapalpa.
